Can we Capture a Swarm of Bees?

We were coming home from bible study when Emily noticed a swarm of bees on the fence post. We were expecting bees to arrive in the mail the next day (they didn't), so we grabbed that box in order to capture this swarm. Watch as we get them into the box.

That never gets old. Queen is usually under the thickest clump of bees. Based on behavior of the bees, I’d say you got her in the first couple handfuls. Nice swarm, nice job! Tip - always put a sheet down under the swarm. Direct the hive entrance toward the swarm; when you get the queen, they’ll all march in like soldiers in rank.

@@MillGapFarms FWIW, I had miserable luck keeping bees in Highland. Too cold in the winter; a week of sub 20 degree weather, especially with wind, takes a toll on the healthiest of hives. A three sided enclosure with power helps, as does a 75 watt ceramic incubator bulb directed at the bottom board has helped me weather the winters in the past. Maybe Russian bees would tolerate Highland better than Italians/Carniolans. Blessings to you and the family Kevin - your channel is a lifeline to me!
