Bentonite was definitely mixed too thin/not given enough time to reach ideal viscosity. I finally after all these years started packing a mixing drill on the pump and it helps to bring that bentonite up to viscosity within 30-60 seconds. Best bet is to throw a bag of prime-a-pac into a 5 gallon pail and fill it half full with water. It will turn into pudding within a few hours. You can pack it around for weeks like that, just add water and mix by hand when the time comes to use it. For a nasty mix like what you had there, I would throw a full bucket into the back elbow, as well as another full bucket into the system at around the 150’ mark. I get away with using only a half a bucket most of the time because I’m running smaller diameter 2” hose. For a long run of larger diameter hose like that I would definitely suggest two full buckets. Lastly, if you have access to warm/hot water (ready mix truck in winter time) it’s helps to mix the prime-a-pac much faster. We WILL make you a believer in bentonite/prime-a-pac yet!!!! 😁

Well I admitted that the failure was more my fault than anything else. Definitely a lesson learned. I’m wondering if I didn’t hurt myself by putting water ahead of it with that 50’ incline right off the bat. I think that may have contributed to thinning out the primer as well. I’m learning. Lol

@@MuddyfeetConcretePumping I’ve found that with rocky mud, mixing the bentonite a good bit thicker, and then tossing a gallon or two of water in front of the primer actually helps to prevent segregation.

@@MuddyfeetConcretePumping I shot an attempted water prime video (Will it Plug! Canada) this past week. Probably will post next week as I’m not yet mentally prepared for what the comments section will very likely have to throw at me! 😂😂😂

When I did concrete pumping in the UK I always checked the 1st load especially if I could hear the stones rattling on the drum as they turned up and got them to spin the drum before pouring into my hopper so as to get them stones at the top of the drum mixed in as I noticed after you plugged the driver was spinning the drum, for some reason on the way to a job the mix seems to separate leaving a lot aggregate at the top a nice video a result with the help with the hoses at the end happy days'.

Thanks for watching. Companies are starting to get cheap with the materials and using man sand. That’s our biggest problem.

What is the air pressure that is able to move all that concrete uphill when you're cleaning out?
@MuddyfeetConcretePumping7 ай бұрын
Typically 40 psi to get it started

I've also mixed when i get to the job. I find the consistency like thick turkey gravey works best, but I still prefer cement/mortar when I can.
@MuddyfeetConcretePumping7 ай бұрын
Exactly! I should have mixed it up when I got their. But I’m not sure putting water ahead of it didn’t hurt me with that incline right off the bat.

I use flowcrete primer 4 small bags into the hopper fill it with water to the top ...i pumped 18 metres up and 67 meters along the slab to the rear not one plug .

What size hose are you using and what size rock is in the mix
@MuddyfeetConcretePumping7 ай бұрын
I use 3” x25’. The stone in this mix is a 1” minus rock.

Another great video. I use slick pack number 2. It’s pretty much just pure cow snot lol. I pumped 300ft today and 450 ft the other day and only got one segregated plug but other then that it’s done me pretty good. Keeep it up man!!

Those slick packs are for booms only 100ft maybe in rubber but it separates the mud mortar and powder are the best but in an emergency. Yes 👍🏻

Yes your exactly right. I want even use that stuff in the line pump. The prima pac is actually bentonite. It works well if properly done right.
