It depends on food imports and many of these come from America. China also needs a certain kind of high quality quartz that comes from one mine in North Carolina. This quartz is needed for semiconductor production. China depends on America for other products as well. The dependency you refer to cuts both ways.

America is a lot more self sufficient than China is where it counts. It's the largest exporter of food and oil. They also have some of the worlds largest deposits of resources needed for Microchips, the U.S. is also building new battery and computer manufacturing plants (right now they get a lot of chips from Taiwan), I think a long term trade war will hurt China a lot more than the US, but US customers might see price shoot up on certain things from China (electronics, toys, etc) but things like food and necessities, gas, energy will not go up for US consumers. Remember China has put high tariffs on US goods for years to persuade it's citizens to buy cheaper local goods.
