Just a suggestion but for classic cars, without ABS, DOT5 (silicone) brake fluid is really worth it, but if you want to stick with etherglycol I highly recommend the brand Pentosin. Also you should really draw refrigerant systems down to absolute vacuum for 30mins before filling them.

Kevin up to the point where you purged the line to your manifold gauges, you were golden. Next time, with the AC off open up your high side & dump as much refrigerant in as it will take. Then fire up the AC & finish charging slowly through the suction side. Like any compressor, they aren't designed to pump liquid. I watch the show religiously, love it. Hope this helps.

Little tip for pouring from those cans, or from 5 gallon buckets. Pour with the spout at the TOP instead of the bottom. This gives a path for air to get in that isn't pushing past fluid, causing the inconsistent "blup blup" flow of liquid.

Hey Kevin. On the AC, pull your vacuum, charge as much as you can on the high side without the car running. Close your high side valve, start the car with the AC on full and finish charging on the low side. But, I'm sure you either know that or have already been told 1000 times.

You should always turn the compressor over by hand to keep from hydro-locking the compressor. I would recommend putting half the oil in the dryer.

I’m not really a ford fan, but I had a 1977 thunderbird in the late 90s own by an old farmer, with only 33k mouse crap thick on motor, interior like new, even smelled like new. 8 track and loaded. Rode like a dream. Sold it to a neighbor, and bought a 41 Mercury convertible with a 327/auto. Bothe were great cars!

On those old York-style compressors you are supposed install the refrigerant as a gas, or you can damage the valves. You may have damaged the valves when you installed the refrigerant as a liquid, resulting in a noisy compressor.

You guys probably hydro locked the ac compressor slightly when you pierced the can on its side and bent a rod. Technically you’re supposed to have the can upright so it’s mostly gaseous and tilt the can to slowly add liquid. Lots of pumps were designed for abuse so most of the time you can get away with it, but cheap remans are probably not in that camp. At least you can switch it out easy and don’t have to remove the water pump/exhaust header like on the corvette I’ve been working on.

When pouring from a container with spout/nozzle bult in like them rectangular or 5 gallon bucket, keep the spout/nozzle at the top most position. That allows the air in as you pour out the liquid.

The fact that the Lemans can spin 31s by just jabbing the throttle just shows the amount of torque that big block has. The ranchero on the other hand seems to have the collective torque of 3 toddles pushing a space shuttle uphill

Angus. Friend. They sell an attachment for power washers that will let you spray under the car without also being under the car yourself. You might need to spray out a couple nooks and crannies but you can do 95% of it while not also taking a rust and dirt shower

I absolutely loved this video! can you please do a comprehensive video on how to do an awesome gm ac system overhaul, I have 2 90s silverado trucks that do not have working ac and I've spent 2k on one and it went back out I want to do both myself this time and make them working again, I know the systems aren't very complex and I know I can fix them but I need to know those old school tricks to make them work better and from your videos I need a new flow through condenser for the r-134 systems from r-12. Thanks for Explaining the Exact 2 Things i still need to fix on my 78 Cougar: the AC and the Sending unit I did not expect Compressed air Dusters to work for filling this thing.

Don't charge the ac with liquid like they did. Make sure the compressor is pulling in vapor. You can basically hydro lock the compressor and damage it like they did if it pulls liquid refrigerant.

@@kjjustinXD I have never used canned duster as a refrigerant bottle so I can't say to how well it works but on a normal bottle you need to pull from the top of the bottle where the vapor is. You might also need to slow down the flow with the valve to make sure it vaporizes going into the system. If you use canned duster be careful sometimes they add other stuff in them to keep people from snorting them.

Rancheros and El Caminos were the crossovers before crossovers and absolutely fantastic run around utility vehicles. My entire childhood before my teens can be summed up in a ranchero. A quick tip though, put a couple of towels behind the seat....you'll thank me later when those brown seats have been sitting in the sun all day 😬😂😅.
