We see patronus change for Tonk’s after she falls for Lupin and Dumbledore is surprised Snape’s hasn’t changed in the many years since Lily’s death. There seems to be a link between patronus and animagus, so I would say they can change - but whether that change can be done purposefully (as patronus seems to be an expression of your inner feelings) is a different question.

I think you miss a fundamental difference in a patronus and animagus though. To cast a patronus, by definition, you need to draw on your happiness. You are drawing from your emotion. Hence why it can change. Your sense of happiness can change once you fall in love as that new person becomes your source of happiness. However, your animagus form is based off of yourself. Your traits. Not your emotion. As noted in the video, Sirius is a dog, a sign of his immense loyalty as dogs are well known for that. However, Sirius being loyal is not dependent on an emotion. It’s part of who he is. Whether or not he loves someone new for a wife, his loyalty won’t change, henceforth, his animagus will never change but his patronus can.

I’ve wondered whether with training/practice you might be able to transform into different size or ages of your animal, or if the age of the animal is determined by the age of the animagus, or if the age/size of the animal is always the same every time they transform. While this may not be a helpful skill for most animagi, if the animal is larger like a polar bear, it could be beneficial to have both a full sized transformation (full sized polar bears can get up to 2 tons) as well as having a juvenile form for indoors or stealth. Would be interesting if you didn’t age while transformed, like when you transform back into a human it defaults to exactly how you were before you transformed.

Is there any relation between a person’s animagus form and their patronus? I believe James’ is the same isn’t it?

Not sure how accurate it is but I think that it has something to do with their spirit animal. As far as I can tell, generally the patronus and animagus form are the same. IDK about animagus forms changing in the same way patronus forms can.

There is a general correlation but I believe it can differ greatly because of one thing. Emotions. The animagus is said to be based off the person’s own traits. Their own personality. However, the patronus is literally your embodiment of emotion. Specifically happiness. You have to draw from your happiness in order to cast the spell. Your animagus is not drawn from that. So while you can draw happiness from someone else, i.e. Tonks and Snape, their personalities are not drawn from their emotion, henceforth your animagus will remain the same, even if your patronus changed.

So many forget that we cannot directly draw a correlation between a patronus and animagus. They are 2 distinctly different aspects of a person. In cannon, we are told a specific difference in their fundamentals. By definition of the patronus charm, we know that to cast it, the person must draw from their own happiness. Their own emotion. The patronus IS an EMOTIONAL draw in order to fight off dementors who are trying to feed off of your own emotions. It’s an emotional response to protect your emotional health and after, your soul, from being sucked out of you. However, your animagus form is based off of yourself. Your traits. Not your emotion. His traits do not change.

May be being at Stonehenge in the UK and the study of druidic lore while casting the spell and changing to any animagus animal also allows to change into different animals at will.

Since someone’s patronus can change under specific circumstances and an Animagi’s animal form seems to be connect to their patronus, based on that I imagine under the same or similar circumstances an Animagi’s animal form can change too.

If we could choose our Animagus, you can rest assured we’d all be lions, adorable puppies, or magnificent eagles. But realistically, an Animagus is closely linked to your personality. For example, the brave and rebellious James Potter is famously a stag, whereas the conniving journalist Rita Skeeter is a beetle.

I would have these choices for a animagius Either a praying mantis, Sphinx cat , Tyrannosaurus Rex , Pyroraptor , Woolly rhino , Black Rhino I would go with the Woolly Rhino as a choice

How in the world did some witch or wizard figure this out? Also, what about just transfiguring yourself? Although, I can’t see how they would transfigure themselves back to normal. Hmm….

Sir, we applied the old TSR Marvel Super Heroes TTRPG to Harry Potter for player characters some time back, and this is in answer to your question of what do I think. One of our NPC's was afflicted with lycanthropy and not only his patronus, but his animagus form was changed to a wolf, as in the case of Ms Tonks' patronus form in the books. Interesting video, thank-you.

If you were an Animagus and your form is a cat like McGonagall or lets say a Matagot. Part 1) If you were bit by a werewolf could you stay in your cat form for the time of the full moon and not become a werewolf? Part 2) if it doesn't work could you have someone cast "Felifors" on you. Turning a car (you) into a cauldron. Would being a cauldron keep you from changing into a werewolf?

Since Natsai Onai in Hogwarts legacy was a gazelle and her father a giraffe when they transformed. I like to think that the animagus form is related to the environment you’re in. So maybe when you drink the potion in the water your animagus form might be a marine animal?

I dont think you can change your animrgas form because it is a reflection of you. Similar to a patronus. But a patronus can change due to emotions, but animrgas is self reflection, something you can't change. Sirius was a dog because he was loyal to his friends. James was a stag because he was a protector and leader of his friends. And im pretty sure how we can establish why Pettigrew was a rat. Every animal in the Wizarding world represents traits. No different than the belief we all have spirit animals. The patronus is probably more symbolic. Harrys patronus was a Stag, just like his father. And Harry was a leader and a protector. Ron's was a dog, which represents loyalty. Hermiones was an otter, which represents intelligence and loyalty. But it can be changed later on. As we know Tonk's patronus became a wolf because of her love for lupin. And Snape's was a doe representing his love for Lily. Dumbledore's was a pheonix, which represents a pure heart.

I wonder if you're already and Animagus, can you still use Transfiguration on yourself? I ask this because Krom was able to partially Transfigure into a shark. I don't believe one can change their Animagus form.

So if your animagus is a bird, do you inherently know how to fly or do you have to learn how to?

Considering how certain Animagi get themselves checked for acting too human, my money is on the latter for most cases. Some may be able to draw from animal instincts to learn how it's done and in bird form, they have to eat a lot. It takes a lot of energy and strength to beat the wings enough to get airborne hence why birds have a keel, wishbone and breast muscles.
