Can We Rebuild My Ford CL9000 Front Suspension

We find an issue with my '83 Ford CL9000. The front suspension is very different than I thought.

I would trust Matt at Diesel Creek (just east of Pittsburgh) to give you straight information about what’s good and what’s bad about any used piece of equipment he sells. He’s also friends with Mike at Dirt Perfect, Chris at LetsDig18, Clint at C and C Equipment, Wes at Watch Wes Work, and other KZbinrs.

Also, Sam at Scrappy Industries (another friend of Matt at Diesel Creek) drives a vintage Ford LTL9000 that might have similar front suspension, and he’s done a LOT of mechanical work on his Ford power unit. He might have sources for hard to find parts.

Have a 1984 on L9000 long nose and has greasable shackles but not your H type. Just 2pins and 2 shackle plates . Also the mounting plate is larger to mount to the chassis.The front is a single pin and greasable also. We have a tandem drive primemover and a tandem drive with a 24 ft tray both single cabs and both have the exact same suspension

Get with Clint at C and C equipment,he has a handle made like a T . It takes two people to pound it out. One holds the handle and the other pounds it with hammer

Steve i got all. The rubber bushings for the rear end torque arms (dog bones) for my 78 cl 9000 from fleetpride they still have a store in el paso tx and albq nm dont know if theve got those front ones may be worth a call, the spring eye bushings were ordered through the international dealer in las cruces nm.if i remember the boxes that they came in were euclid the susp on the back of that ford was rayco 101f the f stood for ford it slso carried another meaning if it had the f on it regular rayco 101 wouldnt work had to be the f=ford or fu_ _ _d if you get my drift. I was allways able to find anything i needed for that truck some times it took some searching but allways got the parts!

Hello there, to get the outer sleeve out of the spring, take the saw blade out of a hacksaw and then put it through the eye hole and then re attach the saw blade and then carefully cut down to the bottom of the sleeve and then it will come out easy. Another way you can do it is to weld the inside of the sleeve and as it cools down it will contract the metal and it should almost drop out. Just my two cents. Cheers.

Im pretty sure you can press that bushing out of the spring and replace it. I believe the bushings and pins on greasable are different sized anyhow

Also your shackles will be different on greasable pins and bushings. Should be able to buy the shackles the greasable shackles are 2 piece. Basically 2 shackles.

The Ford dealer in Buffalo is now the Hunter Peterbilt. If you want, look.up where the Ford Heavy truck dealer was in Wisconsin and call them up. They may have an old book or mechanic who remembers how the shackles went together.

We had them over here on UK Fords years back. Was thinking they had pins inside with bushes outside when you said about the lip on pins but you had already butchered them

The bolt and the H mount can be made but you would need a milling machine type to do all that. I can be done if you have your own tools, machine and such that. Nothing is impossible to make as long you have the materiel and machine milling to do it. But yea, look in to the bolt mounts, if the mounts is not able to be find in store. Might as well start thinking getting measurements for the petebilt mount. so you have about few weeks to month before they start on your chassis beam I think.

Hell we use forklifts for allot of thing's besides loading or unloading stuff. We use them to lift up trailer's to change tires or axles or airbags. We use tuem ti change out motors and transmissions in semi's and other bug truck's. Jessie's grandma said hell Steve and Chris should have a pulling contest and see who's truck can pull. I was like hell thet might be in a video pretty soon. Nana (grandma) love's driving the forklifts. And helping mechanics that needs somebody to operate the forklift. First time she did it. She got on to move tue forks up and down. The sensor for the seat was going off cause she didn't have tue seatbelt on. She was like what's this bleeping noise. Mechanics said put the seatbelt on. She was like i ain't even moving the dang thing. She did and i showed her the sensor and she said just take it off and I did and the motor died. She was like that's messed up. Listening to the dam bleep bleep. Mechanics that was around was laughing. They all love having her around. First time she heard timing gun was hallerious. We showed her what it does and she was like that's cool. Running out of gas really pisses us off in the middle of welding or cutting. Grandma eas using the blowtorch cutting off the bolts off a old trailer to be cut up to scrap. I was watching her and bam out of gas. She was like WTF happened. Somebody said u ran out of gas. She was like bleep. Cause she was wanting to finish cutting it up. We got a filled tank and got her cutting. Then like about 10 minutes she got it cut up. And she also knows how to weld anything. Cause she's been doing thst since she was in her mid mid 20's she will say oh u think this grandma does crafts and nits stuff. Nope she likes getting her hands dirty. Sue helped a mechanic 2 week's ago teardown a motor and then they both rebuilt it. Dam that's why she said they gotta wear protective glasses. I heard something hit the floor. I backed up the video and was like why u think everyone wears protective eyes glasses.
