Will it be a game-changer for streaming sports on TV or will Warner Bros Discovery's (possible) lack of NBA rights sink it?

For $60, Sling has all of the sports and much more (I care about Motor Trend and little else). This would have to be a great deal to make me switch.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Venu package. As someone who loves sports, but stopped watching the cable news food fight years ago and has little interest in the basic cable channels, this could be very consumer friendly even at $50 a month (I already subscribe to both Peacock and Paramount Plus). I would prefer that the channels be fed live through the day even if they're showing other content. What I'd really like is to be able to pick out any channel and only the channels I want a la carte, paying a fixed fee for each. This was something that companies such as Turner Vision offered to satellite dish customers in the 1990s (after scrambling spoiled the fun of everything being free and in the clear). But I realize that's not happening and the Venu package would represent a pretty large chunk of the channels I'd pick out if true a la carte were available. So we'll see when more information and a price become available.

I know Spectrum experimented with an a la carte “TV Choice” plan that let you pick the channels, but from what I heard it wasn’t that great of a deal once you factored in the extra fees. I think it would take a lot of cooperation between rival companies to truly allow an a la carte channel picker and it doesn’t seem likely. But who knows? Maybe the cable companies will pull something together like that as a Hail Mary to save the linear networks?

@@ShallIStreamIt You never know. This stuff always seems to go in crazy and unexpected directions. But the content producers are charging so much more today than back then (especially for sports, news and local channels). And everybody is protecting their own territory and want to make sure if you're paying for one channel you're paying for the rest as well. Back then they were just glad to be getting anything from people who had recently been getting all the content for free. I think ESPN was a buck or so a month, but most were far less than that. The next few years are going to be really interesting in any case.

I hate hate hate the current options for watching sports! They’re all terribly overpriced. I literally just want one subscription where I can watch college football and the nfl. Is that too much to ask???

I hear you. Best deal I’ve found for college football and nfl is to prepay for 4 months of sling blue + orange with sports add on for $199 for 4 months, it includes redzone as well but sadly still need to subscribe to espn plus separately. Local channels I get OTA with an antenna. Once the 4 months are done, I’m on a sling blue plan, no addons for $40 a month. Best price for what I watch I’ve found

Last I’ve heard, Disney/WBDiscovery could face regulatory hurdles/antitrust challenges from the government. I still think the way will be cleared for them, soon.

I’m just wondering if I’ll have to sign up for this to get the sports stuff I like. I currently have Sling and ESPN+ and get everything I need.

It’s looking like there won’t be a significant price difference between this and Sling but we’ll wait and see.
