Fascinating! If only that old Ping wedge was all I needed to hit 3 bunker shots to gimme range, lol. Yup, there's a reason for the nickname Joe the Pro!

I have Ping Eye 2’s (steel) with the square grooves from the 80s. Still playing that SW.

I’ve still a full set 1 iron to SW from 1984 Ping Eye 2’s I never found modern clubs to better them! You should try a full set!

I’ve still got mine 1-LW though my son uses them these days. Absolute classics. I had them second hand 3-Sw and bought new 1,2 and LW from 1888-2012 when replaced with S56 which are still in my bag now and use different Ping Wedges according to course

Im still playing my 3-pw/sw/w numbers matching set. Ive tried to replace them a few times but these are just feel better at address. The only downside to most people is the weak lofts . So I just hit 2 clubs higher usually from modern loft jacked irons.

This channel has been on fire recently. Love the old Eye wedges. I wish the modern ones were bigger and had full face grooves.

Great video! I've got an Eye 2 XG 56 degree, so not the original but it is brilliant! Amazing out of bunkers and really versatile around the greens .

Played the eye2 in the mid 80’s. Always wanted the Berillium Copper but they were $$$$$ Currently have the Glide 4.0 E-Grind in the bag. As you note, it’s great out of bunkers!

The Eye2 beCU SW has been in my bag since the mid 1980s and it plays better than any other wedge I’ve ever tried - I’m on modern TSR woods, T200 irons and Vokeys these days but the Eye2 with a ProV1X is just the loveliest feeling in golf :)

They were the glamour irons back in the day... No-one wanted their woods, but their irons - 🔥🔥🔥

Im still using all 3 Eye2 wedges. These stop on a dime still. The 50 degree wedge 1/2-full shots into the green is bliss.

Most versatile and underrated wedge made. Most can’t get past the looks but it’s a Swiss Army knife. Works in every type of lie. Absolute magic out of bunkers.

I played a replica set (2-SW) of Ping Eye 2's for 20 years. Wonderful irons. 2-iron was a 225 carry for me. The lofts were very traditional so a modern players distance 4 iron likely similar to my old 2. They are sitting in my garage now but the shafts are all rusted.

Ping Will set you up for about 20 bucks a club plus the cost of the shafts. They will refinish the clubs to make them look like new. Check their website and give them a call.

I have a full set of these 1 iron, then 3 - LW, I would never part with them Mine are the beryllium eye 2 +, which are the conforming ones, there is a “ + “ stamped in the cavity so you can tell the difference between the conforming and the non conforming I hed them sent back to Ping to have the lie & lofts checked via my club pro, who suggested that to me, a great piece of advice, and wasn't as expensive as you would think, they still feel amazing, but they play at least 1 to 1 / 2 clubs less than the newer clubs purely because of the huge difference in lofts, they are " tour lofted +2 degrees", but they are still my favourite clubs to play with, just have to club up The wedge & lob wedge are always in my bag whatever irons I'm using

That old ping is what I have in my bag lol. It’s the only club I can hit (and my 3 iron) I can hit it dead straight 100-125 yards all day

Ironically pal of mine was bemoaning how he missed his beryllium wedges, so got him a couple off of a resale site, he has his short game back, obviously confidence has a lot to do with it, but he’s stopping the ball on a dime, and getting up and down for fun

Makes me wish I'd kept my old eye2 and zing2, I think I let them go for 10-15 quid each , in perfect condition like all old pings seem to stay, my new hydropearls look battered already

Box grooves don’t make a difference off of a mat. They made a huge difference out of the rough, where you could generate comparatively higher spin. I had a set of Eye2s with box grooves.

All you have to do is put some ceramic coating or silicone spray on the face of your Eye 2 wedge & hey Presto instant hydrophobia.
