This makes me think of an absolutely crazy concept that would be crazy hard to set up but could be extremely fun : one band writes a song, then an artist designs a cover art for the song, then another band writes another song just by looking at the cover, then another artist designs a cover for that song, then another band writes another song based only on that art, and so on... I would love to see how far this could go
@algernon7272 Жыл бұрын
Dude, it's musical telephone! It's that game where someone would whisper something and that phrase would be passed along and we'd see how the phrase changes, but instead of a phrase it's a mix of album art and music. That's such a fun idea.
@Shmicah1235 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn't actually be too crazy considering RubberRoss and co. do art challenges a lot, and Andrew used to do a series where multiple producers make a track base don the same prompt. It would take a while to execute, but I don't think it's too insane to organize
@Slyness64209 Жыл бұрын
@@algernon7272 Yeah exactly! I was also thinking about the game Gartic Phone, I've always wanted to see what that could be with music
@Slyness64209 Жыл бұрын
@@Shmicah1235 I never heard of the first dude you cited, but yeah I also thought of the 4 producers 1 sample series when writing this, I'm sure Andrew and Rob are totally capable of organizing something like this, what I'm mostly saying is that it would be a huge project that would require a LOT of work and I don't think they'd do all that just for one random comment haha
@themadsamplist Жыл бұрын
There used to be something called the Hop in Amsterdam where a producer made a couple of beats on stage, the audience picked one and then the rapper(s) would write lyrics to that beat and recorded it on stage in a vocal booth while a painter made the cover. A little different concept but very cool. I went to see EPMD and Keith Murray. The track would be released on 12" vinyl in a limited edition.
@Slyness64209 Жыл бұрын

Thanks for introducing me to Curb Service. His stuff is so good - everyone watching this needs to click on the link and check it out. Kinda reminds me of some Beck - a lot of beats and sounds that sound like they came off an old soul record with good riffs and surprising genre-hopping combinations. I've been away from collaborative music-making a few years, but this whole Sonic Boom series you guys are doing is so much fun to watch. And man you guys do a great job of getting things done without any friction, although I think friction can be good for the end result even if it can be stressful in the moment (and does not help with time limits). Come to think of it - maybe you need a few episodes where you are fighting and yelling at each other. Are those in the pipeline? JK - it's great to see such easygoing fun in making music.
@mrleek Жыл бұрын
It’s so interesting to watch these guys write and bounce ideas off each other. Like you can see Andrew kinda directing the whole thing, straight away thinking about song structure and all the little details, and then Rob just throwing things out there, seeing what sticks, and just smashing it on whatever instrument he plays. ❤
