Tell me what you think of this format?? Is this something you’d be interested in having as a league option for you??? DISCLAIMER: I am not 100% on how our league will work, regarding the “Race To” format. Here, we played to the end of the clock to kind of see how many games we would get to in 30 minutes? But I BELIEVE there will be a race to roughly 3 with a negative handicap to the higher ranked player. DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS!!

A fun watch. I hadn't really looked into UPL so wasn't terribly clear on the rules, so thank you for laying those out. I'm not sure I'd play this format at my level, though. 30 seconds is a really fast shot clock for a guy like me. Who knows, though. Might play around with it with a buddy sometime and see how it feels. As for your question about long matches... My first or second session of APA my team made it to the 8 ball playoffs. First match was 2 4 speeds playing a race to 3. That match took 2 1/2 hours with almost zero defensive play. Both our player and the other guy were taking 2-3 minutes per shot at a minimum. I was shocked the LO didn't come put a foot in somebody's back side.

Got to see some great playing! I was a bit confused with your disappointment on the early 8 but finally realized that slop on the 8 allowed meant that the 8 didn't have to be called and not the early 8 type slop, like is allowed in 9 ball 😂 Speaking of rule variants, doesn't the 8 rack on the spot in ultimate pool or was that rule unique to the Louisiana Open? By the way, break alignment and contact looked alot better 💯 Now you can play around with speed and cue ball placement and such but getting that square contact dialed in was definitely priority 👊🏻

At 17:00 when you had that 9-10 cluster to break out, I like to think I would have used the 11 to break them out either before making the 14. But you were still good going 14, then 13 since you were lined up for it after the 14 went in, then coming back down for the 11 in the side and using medium speed with some follow to get the cue going towards them to softly break them up. You had the 15 to fall back on up table to get back in shape for the 12, and since it wasn't on the rail it could have easily have gone in either pocket. I think you saw that 12 on the rail and got in your head like that was your bigger problem and kind of disregarded the 9-10 cluster. You're a great shot and shouldn't have much issue with a ball close to the rail like that, even if you *think* you will. I've been trying to get stuff like that out of my head and clean up the mental game, it helps!
@drewvonporte13 күн бұрын
You’re right, Rich! Should’ve never gone down that path with the 12-ball like that… those shots have been KILLING me recently!!!!!!! I slow roll them and they come off the rail every time. @@drewvonporte if you're slow rolling you might not be taking throw in to account. One of the biggest changes of my game happened 2 or 3 weeks ago when I watched Dr Dave's recent video about throw and learned how slower cue ball speeds induce more cut angle to the object ball. So if that's what you're noticing, then try hitting a bit thicker on those shots where you're hitting slow and see if it helps, or just hit them a bit harder and thinner where allowed. You might already know all of this, but if not, hope it helps!

Love watching Ultimate Pool and would enjoy playing in a league. However, realistically you'd have to be an APA skill level 4 or higher to be able to do it (IMO), and enjoy it - maybe even 5 or higher. Skill level of 3 and below would just take too much time or they'd have to rush and miss even more shots, making games even longer. You 2 played 5 games in 30 minutes. A couple of 2's or 3's playing each other might get in 2 games - and it wouldn't be pretty. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but also depends on the area. We have 71 players in our league. 30 of them are 3's or lower (and we only have one level 7). That being said, I'd welcome a league and I'd join.

I've seen quite a few UP matches at www.youtube.com/@UltimatePoolUSA. Like watching Melling. He scares me lol. He is real good. Weird rule off the break if you scratch. Behind the line shoot any direction. Slop counts even on the Eight ball. Tried to see about starting a league here on the east coast but nope. Haven't locked in a Fargo but I'm about the same as you I guess 550-600ish. You're like me or we're similar in that we like 8 ball a little more than 9 ball. I remember you said that on a recent vid. You and Adam? I need to get my video gear and record. I need to see my flaws where I'm lacking. On your break try a ball and a half left from center see what happens. I try less then a tip left above center. Hate that, can't explain it clearly without a popup picture ball hahaha. From center ball like a clock face go towards 10:30 or between the 10 and 11 half tip. Now I used to break pretty hard I can get some speed still so you have to find the right timing to get a square hit with a little pop. On a Diamond most the balls are past the side pocket. And because I'm getting older I have to call "clear! I'm going Full Retard!" I may or may not have the reason for a few attempted harm by cue ball offenses. I owe like $35 in our team scratch jar. A dollar a pop. Hey but I don't hold the record. I watched cue go into the ceiling. Round hole maybe ten feet up yeah playing 8 ball! I got 14th state bar box. Paid my entry. Fun time but realing long day. Hey if you need help with your break I might be able to get you some more power into it. We'll do it for anyone wo needs it and have video their break. No new rules. International 8-ball rules. Very similar to BCA.

league is way too long - esp 8 ball. i'd like 3 match format (5 person team) to make night go faster. but no vegas option for that. shot clock in this format won't work for us - can't hear shot clock with music blasting. like the idea though.

Ah, I didn’t mention it enough, but that shot clock becomes a non-factor as long as you’re playing RELATIVELY with pace. We had no audio for the timer ourselves, we just let the player know at 10 seconds, then count down from 5… 4… 3… 2… Never came up! Don’t rule out UPL yet!

@@drewvonporte thinking more for other players that i've played that are super slow. we sometimes call out slower players since apa has a time limit also. but then you feel like a jerk rushing the other team.

Oh dude 100%. I deal with it every league night!! That’s why I’m very much looking forward to this, just to keep players on a decent pace honestly. I shoot a little quickly, so I don’t come close to 30 secs unless it’s an unusual scenario. Now, I GET that this league won’t be for EVERYONE, if they like to take 30+ on every shot. For sure. But still!
