"Fear of success" is a good theory! I had a match fall apart because I got an 8 on the break, then on the next rack ran the table down to the 8 and as soon as my brain said, "you almost have a mini-slam", all hell broke loose in my game.

45:19 Stun draw on 2 gives you the same shape on the 3 and then you can use the 5 as keyball. Something to look at.

Me and my gf enjoy when you say “we” could have gone for this shot or that shot. We are in this together haha. Great match man. We like your methodical style, it’s kind of how I play only that as good yet. Cheers.

This made my day! I had a couple other comments recently about how I use "we" so it's interesting you bring this up. Really glad you guys like it - that inclusive feeling is 100% what I'm going for with that phrasing. Thanks to you both for tuning in. :)

@26:20 You probably had the bank 3 while drawing towards the top right corner (without scratching of course). I bet you would have had a few options including a shot on the 5, and the safety just in case you missed the 3. @29:00 Instead of following, I like stunning over even with the 4, so that you can play low and/or outside on the 3 and have a decent chance of going 3 rails for the 5 in the top right corner. You definitely have the skill to pull that off and are playing well so far. With the 8 sitting so close to that corner and the 5 not looking like it had a good enough clearance (Your shot @30:40 made it look like you did not have the clearance?), you had nothing to lose. @35:55 Can you clip the 7 and lock up onto the 3? It's a very touchy shot, but would have been a great safe! Maybe get a little better on the 4/7 cluster too. @50:10 He probably double kissed the 3. @33:55 The kick safe is a shot that I am trying to work on. I always hear the commentators on the pro matches say that using top english will keep the cue from bouncing away from the rail after contact. Looks like you were using middle. Maybe top would have not kicked the 3 away, and you may have had the hook? @1:05:39 You're not ambidextrous?🤣 @1:09:13 Looks like you did not go out far enough with your tip. If you did, your rail spot was at the side pocket. Maybe using draw off the rail might have widened your angle to get to the right side of the 5, but probably not enough. I don't think you had this kick. @1:11:00 Your measuring is better on this one and I see the spot you showed on the rail during your measurement with your cue, and it is above the 3rd diamond. @1:11:20 you hit below the diamond. @1:13:45 This is at least the 2nd or 3rd time he should have used low outside. He probably does not know this shot. His position game needs work. @1:14:00 This is where I see Efren using low inside. @1:22:00 Maybe low outside with speed control to get between the 7 and the left rail? You are out if you pull this off. However... GREAT SHOT @1:22:40 What a grinder, Anthony. You had some ups and downs in this match, but a good W! Looking forward to the next video👍

Bank on the 3 is a good idea, since I would have had coverage away from the 8. Around 29:00, I do agree that playing shot-side on the 5 was the way to go. I think the 5 could have gone past the 8, looking back on it as I said in comms, but going short-side would have been easier overall. 35:55 good idea! Not sure if I had access to the 7 like that, but if I did, that would have worked really well. 1:05:39 haha I can shoot with my off-hand, but I don't spend enough time practicing it to trust it in competition 1:09:13 it's true; I was just measuring for a center-ball hit, not the proper cut angle on the OB 1:14:00 low inside is interesting here. Probably gives you a tidy angle, but might be overcomplicating it. Speed control and cheating the pocket would have done it. 1:22:40 thanks! Felt good to lock this one up. I could see this safe being effective against most players. Thanks, Ryu! This one was emotionally exhausting, but I am proud of the win.

Thanks ref! Yeah I am trying to figure those out. Could be some combination of choosing the wrong aim point, unintentional/unnecessary spin, and missing my aim point...
@LopingCSF
@LopingCSF 2 ай бұрын
@@OnTheSnap The way I learned that system was definitely no spin, just a rolling cue ball. I do think that it's the spin causing you to come up short on the OB and leading to those scratches. That said, I suck at actually using that system, so take my opinion for what it's worth 😜

Hey Anthony. Looking pretty good out there. Just wanted to throw something out here to think about around the 12:07 mark. You could draw off the seven and movd the 3 out of that position. It is a little risky but you got the 1or 6 for back ups in case it does go south. I know the 3 has pockets to go to but not very cun trying to fit the cueball in that window. Imo you move the 3 makes the run percentage go up. Just a suggestiion. Keep grindimg buddy.
@OnTheSnap

Thanks! Good thought on the 3. I don't like to rearrange things if I can help it, but I think I agree that nudging the 3 out might have improved the overall percentages. Appreciate the feedback 😎

@@OnTheSnap If the 3 went in the left side, I like shooting the 4, 7, 3 in the side, 6 in the right side, 1 & 6 in the corner then out, which was probably your plan? You just hit the 7 incorrectly.
@OnTheSnap
@OnTheSnap 2 ай бұрын
@@cosc137 Yeah that was my plan. 3 in the side, 6 in the side or corner depending on the angle I had on the 3, then out.

45.19 it would seem your slower shot speed added some throw to your shot, carrying it to the short rail. Either more speed or slight over cut to compensate for the longer distance

Hi Anthony. I really enjoy watching your matches. Provides valuable insights into game strategy at our level. You are using the wrong spin for your rail first shots. You should actually use a touch of outside. As you found out, inside put the q ball on the wrong side of the object ball. It's a pretty common mistake I see people make all the time.
@OnTheSnap
@OnTheSnap 2 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks Stuart. I'll have to test that out. Appreciate the advice 😃

re the mirror method, I thought you mirror from the center of the object ball as opposed to the edge?
@OnTheSnap
@OnTheSnap 2 ай бұрын
I've been experimenting with it... I think the best way to get a full hit is by aiming at the center of the OB. Sometimes I'm trying to cut the ball, so I'll try to aim for the edge. Still learning!

Such an important question! I actually just finished recording a whole series of videos on preparing for a match, so keep an eye out for that in the next week. In the meantime, one of my current favorites is The Sigh. Simply take a full, deep breath in and then a big forceful exhale. Do that a few times and you'll notice a release of tension right away. Hope it helps 😎

Looking back, I'm not sure that I did. That's a good call in that situation, though, since the combo doesn't really avail decent position.

45:19. I think you don’t put a full stroke on the ball. I can tell your hand didn’t go through the cue ball after u hit it. Also maybe just not baring down on the ball, losing a little focus

Enjoyed thiis match! I was watching Kevin's game closely. He reminds me of typical bar player. Lots of swagger. I notice he doesn't have a smooth thoughtful stroke. Jab jab jab. He can pot balls but doesn't think about shape too much. I suspect he'd do quite fine in a one or two table bar. Most SL7s would beat Kevin. This is not a knock on Kevin. With a little help he could be a very good player.

Glad you enjoyed it! I agree about the swagger, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'll say this: the man had no quit in him. Appreciated playing against him. Kept the pressure on and took advantage of my mistakes.

on the 2 ball where you got stuck on it and had to back cut it. not sure of the exact angle but to me from what i see if you shoot that shot you have to play extreme outside english and dont use speed but use the stroke and let the english take the ball.

It's a good thought. Sometimes you can spin them in like that. Since it was so close, I felt like the spin either wouldn't take, or I would end up deflecting the CB into the 2 before the spin took effect. The whole situation just felt awkward. Should set this one up and practice it to figure out the best way to play it.
