waterproof means you can have a swim in the river, had a storm coming, and then get yourself somewhere dry and start the flame. Normal matches will be too wet to start, but those will work fine.

To anyone claiming these are useless, usually you don’t just stand wide out in the open with your match. Bend over and protect the match from the rain, or if you’re in a wooded area, you already have protection. Even if it’s raining, small drops of rain won’t affect the flame. I’ve been camping for 16 years and those are my matches of choice. They burn longer and have a longer lasting scratch pad, with a tight seal to protect rain from harming the matches

i used to bury stormproof matches leaving just the striking part expose and the rest underground and then light them. It would make smoke rise up from out of the ground, but the ground cooled the smoke enough that it flowed like water along the ground. Highly recommend.
