Can We Cross Latvia in a Completely Straight Line? - Straight Across LATVIA Ep.1

As you may have read from the title then, yes we will try to cross Latvia in a completely straight line.
The line is around 75 kilometers long and our journey will take us over Latvian fields, forests, rivers and villages. Sit down and enjoy our first episode of straight line mission across Latvia.

Straight line missions are a form of travel in which the adventurer aims to cross an entire park, region, or country in a straight line, typically on foot. The goal of such travel is to introduce the adventurer to remote or offroad areas that are typically overlooked, but when done on scale it often requires extensive planning and preparation. Such a route necessitates leaving roads and paths and traveling directly through forests, hedges, and terrain obstacles.

The father was dense probably because the region where you hiked often sees some Lithuanian tourists. And as a pure coincedence, sometimes after their visits, some expensive machinery and equipment finds a better home in Lithuania.

Hey! Im from Latvia I planned almost the same line, but a bit on the other side of Jelgava. Some planing issues between my friends made us postpone this mission for 25 summer, but we did a shorter vesion thru Vidzeme. It was life changing experience and one of the hardest things i've done. My friend almost died next to me in the middle of nowhere, because he got bitten by the only poisonous snake in Latvija ''Odze.'' We had no signal on our phones and we where 7 km away from any civilization, deep in a big forest, so no help was possible. He drank a lot of water and then fell asleep for 1 hour and I did'nt know if he will be alright. After he slept he woke up and got better and only in the morning we found were he was bitten. Don't take this lightly, be prepared and stay safe! Can't wait for the next summer to finally do the whole country.

Oh that's awful! I'm glad your friend is okay. Yes, we have to look out for the same snake here in Estonia. It's called viper in english. That's actually one of the reason why we attempted our mission in late October because snakes are not that active anymore. Are you sure you want to try this in the summer? In our experience SLM in summer is like 5 times worse than late autumn or early spring (heat, vegetation, bugs, snakes and etc.) But nonetheless, we wish you good luck on your mission! Hopefully you'll document and share it as well 😊

latvians are actually pretty chill about it, there is private land you can't cross but thats mostly only the fenced areas generally if it has no fence you can pass through. though as a fellow latvian i can tell that the note or explaining what you're doing if asked is the way to go.

Latvian here too. This trip is very inspiring. I have never done hiking on such adventurous level, but I wish I had right people to do it with (noone in my circle enjoys adventurous lifestyle).

Huh? Is the CC auto-translation really bad? I get it in Lithuanian and in those moments it says ((Estonian language: "the phrase")) with good accuracy.

Hi , In KZbin manual closed captions Estonian phrases are also translated, so you can check them to see the translation. But you are right though, we should still add those lines on screen because not everybody watches with subtitles. Thanks a lot for you feedback! 👍
