Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company, located in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, was a major shipbuilder for the Great Lakes. It was founded in 1902, with the purchase of the "Burger & Burger Shipyard," a predecessor to The Burger Boat Company, and made mainly steel ferries and ore haulers. During World War II, it built submarines, tank landing craft (LCTs), and self-propelled fuel barges called "YOs".[1] Employment peaked during the military years at 7000. The shipyard closed in 1968, when Manitowoc Company bought Bay Shipbuilding Company and moved their shipbuilding operation to Sturgeon Bay.

He's done a nice job with Orwell, especially given the limited time you've had to let him work his magic in between loads. A show truck will never put Orwell to shame. Nothing wrong with being shined and polished but if it ain't puttin in work you can keep it. Orwell is still out there doing what he was built for and looking good doing it. Just my opinion of course

At truck shows there should be a category / rating for older WORKING trucks where the rating is the age of the truck multiplied by the number of paying loads (or miles) in the previous 12 months. I bet Orwell would rank near the top!!

New sub, quit driving otr in late 90’s. I would of thought you were more of a mack guy myself. But your rig is awesome nonetheless the less. I’ve seen a number of comments “I’d rather drive a new truck blah blah blah” they are idiots and not having to pay the maintenance bill on new garbage with emission crap that is expensive to fix and unnecessary, and kills mpg. Don’t even get me started on DEF.

I drive local moving equipment around various construction sites as needed and the vast majority of the issues we have with the trucks are DPF/DEF issues…. but since they are company trucks and I get paid the same regardless so as frustrated as I get at times it is no money out of my pocket

USS Cobia was built at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton Ct and Quonset Point in R.I. Same areas as those navy bases you went to in July I want to say. Next time your in that area you need an excuse to go up 195 and show off BB 59 USS Massachusetts. She fired the first and last 16" salvos of the war. They have a shell fragment fired by her at the French battle ship Jean Bart during Casablanca. The museum that runs her also has what was recoverable of John F. Kennedys pt boat, PT 109. 2 intact pt boats, USS Lionfish a war famous balao submarine.

The peninsula where you picked up in Manitowoc is the former site of Manitowoc Shipbuilding where they built 28 submarines during WWII. They now build Krone cranes on the site. The first was barged to a naval shipyard on the East Coast and the second went down the Mississippi to the Gulf and then to the West Coast. Not sure where the two almost completed ones will be going.
