@@zx-dx719 yeah that’s been pretty consistent throughout most fromsoft games, there’s all kinds of space time continuum shenanigans. Like in DS3 if you kill curse rotted great wood you also kill Sirrus’ grandpa but can still do her quest.

Whips aren’t that bad, at least, if you really commit to them. Dual wielding. Early game, Fire Whip and Cold Urumi. Late game, Giant’s Red Braid and Magma Candlestick both have fun AoWs, and despite each being a different stat focus, you can get good damage with little investment. Then add Flame, Grant Me Strength. Or, respec to an Occult build and use two Hoslow’s Petal Whips for bleed.

I think a Ghost rider build could be awesome! Use the royal remains armor to get the skull and probably a whip for the chain. You could also use flame of the red manes and a few other fire casting spells too and eventually even get the whip from the fire giant to go fully into fire damage maybe

You can kill Millicent and continue her quest, so that was actually an unnecessary death I think. I've killed her invade every time I've played the game and then do her quest anyway (unless they patched that recently in which case my bad). IMO, shouldn't count, making the build even better. Faith was amazing in DS3, specially once they released The Ringed City the dlc in which you get the lighting bow miracle. That thing is so cool looking and useful on a faith build. Faith in ER is not that good for spells but pretty nice for Ashes of War. Kind of a let down but I believe they can save it in a future dlc

Grab the Blasphemous Blade if you're feeling a bit cheated by investing in faith. It deals fire damage and has a killer special attack. I did a strength/faith build for my first run and felt like I was super underpowered by the end of the game. Then I got the Blasphemous Blade and was unstoppable (unless the boss resisted fire, of course).

i still plan on playing a caster build when i finally get the game, cuz im very bad at melee combat in souls-likes. actually was kinda told at some point that astroligan/spell build is a good beginner option for new players who arent used to these kinds of games

Yeah! It should be good. You'll want a shield and a melee weapon of some sort available for when you run out of mana or if an enemy is too aggressive, but trying to focus on spells will be a good path forward, very fun n flashy

@@Shmethan my main plan is something like a spear and then a lot of stamina for evasion tactics, rather than shield-nanigans, but I'll look to that if my idea doesnt work out!

That should definitely work, I would say the game is more fun if you play without a shield BUT it's worth having one you can pull out if a boss or area isn't giving you enough slack. But I love spears, there's one that's specifically great for int caster builds that I could reccomend altho I don't wanna backseat game 😂

@@patdav56 haha good, I feel like with these games it's rlly good having a friend you can ask advice from. Aaaaanyways the spear I was thinking of is called the clayman's harpoon. It's special because it scales well with int and you can change the ash of war (weapon skill) to be whatever you please. You won't be able to get it immediately tho, it's a rare drop from some enemies that wield it in the underground area that are a little bit harder

I'd just stay on the horse while farming the cleanrot knights, still took me 2 hours or so trying to get all their weapons. Had 5 sets of armor by that point 😂

oh, what you said about "farming armor" reminds me of an old game called "Vindictus". in THAT game, ALL equipment upgrades require farming COMPONENTS and putting them together! i remember one item, a magic staff, required me to BREAK an enemy's Bracelet with a secondary weapon, AND beat him, EIGHTEEN TIMES, just for ONE of the different type of"resources" needed! and all the rest were complete random from winning...

Hey there, not going to backseat but if you need the holy sword aesthetic for another build in the future without crappy holy damage there is an Ash of War called Sacred Order which drops from a scarab in Altus just north where you come out if you take the Magma Wyrm path rather than the elevator. Sacred Order looks like a holy buff but it actually increases all damage by 10% so if you slap it on a Keen or Heavy weapon it improves physical damage. Anyways lovely video as always, hope my unsolicited advice comes in handy some day!

Holy is pretty good throughout most of the game, but it's clear that you're not really supposed to go with one specific damage type only. That's why so many sorceries have cold or physical damage, and why there are like... 5 different types of fire for incantations, as well as multiple types of lightning. I plan to make a faith/strength/arcane pyromancer build where I use every kind of fire in the game for a multitude of damaging options,and focus on black flame for the last couple of bosses. Well, Bleed flame for tarnished daddy.

The Faith weapons are extremely powerful. Blasphemous Blade, Relic Sword, Black Knife and Black Blade, Halo Scythe, Envoy’s Long Horn, and so many more that are straight up busted for most of the game. The Faith spells, however, are largely lackluster at best and garbage at worst. The only offensive ones that ever seem actually worth their fp cost are the Ancient Dragon’s Lightning Strike, the Black Flame ball and wall, Catch Flame, and the Discus of Light for a cheap spell alternative to bows. All other offensive incants feel like garbage right now. And most of the passive incants are super mediocre outside of Flame Cleanse Me, Flame Grant Me Strength, and Erdtree Heal.

For ranni's quest, you don't actually have to go to the carian tower to progress if you only need access to nokstella. Just reload the area after she gives you the statue and go to the teleporter. Should save you time in the future

Holy Damage is trash in PvE, however in PvP it's pretty good, with weapons like the Coded Sword and spells like Triple Rings of Light as well as great Ashes of War. It's just that, particularly in the endgame, so many enemies/bosses resist Holy Damage quite heavily. Maliketh and Radagon/Elden Beast in particular have EIGHTY PERCENT HOLY DAMAGE NEGATION, that's straight-up unusable unless it's your only option in a challenge run. The only exceptions being the Black Knife's AoW, Maliketh's Black Blade AoW and the Incantation Black Blade, and even then those are are ONLY good for the DoT and HP debuff, not the actual Holy Damage.

It's disappointing they nerfed parry when they made it so much harder to do in this game; DS1 parrying was easy and effective, DS2 parrying wasn't as easy but kinda silly how long they stayed down, DS3 parrying was difficult but worth it if you got good, and now it's even harder and not even worth if for a lot of bosses; at least guard counters are a thing now like you said

Yeah, in DS1 the Heater Shield was arguably the best Shield in the game. It had AMAZING stability for its weight (the Stability of a maxed out Banished Knight Shield for 2.0 weight), but not only that it had the parry speed of the regular small shields. That shield alone made parrying worthwhile in DS1 as it wasn't just a good shield for parrying but a good Shield in general. But yeah, the fact that major bosses need to be parried several times just to land a critical kills my desire to parry, sure against lesser bosses it's worth it (Night's Cavalry), but even then I don't really parry, I'd rather be able to use my weapon skill of my main hand weapon instead.

I've never seen her breathe fire like the excellent Flame of the Redmanes Ash of War, in any form of media, but if you told me "oh yeah there's this one comic where she breathes fire", it'd be like telling me there's a Pokémon that eats people's souls. There's so many at this point, it's practically a safe bet.
