I went off grid onto solar 7 years ago. Benefits are that I have sufficient reliable power without interruption. As I live in South Africa the benefits are enormous and with the spiraling cost of Eskom power the system was paid off within 4 years. Even if I have to replace the entire system the components of the system have become cheaper but less available due to increased demand for cost effective reliability and would be worthwhile. It is a really great feeling to be self sufficient when everything around you is falling apart! In my opinion solar is the way to go - less disruptive than wind generators and less maintenance.

Phantastic! It's amazing to see that a whole business can be run on solar with Victron! Just this year I 've installed Victron in my own house. Several MPPTs and three MP IIs (three phase) combined with Pylontech batteries and all connected to a Cerbo. It's all running great and is capable of island mode, just in case.

Amazing video. It was fascinating to see how it all linked up and fulfilled the factory needs. Reducing your dependence on fossil fuels is a big plus, not knowing where the artificial prices will go next. Amuses me that oil producing countries control the volume of oil pumped to maintain high prices for the users. High prices for oil provide a much more fertile development environment for green solutions. ROI 4 years! No brainer. Thanks for an excellent video.

looking at publicly available solar data for UK, it appears solar works at full output maybe 10% of the time. Unless local grid electricity is extremely high priced, I mean really high, this will just be a waste of money, unless there are government subsidies involved. For six winter months average solar will be something like 3% of the time, providing peak output equivalent. So what about the other 97% of the time, and the BIG bill for solar equipment.

I guess you missed the point that the woodyard are not connected to the grid?

Always, start with an complete overview of energy needs and alternatives, how and where all that energy is flowing: Motors and the equipment they drive account for 63% of the total energy consumed in the industrial sector. The purchase price of an efficient DC FOC Controlled motor only accounts for 0,5% of its total lifetime costs. The remaining 99% is electricity (and a small fraction for maintenance). Companies that develop and implement a motor efficiency program generally uncover a cost savings of 43%.

English. I would use the term off grid as being without a connection to take national power grid and reliant on another source like generators which was the starting point. Interesting all the same and quite simillar to a local window factory based on an old farm and run on generators that has done simillar.

They did have single phase 60amp in the beginning, but as the buisness grew, an upgrade to 3 Phase 250amp was so expensive being in the country side, it was cheaper to use red fuel. Then a few years ago law was made to only use white fuel with the extra taxes.
