I have been running Land Rover models for over fifteen years now, never been let down. Currently running the exact same model as you, same year, just 13k more miles. Tomorrow, four of us will drive way up into Scotland, regardless of the named storm, in comfort, and we'll do about 140 pmpg, driving it sensibly. If you want mpg, buy a passat.

@@Mts1980-v8y Pretty good until we got to about five miles from the church. Tyre issue not car capability, ice under deep snow on a steep hill, quite close to remote village called Fintry. Made it back down, went into Stirling and came into the village from the other end. No idea what it cost, but my passengers all agreed in their cars we'd never have made the service. And, they felt they were in luxury. Not always about cash.

You missed the S off the front. It is smiles per gallon. I have a Discovery 2, V8 petrol, I don't know what the fuel consumption is, but with it having a straight through exhaust it plays lovely music out of the back and I get lots of smiles per gallon. You should never let a diesel get low on fuel, especially in winter as you can get condensation in the tank which sttles as water in the filters and can freeze. You save nothing by keep putting a little bit in, in fact you probably use more keep stopping for fuel.

I am a great JLR fan to worry about affording the fuel for a Rangie is misleading. If you are on a tightish budget, fuel isn’t the main thing - I run a Jaguar F Pace SVR 5litre V8 550hp, fabulous car. It can actually turn 30mpg on a run if you stay legal - it’s only doing 1500 rpm at 70, but that isn’t the issue. You have to keep up with the maintenance on these types of cars. Oil alone is £140, tyres 1400 for 4 Pirelli’s. And if you skimp on maintenance you WILL get problems. Range Rovers particularly have got a reputation amongst the KZbin “experts” for having problems but most of this is because the vehicles featured are old and poorly maintained. One you are considering an elderly Rangie or Jag (or any older prestige car for that matter!) you will have a great car but just remember the purchase price is merely the down payment!

The engine is the AJ133 (after a bunch of preventative maintenance including chains, cooling system etc) is very simple and easy to live with. No turbo, no EGR, no Euro xyz crap. This week I drove a ford transit into Central London a run of just over 120 miles refilling it used less than 3 gallons/13lts (can't give exact figures as boss wanted receipt) an average of nearly 50mpg!! Admittedly traffic was unusually light. Under similar conditions a new LWB hightop SAIC transit actually got 49. 6mpg. 35mpg is a more normal figure under the right conditions start /stop really seems to save fuel.

Just want to edit this to add that my nine year old v70 does about 45 running around town with the odd twenty mile trip. 30 pound road tax. I have always used the super diesel because of low mileage, the mechanic told me to do that . Incidentally the old police Range Rovers in the seventies only did about 12 mpg on the motorway/or emergency., and thats straight from the traffic man who drove it. They went to the Discovery later.

Sorry for the daft question…people here mention road tax…is that registration ? Here in NZ diesel is 1.70 a litre, you will also spend $80 for every 1000km (620 miles) in what we call road users (for all diesels, not petrol, and they wonder why freight is so dear 🤪), but registration once a year is from $125 to $200 dollars (approx 90£. So our 1.70 diesel x 4.5 to your gallon, and x2.2 ish for your pound, plus road users plus rego. Are we worse off or you ?

People who move to the country buy these big gas guzzling tractors which can turn over even at low speed as Prince Philip found out much to his surprise. They are useless in towns and villages. The country lanes are not suitable for those big gas guzzlers real country folk drive small vehicles which are far more useful on country lanes.

How can you filling your tank get expensive for you? All you're doing is reducing the amounts of visits to the garage but still getting the same use from the car. If anything, you're reducing your costs and reducing the chances of running out and causing damage.

How much has your car depreciated in a year?
@stevecarr3019
@stevecarr3019 Ай бұрын
@@stevel9914 Understood, but you didn't take my point. In fact you're missing the point completey. By the way depreciation over a Range Rover over 4 years from new is similar to a Q4 at around 58%, a quick google will tell you that. However for myself I was spending around £145 a month on petrol and £470 a year on VED. That's over £2200 a year. £8800 over 4 years, I'm now spending £580 over a 4 year period albeit I will have VED to pay next year, that's 15 times less than I was spending over the same time period. I'm not unduly worried about the depreciation because its on a PCP, so the dealer will have to take the hit not me. There's very rarely anything left in a cars value at the end of a PCP. If you're happy enough to run around in a car that cost £5k five years ago that's entirely up to you especially as your probably getting

@@stevecarr3019 for the moment but you've taken a massive hit for the moment ... and ev's will be taxed much the same as any other car next year. I'll wager that you're running it on a business account and when they remove your tax write off... and they will very shortly ... ev's won't look anywhere near as good from an economic point of view compared to an equivalent new car of any other sort. It's all coming and we're only a decade into the ev programme and that's being kind.

It is not bad at all considering the size of the car. The 2007 diesel Tuareg my father has will do even worse, by large, and my 2021 skoda superb 280 petrol is slightly better, like marginally better.

I would not touch a Land Rover with a barge pole. I used to work in Scotland, building oil platforms. When the Yanks arrived on the Moray Firth, they bought a fleet of LR's and one by one, they failed. Moving over to Datsuns, they could not break these phenomenally reliable vehicles. LR's are over hyped, overpriced Mug Bait!
