My favorite line @ 17:45: "I'm not a welder, I'm just trying to do the best I can". That is pretty inspiring , makes me think to not give up. Good on ya!

That was some amazing work you did there Sebastian. I honestly think you brought those arms back from the dead, can’t wait to see you doing the bodywork on it. Thanks for the upload!

Thanks Leo! I was surprised as well! You’ve might heard that at some point I almost given up on fixing them.

Ollari's Garage yeah, I heard you and I noticed the frustration in your voice also when you were saying that once you start touching other parts, there are always more things to fix afterwards. And I agree with you, it happens to me all the time. But the final product shows your perseverance and the hard work you put on those things. I’m glad you didn’t quit (like I would have) hehe

Hi Sebastian, the bushings, at an MOT, the garage owner said the trailer arm rusted you need to replace it, if you can get a second=-hand one it's ok, but, later, I found out that the scratch of rust, wasn't that bad at all. Garage owner said welding isn't allowed. I think that is ridiculous. Anyhow, I had to get the second-hand one, it looked worse than mine, I travelled in the train with it, it wasn't something I could put in a shopping bag, people stared. The mechanic tasked with installing it, with the new bushings I fetched, could not get the old ones out so he burned them out, the owner was not well-pleased at all, because even though the mechanic did it under an extractor, the whole place smelled of burnt rubber and he was busy for ages, I gather. Seeing you do it, wow, the owner would have been a lot more friendly towards me perhaps (as it became like my van was a problem but basically they did not know what they were doing) if his mechanic had not stressed him out with his way of getting it done. It was a scratch, I went back n forth across the country to get the new bushings, got back to the garage, they said they are the wrong ones, drove, on the 31st of December, right back to the store (100 kms away), where they said they most definitely are the correct ones, and, the only ones now available for the T3s, Vanagons, etc. Drove back and he found a way of getting them in, as that was a big problem for them. I prefer the way you tackle and solve mechanical problems.

Hello, Ollari well I did follow you for a short time bud I have to say I`m impressed with your determination with this welding project from the trailer arms. Great metalwork and welding. I could feel your frustration bud as I say I never give in so I`m just mentioned this because I went true the same process. I did that at the time on Mai 19th 2010. I was so fortunate to buy used trailer arms in perfect condition of the junkyard at that time from a 1989 VW Bus. you probably know all parts of the VW T3 transporter are the same from 1980 to 1990. all those parts are compatible. Greetings and all the best from HCS..see you in the next video

Thak you very much! I'm happy to report that they held up very good after 6months of use. So I'm pleased with them. By the way, I don't know why KZbin puts your commets in the "Held for Review" folder. So I might missed some of your comments. But I just fixed that so that your comments are always approved!

there was someone on a Danish T3 forum on facebook that had a used set of trailing arms for sale and she was asking more for them than a pair of new ones cost. they didn't look rotted but 2800 danske kroner a piece for the ones she was selling mildly rusted and 2748 for a new one seems like a bad deal im my head. but a lot of people did complaint so i don't think they ever sold, or at least not for that price.

At 2:07 Ollari makes his decisions to weld or replace. For lesser than 380 E you get a brandnew one. (2023 price level) Consider the following when making your choice. 1. Time and effort. (hours!) 2. Distortion during welding, and welding-strength of this safety-vital part (!!!!!). Cracks can develop at the edge of highly loaded welds. And if a part is loaded, this wheel arm is. Can you assure your strenght? Do you have full penetration depth of the weld everywhere? Your are not a professional welder. 3. Other unsees corrosion inside the old trailing arm. Seen the fact that a new arm can be inside fully protected with anti corrosion oil the welding of the old one is not the right decision. If the new arm is fully protected inside it will last forever. Nevertheless your skills are high.

a little bit sketchy welding these parts. These parts are made of high strength steel and your patches mild steel. but i think it will be ok, it's not a ferrari A restauration project like this is always like open a can of worms..... best wishes from austria

It held up to 11 tons of concrete and other building materials so far. But as soon as I see some cracks or deformation I’ll change them.
@doughobbs77062 жыл бұрын
not sketchy if you know what you are doing, they are not 'high strength steel' as you put it, they are just pressed mild steel parts that are welded along the seam, the only high carbon steel parts are (should be!) the bolts that go through the bushes and shocks etc.
