I am a 61 year old qualified mechanic and former college instructor, but there is no way on this earth that I would work on, buy, drive or own an electric or hybrid car. Electricity belongs on a milk float or a train as far as i am concerned. Nothing anyone says will change my mind and I don't even think these hateful contraptions are better for the environment, they just move the source of the pollution. I'm glad I'm nearer the end of my driving career rather than the start.

Fantastic video and full credit to Josh and his team - soooo professional. But also full credit to Rob and Chris for their integrity in splitting the profits. Last point: this proves to me that many hybrid and full EV vehicles are not ‘green’ as huge numbers will be scrapped before they make their way to 3rd and 4th owners due to uneconomical repair costs. It’s a sham.

@@neilkay159 there are plenty of situation like that (and more) with ICE cars. A 60p big end shell could easily write off an engine. The difference ice, replacing the 60p bearing wouldn’t fix the problem like this 97p part did.

To be fair to the first garage, he correctly replaced the AC pump, and Rob said the guy told the customer the next step is a module that was 1200 plus vat, It sounds to me he was bang on. we do not know the conversation between the garage and the customer which resulted in the 800 quid offer from the garage. These vehicles are full of high technology, and an owner cannot really expect to get them repaired cheaply, especially when you look at the kit and training that Josh has invested in. Josh is excellent, and he repaired the car at component level with a replacement resistor, whilst this is a good repair, I doubt it would be classed as an 'official' repair which of course would be the 1200 quid module complete. I think owning a hybrid can be a huge gamble, and this video proves just how easily a very nice car with loads of life left in it could easily be scrapped through fear of escalating repair bills. excellent video guys, and great decision to cut Josh in, what goes around, comes around as they say. keep up the excellent videos !

Haven’t commented for a while but as an electrical engineer wanted to say enjoyed a very interesting video. Read the comments about “allowed” and the Electricity at Work regulations covers you guys and Josh. It’s not a home, it’s a place of work. Persons must be competent to work on electrical systems and Josh clearly is and you rightly decided you are not. Another point is that high voltage has a very exact definition in BS 7671, the modern version of the IEE Wiring regulations. Strictly this hybrid battery system is not high voltage under that definition but has a common usage as high voltage. Btw anything over 50 volts can kill you depending on environment and personal skin moisture. Even 50 volts can kill a 4 legged animal! So good to take precautions.

A high end car basically worthless for the sake of a pennies part. If it wasn't for the expert knowledge and determination to get in deep and see the job through there'd be another pile of the earth's resources on the scrap pile. Top result , Josh has the ability and knowledge for this kind of job , it's crazy that in the end it was a 97p resistor, but that's the name of the game , you took a massive gamble with this one , but Josh is an EV specialist, he has invested heavily for these repairs , there is such a long time in testing procedures for hybrid and EVs , safety is paramount, no guessing , no short cuts , you have got to know what you are doing end of story , such a great gesture from you and Chris to profit share on this one , but without Josh's expertise, it would certainly be a head scratcher , the previous repairers obviously wanted the car , but was to cheeky and greedy with their insulting offer for the car , let's hope they watch this video to see what and how much they have missed by trying to be cheeky , great in depth video and a great result for all of you , well done 👏 ✔️ 👍

Well done to Josh for a solid explanation through the process and to you for not chopping any of it out. That sort of issue will scare most high volume dealer workshops as you have to think it through and proceed in a slow hurry or sparks will definitely fly.. It is a cracking car but definitely beyond the scope of a DIY er if any electrical issues arise. The prices that can be charged for parts are mind blowing. all the costs quoted for an actual 97p part were frightening. It was a long vid but well woth the time.
