Just started the video and the answer is yes. Because I did already.

Awesome! 💪 How did it go, and any advice to share?

Generally, I'd say don't sweat it so much. Many of the generic monsters throughout barovia are in ezd6. ( or something close enough) Anything else I'd say make it up or pull from a different ezd6 monster. Your players don't know, so why should it really matter? And my favorite trick to use is that if the players are beating an important boss too fast, just add strikes until it seemed "epic" enough. Again, they don't know. Curse of strahd is great because it's setting is so interesting and it's villain is memorable. Not because of any mechanism.

@@RebelChumtotally agree on that! Personally I prefer to wing it most of the time, but since I was asked about specifics, there ya go.

Super cool video 👍 Well done mentioning the need for deception and subterfuge to bring any worthy big bad to life.

Thank you Chris! Trying out a few different things in terms of filming, so wasn't sure if it would work - definitely need to get more comfortable talking to the camera.

@@KarlmakesstuffThe new production style is top notch! Perhaps because of its elegant mechanical streamlining, I have always found designing monster stats for EZD6 to be more challenging than for its sister Runehammer publication Index Card RPG; the toolkit available to GMs is comparatively quite abbreviated. You did an amazing job of translating an iconic foe into Scotty’s fast, fun, playable system architecture in a way that remains very faithful to the tropes in the source material.
@Karlmakesstuff7 ай бұрын
Not so much in my experience, especially for monsters like Strahd whose narrative effects are so powerful. You could practically run him purely narratively for most of a Curse of Strahd campaign. The real difficulty with writing rules and stats for EZD6 is, as DM Scotty often says, "keeping it EZ". Some simple rules are far more effective than pages of specifics.

Karl, thank you so much for your effort to do this! not easy stuff - I appreciate the thought process that went into it. I mostly run one shots or maybe a very very short campaign. so I'm wondering -- given the resources around the lost mines of phendelver (you know, the one in everyone's starter box) -- what/where would you begin there? I'm curious at a higher level than stat block conversions.
@Karlmakesstuff7 ай бұрын
It was a pleasant mental exercise! Lost mines of Phandelver huh? I think I might give that a shot, I never played it.

@@Karlmakesstuff it’s one of the most popular low-level campaigns that people do. It’s also surprising how many videos are about it on KZbin. You might be able to drive some more traffic to your channel with some well-placed keywords.
@Karlmakesstuff7 ай бұрын
Don't want to worry much about keywords, but if it makes a fun conversion, I'm game :)

@@Karlmakesstuff I’m currently working on a game system, that can be a one shot for people that never played. Quick, simple and easy, and if you want more complicated and advanced campaign style, just adding to the basic game. I’m pretty excited for it.
