REN performed this Part 2 live in front of a lot of rich powerful people at the Sky Arts Awards Show. Which was his first televised performance. Ren believes in community and the power of collective intelligence to solve our problems. If we are going to survive as a species, we are goung to have to change our priorities to love and community and ensure that all people have the basics. Food, clothing, shelter, medical care should be basic, then competition or whatever can still happen...on your deathbed, who is sitting next to you and what good have you left to the world. Think Ren has that part covered.

@jude-isaiahcochran602 if you look into the actual history of Shell Oil it was started in 1833 by a man named Marcus Samuel who sold sea shells and other things from his business. Yes it can be applied to all big business but it IS the history of Shell Oil. It's an interesting read how the company came about to where it is today.

Loved the reaction ❤️. Great observation by Julius imo in pt 2. It's the 1st time I heard someone talk about the word old in the line "old MG". It went deep and made a lot of sense to me. 👏 It's so true that it took a lot of time and conditioning to get the population to fall in line and manipulate. Derek made some great points here too. 🥰

I've always understood it in MG1 that way, that it's easier to hurt someone "faceless", someone you don't know... but when he gave him eyes, he suddenly a that's it's a person.... and maybe it's a bit of a case of "looking into a mirror, seeing what you're doing and realising you are part of the money game" 😁

MG3 is the personification of the chorus from MG1 and 2. "Those who rise through distorted lies, poisoning the veins." His father distorted the concept of hard work into greed and it poisoned Jimmy's entire thought process and when he finally turned the mirror on himself he didn't like what he saw and self deleted.

The ending of money game one i take it as we as a society are blind and he is trying to open our eyes and make us see and the ending when he soaks himself and lights the lighter is like him pointing the mirror at himself cuz like he said we are all parts of this money game i mean there are levels to this shit and to his talent and creativity and how he is able to express what he wants so good

There is an add on to the money game differant again but eluding to the subject it is Rens new song Money Ties . Money ties came out of the aftermath of the Kuj*beats debacle , it is written in conjunction with another victim of that producer . It shows a very personal and tender attitude to the greed of the world. Thanks for an interesting reaction

Afte watching this one many times, others reactions, and his other songs, this is what I've found in part 1. Ren plays the role of the narrator and the oppressor, the ones with the power and money. Ren in dark green raincoat. Rain is a double for reign . The "hostage" represents us, the people who are blind to what's going on. Ren draws eyes on him, forcing him to see. Ren then realizes (perhaps by looking in the metaphorical mirror) what's happening and burns himself in the pose of the famous monk who lit himself on fire. This is a metaphor. In the Buddhist philosophy in part, is that rebirth and destruction is part of life. The goal of Buddhism is to break free from is cycle to achieve enlightenment, something that Ren has written about in other songs. 😊That's his message. In order to fix what's broken with the money game, we might just have to tear it all down, and restart anew. He sets himself on 🔥 in pose of the monk to portray that. 😊

Well said, and I agree, a lot of people don't interpret it like that, but I do. Also, the monks name was Thich Quang Duc, a South Vietnamese Buddhist monk, who performed the act known as self immolation. It happened in 1963 in the lead up to the Vietnam War, a new puppet regime was installed by the U.S., my country, imagine that, to counter growing tensions with communist North Vietnam. The new S. Vietnamese president outlawed all religion except for Catholicism, making it the national religion. When the monks celebrated Buddhas birthday in a small town near their monastery, soldiers showed up, things went sideways and the soldiers shot and killed 6 monks and 3 civilians. 2 days later the monks, 100 Catholic nuns supporting them, and one media photographer showed up, and no one knew what was coming, (the other media notified by the monks thought it was a non story). It is said that Quang Duc got in such a deep meditative state, only taught to the most devout monks, that after his fellow monk doused him and Quang Duc lit the match, he didn't move a single muscle or make a single sound until he took his last breath and his body slumped over from part of his torso turning to ash. The lone photographer/videographer that did show up, won a Pulitzer Prize for that photo, and yes there is color video out there of the incident. The photo is said to be the first (pre internet) viral photo of sorts, reaching President Kennedy's desk in under 24hrs, and newspapers worldwide in under 48hrs. Similar to the raised fist symbolizing standing against oppression, used in the civil rights movement, the "burning monk" became an international symbol of peaceful resistance against oppression. (FYI, the U.S. was not happy with the S. Vietnamese president they installed, and the CIA eventually went in and assassinated him). The "burning monk" was also the cover of Rage Against The Machine's debut album, and they were a big influence for Ren growing up, so I also think the ending was little bit of a nod to them too. ✌💚

What a great reaction! I would love for your guest to come back daily to react to Ren!! I'm sure my fellow Renegades would agree! 🤩 There's so much Ren gives you to think about in these songs (in most his songs to be fair). Did you know Ren composed all of the music in MG3 except for the very first piano section with all the arpeggios?! The first MG is about how us as a society are mostly unaware we're playing this game. We just walk around with a hood over our heads and a noose round our necks (because we can't escape it as we have to pay mortgages, rent, loans, etc..). Ren here is trying to punish us for our crimes committed in the name of Money, but soon realises we're unaware and cannot defend ourselves. So Ren looks at himself and realises he too is to blame and should be punished especially bc he was aware. In MG2 (done during lockdown I believe hence the lyric video), Ren explains the MG itself and how it corrupts. Reminds us that we are all part of it, so blaming others won't change anything unless we look in the mirror and make those changes to ourselves first. MG3 is more personal. It's about how the corruption begins using poor Jimmy as an example. There are plenty of ways people become greedy in their lives but this was Jimmy's. His father being the catalyst, who was never satisfied with anything his bright son did and subsequently ruined his son's life. Note that Ren never mentions Jimmy in a relationship or having kids himself. But the best part for me is that Ren has subtly managed to make us sing the chorus of MG 1 &2 by creating physical rain and slightly singing that last phrase. Also remember he looked at himself in the mirror at the beginning before he removed the hood. The beginning showed we are all replaceable with a random piano player spawing and replacing Ren on the piano (and yes, that was Ren playing in a hood at the beginning). There is a brilliant BTS of this song on his @renmakesstuff showing how they managed to film it in just two shots and how there was a guy changing the guns while he was loading it. It's fantastic!

There is another part to the Money Game 'trilogy': 'The Story of Eden'... It doesn't get much attention or love, but (to me at least) it brings the whole Money Game thing together and deepens it with a really interesting historical, cultural and religio-political context. Most Americans can't handle it because it kinda puts a bible story into a real-world context and that is more-or-less taboo these days in the land of so-called 'freedom'... (yeah that's a slightly provocative angle that maybe I made up, so prove me wrong, react to it)

Ren's video Money Ties is not part of this series, but in a way it's a wonderful epilogue to this series. Ren is trying to get people to remember balance. Money for it's own sake has no real value. It's a sentiment we all know, but it's so easy to forget. What I love most about this is the slow slide, the slippery slope.. first manipulating data, then selling arms, to guns and drugs.

The guy in the hood being the President actually makes sense to me, even if that wasn't Ren's intention. Throughout the song, Ren had Pres where he wanted him and was just waiting on the moment to deliver some payback before realising that this wouild acheive nothing and turning the mirror on himself instead for being just as much a part of the money game as everybody else? Good shout.

22:11 you’re not a dumbass, it’s not your fault. Your education system doesn’t teach you about the outside world. Here’s how it works: There’s a series of islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Go East from New York about 3,500 miles and you’ll get there. They are called The British Isles and together they make up the country called Great Britain. The full name of the country is “The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland”. The full name of the country is rarely used though - it’s more commonly known as The United Kingdom (UK for short) or Great Britain (Britain for short). Its citizens are called British. The UK is a union of 4 country states (just like the US is a union of 50 member states). The four country states are: England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Northern Ireland The flag for the Union is of course the British flag 🇬🇧. So, you can be both Welsh (from Wales) and be British at the same time. Just like you can be Texan and be and be American at the same time. The most dominant country state in the UK (culturally and economically) is England. It’s where the founding fathers of the United States mostly originated from and of course where the English language came from. Brighton is a coastal city on the south coast of England.

I really liked your guys breakdown of this trilogy, I will have to respectfully push back a tad on a couple parts though..... First off cancel culture is not real, well it is in the sense that people lose their job or are pressured into silence by intimidation or threats of losing money, influence or power, but it is absolutely nothing new, nothing unique to modern times. So many people today act like "now a days things are so crazy, you can't say nothing or do nothing without getting in trouble", or "this new generation today are out of their minds, thin skinned and lazy" Guess what, people have been saying those exact same things, and people have been getting "canceled" since biblical times, when Mary n Joseph were complaining about Jesus quitting a good paying carpenter job to roam around all day with his 12 smelly friends...lol. Second, as much as I love Ren and the message he delivers in his tracks, he's by far not the only artist doing such things, today or in recent history, you're just not listening in the right places. You need to check out Marlon Craft, Tobe Nwigway, Tank and The Bangas, Brother Ali, Killer Mike, Run The Jewels, Rage Against The Machine, Nas, KRS-ONE, Public Enemy or Lauryn Hill, just to name a few off the top of my head, all of them put out lots of socially conscious music that the "powers that be" do not care for. Still appreciated your commentary and truly enjoyed your reaction, keep up the good work!! ✌💚
