Just for the future. I was working as PCB&Cricuit designer for ~1,5y and one thing I've learned is that the manufacturer will try to cheap out on every non mandatory component, whenever and wherever it's possible. Soo if there is a shorted capacitor it's best not to just knock it off and call it a day, but replace it. If there is an simple LC filter, like here, the capacitor will be mandatory. Also for cleaning of the PCB, I highly recommend pcc15 cleanser, it makes life a lot easier. Good repair!

I have been screaming at the screen for over 15mins... It´s called Middlebrook's stability criterion. You need the input of the DC DC converter to have a much higher impedance compared to the line feeding it, for the DC DC converter to be stable. I also would have changed the inductor for the input LC. These ferrites are usually made for a couple Amperes not 6A. Although you didn´t push it continuously, it is enough to shock the component and limit its life span. Probably inconsequential in the end, but I would still have done it.

Never knew that before! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!

@@MainboardMedic happy to help!!! BTW the criterion extends to anything with a feedback look on its output, so that would be lineal regulators also. Not working at all, being the case here is also a relatively extreme example. Probably you had the input rail dipping below the UVLO limit momentarily when the DC DC was trying to start, but something like that, you can only see with an oscilloscope.

Caps are often required to stabalize the input/output power from the ICs. They are frequently just left off, but it is possible that you can have unstable input/output without the caps. The original IC you removed are more than likely not faulty.

I just wouldnt have expected it to not run at all without it!

Nice work sir... Do you have Broadview and Schematic fo Asus ROG Strix B760-F?
@iLLusiveMan82Ай бұрын
That is an LC filter. The inductor is supposed to filter out high freq noise and the capacitor filters out low freq noise. When you see LC filters don't just assume that it works without the capacitor.

hey there bro i was wondering if you have an community or something, ive got 2 mainboards that look totally fine, but i would like to test them using multimeter, wich points do i have to measure and whats considered good readings, please, danke shon.

Hey there! I do not, there are many different Discords already for that!

good job, but the time spent on a card already quite old is not profitable, the price of a B550 is not very expensive and I am concerned that oxidation will cause another breakdown in a fairly rapid future

de chip needs to see the capacitance of that capacitor that is what it is why that capacitor is mandatory

Is it that bad? Feel like i see everything! It is a digital one so defenetly not the best, but i have been running very well with that! And yet again asking, when will there be another "not fixing Motherboard" video?
