I was a custom applicator from the late 80's to the late 90's and I gotta tell ya... That ol' Haggie monster was Living History Farms machinery 40 years ago. No kidding I can't believe you got a decent spray pattern out of it. I figure all your equipment should be on 38 or 36 inch row so thats not too bad, and clean everything out and run some spray cleaner and put some crop oil (ask the neighbors) in the pump etc. to make them last. Also USE RUBBER GLOVES AND WEAR PANTS when handling and mixing!! The hands are the no.1 source of exposure. Any more questions don't be afraid to ask. Also you might call Haggie and ask them for advice, they might come up with some help over the winter. Great job!

Though i do mostly small and microscopic stuff.

The sprayer was definitely one of your most challenging restorations but there are so many moving parts, it was a small miracle you made it to the field and actually sprayed. My hats off for this whole series, can’t wait to see you get the corn picker/combine working next. You better start working on that now so you’ll be ready for harvest 😉😁
@alan68322 жыл бұрын
Yes, starting sooner is good advice. As for the sprayer, I guess for next year, try to recalculate everything for 2 mph instead of 4. Actually, that seemed faster than 4 to me so confirm that it isn't. That may apply to harvesting too. Plan to do it real slow until you get enough practice to get bored, then speed it up towards normal. Also, fix the steering so it draws less attention away from all the other management tasks. Perhaps farm work should have been the priority instead of that race.

Great video. Do be careful with those chemicals. Not sure it is good to smell the cans. I hope the corn survives it. Great learning experience. Next time you might want to incorporate your fertilize and spray before you plant and when your corns up you can get some drip tubes and side dress your corn with 28. You might want to get Soil samples this fall after you combine and go out and find a drill so you can plant beans next year. Good luck

Old equipment is the best, since its most simple. Try storing modern equipment into storage barn that collases on them for 40 years and try get them started.. it will never happen since too much fancy electronics to fail, rubber and plastic parts to degrade, high tolerance nozzles to clog up and seize up etc.
