Put a set of bearings in that thing and roll on brother. I’ve had these Jeeps for 20 years now and have a 91 now and the old engine I had in it I put a set of bearings in it with just dropping the pan and doing it in the truck. I polished the crank with Emory cloth and it had some pretty nasty marks in it but this was over Christmas 2008 and parts stores were shut down and I needed the truck running so I went for it. My wife drove the truck to work 45 miles each way for the next 8 years and I just put a new engine in it this year. Those 360s are damn near bulletproof!!

I was able to catch it quickly and pulled over before any damage was done, but these parts don't exactly sit on store shelves anymore. Luckily had a friend in the Buick community who loaned me a regulator to get home. I recommend anyone who drives something with an external oil pump like the Buick and AMC V8s to keep a spare oil pump kit in the trunk. I plan on safety wiring my new regulator to keep it from backing out again.

Back in the mid 80s, I did my Eagle Scout community service project doing repairs to the pews in my church. The parish warden (in charge of repairs and maintenance in the church building) was a very sweet older gentleman who had a Jeep Wagoneer. It was older, but IMMACULATE! I have loved the Wagoneer ever since, and have always seen the Grand Cherokee as a sad replacement. I'd love to find a Wagoner, or even an old Cherokee, that hasn't been beat to death and super rusty. I'd much rather have one of these that a modern car filled with electronics. My daily commute is only 2 minutes, but I could pack it up to go camping, fishing, pull a small boat, etc. It also helps that I work in a NAPA Auto Parts store, and I've been working on cars for YEARS! We have lots of guys looking for parts for CJs, Wranglers, and Cherokees, but but not Wagoneers.

yayyyyy Mook is back! Those old Wagoneers are awesome. Idk the last time i seen one. Id say that engine deserves a full rebuild. What you said ab parking brakes is 100% accurate. My 05 F150 doesn't have one cuz it was all rusty and cut off and I've never used the one on my 03 Subaru Forester. I wouldn't dare use the one in my 65 Mercury Comet. So yeah here in the north on a vehicle that is getting older You are asking for trouble.

"Do you know engines?" "I know a thing or 2." So modest.

Waiting for shipping is never fun, especially when the thing being shipped is an inherited 71 C10 that's been parked for 15 years and been in the fam since new. But that's where I'm sitting! 250/3-on-the-tree, in shockingly good shape, shouldn't be hard to get it going again.

I've loved those Grand Wagoneers since they were new when I was a kid. Saw a goldish yellow one a couple weeks ago out in the wild that looked to be in pretty good shape. I can tell the wild Mook really loves her new to her rig.

I'm glad to see this era jeep on here finally, Have always been my favorite, the AMC jeeps, I have an '86 Wagoneer, although not a woody and mines been 5.2 magnum swapped.. I wish more people would preserve the AMC engines. Also those wheels, the turbine wheels have always been my favorite kind of wheel! I wonder if it's piston slap you are hearing, I have a '87 Cherokee aswell with the 4.0 and they are known for piston slap, mine has piston slap for sure and it sounds very similar, actually, exactly the same. it's the one in my profile picture, ran it with piston slap for 5 years, ate a little oil, ran out of oil once even, still going strong, gone on most glaciars of Iceland slappin those cylender walls hahah.

I've always loved the Grand Wagoneer. The body design with the wood paneling always caught my eye. Plus it being AMC is a bonus. Great work, can't wait to see more of the Jeep!

i live in holland and before i had my license i was obsessed with a jeep cherokee. I went to check one out with my dad and grandpa and i had the exact same reaction as her hahaha. Ended up not with a cherokee, but with a cherokee, wagoneer edition, from 1985. It's just like the cherokee, but it has chrome on the mirrors and door handles. It's such an easy car once you get it to run. We had a lot of work on it, but i wouldn't trade it for the world.

Ive picked up 3 AMC 360 engines for my 1 Jeep project. They all have the same crank problem, and similar noise. The thrust bearing eats into the crank and gives a bunch of front to back end play. I've sent one crank out to a shop in MI to have it welded and turned.

I'm working on a 1979 Wagoneer and it has a similar squeak at 46:05, for me it's the belts slipping on the alternator. Mine also has valve train noise and for me it sounds like it's coming from the rear drivers side of the engine.

After lift kit, 35s, tune, big intake, changed trans to shift at 6300 rpm on my 04 ram i got 9mpg and really didnt care. Still cheaper than a car loan payment a month. My new diesel gets 15mpg and feels like I can go years between fill ups lol
