Can We Beat Sonic Adventure 2 ONLY Using Rouge?

it just so happens that youtube recommended led me here! that camera in prison lane requires a very specific way of approach which is hard to tell from that video. hard to explain over just text but how i get pushed in is with a spherical hitbox, and since objects get collision priority over the level itself, any round-ish shape hitboxes near or up against a wall in a specific way can probably allow for some slide clipping trickery. controller angle is EXTREMELY important when doing any of that stuff. i actually have significantly improved my methods since that old video. i have an m4 run as knuckles which does them, and has a controller input view as well, but rouge glides, jumps, and climbs the same and thus can do all of it too(search: prison lane m4 knuckles). the method in that video should be easier than what i did there. i'll be sure to make a rouge run, commentating over it cosmic wall is beatable as rouge. again, the runs done so far are as knuckles, but rouge can do it the same way(search: cosmic wall m4 knuckles). i'll have a rouge run ready for that at some point as well, also commentated i got a lot i'm working on right now so it could be a bit before these are ready. but they are coming

An explanation for one of the vines working whilst the others didn't in Green Forest, is that it's a distinct type of vine that operates differently to the others. In most situations like this, it's almost certainly a matter of things being coded in a character-specific way somehow as you mentioned when doing the rocket. The ones Rouge gets stuck on likely rely on something unique about Sonic's physics, or have something that is specifically looking for some data/animation only Sonic has, and so gets stuck. The vertically-dropping vine is likely coded in an entirely generic "lower character by Y, play A animation from current character's animation set (nobody in particular), raise character by Y" etc. way.

Fun fact: white jungle actually has remnants of an early layout of green forest present in it. Mostly a bunch of objects floating in a different part of the map. At some point the level was moved but a lot of stuff was left behind. Those floating platforms are probably part of that earlier layout. This is also why it is impossible to get a perfect ring bonus n this level since the rings from the old layout are still present

@@EpicDuskk Also should probably note that rings are occasionally found out of bounds because they kinda serve as markers for 0,0,0 on the level. Almost every level has one. In fact, many of these make it impossible to get a Perfect in many levels since they are effectively out of bounds or in odd places. they're kinda like Mario 64's infamous "Impossible coins". White Jungle is the odd one since it of course has the layout of an earlier version of another level in it and has a bunch of impossible rings. The gamecube version actually has more impossible rings than other versions, as several Big the Cat Cameos were removed and replaced with a single ring for some odd reason. (of course, all these cameos were brought back in the 2012 version)

Swankybox did hero story as Rouge and dark story as knuckles a few years ago. He had speedrunners help him find ways around levels when he get stuck. Can't really remember how well he did since i haven't watched the 2 videos in awhile but i think he was able to get past 1 or 2 more levels with some help.

I have no clue whatsoever if this was answered, and I have no actual coding knowledge whatsoever, but as to why Rouge jumping from the bars spawns a snowboard, I would imagine it's because City Escape probably has a 'Snowboard' flag that it checks when you enter the level, and Sonic reaching a certain section would remove that flag at a certain point. I'd almost be willing to bet that the same Snowboard spawns when she starts the level, but since she's not programmed to ride it, it's just left floating there. Then, whenever her animations reset, such as after using the bar, the Snowboard flag is checked again for whatever reason, then spawns another snowboard since Rouge never lost the Snowboard flag.

The snowboard does indeed spawn and float in place at the start. What we didnt test is if we grabbed the bar again would it spawn multiple boards or not. But because the board only spawns on city escape your theory sounds correct

The run would essentially play the exact same as the sonic one minus the bounce bracelet. My guess as to why a snowboard appears after swinging on the swinging bars is because every character was probably supposed to go boarding, either in their respective stories or during other gameplay modes, at some point in development, but it was scrapped early on. It might be that somehow, swinging on the bars with Rouge spawns a board for her because for some reason it triggers some leftover code from when she had a boarding segment.

@@EpicDuskk Sonic may be in that exact point in his trick spin at the beginning of the level when he officially spawns in after the cutscene? It's a frame of animation she's using for her dismount that is the same as his, but for Sonic's spinning bar dismount they made an identical copy of it that plays specifically only when he uses the bars in that level to dummy out the normal frame used for all other level bar spins that happens to be the one from the start of the level, but with the board not programed to spawn for other levels so it doesn't matter in normal gameplay? Totally speculation.

@@yousefslimani99 oh im not sure if something like that exists. I use the Press A to Hover code in the mod manager if I just wanna fly around the stage. Theres also a debug in the mod manager that lets you type in specific coordinates and load into the game there.
