Paid 100k for my boat. It has to be detailed after using. I do that myself. When it has electrical issues (why? moisture, I guess) I have to take it to a guy. Usually it's something stupid but costs me a few hundred +/-. Ding in the gelcoat? Another couple/ few hundred. 100hr = $500+/- Fuel= $300+ depends Boat ramp fees vary. Trailer maintenence is going to happen and costs $500+ It's ALL worth it. A lot of it can be done yourself and save $.

If you want to part time boat/ fish? Get a small used trailerable boat under 20 feet. It gets a lot more expensive otherwise.

0:06 anyone can afford a boat but you gotta know the kind of boat you need vs. what you can handle. A under 30' "Cape"/"fishing" style boat, very easy maintenance, but storage and transport might be an issue but with inboard straight shaft, are the cheapest most economical of boats to own

I did purchase a dealership new boat 20 years ago, and the price was much more reasonable than today. I still have it, and everything from day one was done by me. Since then, I have only purchased used. Yes, I own a few. The new prices are even out of my reach, and I have been blessed with a great income. I hope they drop in the future but it is not likely.

It’s not any more expensive than a car. Especially if you trailer it and hose it off with freshwater every time. Maintenance was way less then a car I had a new Parker 2120 cabin fishing boat. It was awesome.

If you try to go new it's brutally expensive today. If you can't turn a wrench or are not willing to learn how to repair and maintain your own boat forget it. I've never worked on boats until I bought mine. So far I've been restoring it myself. It is nerve racking taking a conical metal bur and routing out cracks in gelcoat 😂 but I bought some awesome materials that have made filling in the removed cracks way easier than I thought. I have a couple lows that Ill be going over again but I'm confident I can wet sand it back to perfect shape. Bought waxed and unwaxed gelcoat. I'll be rolling and tipping the top of the boat after then comes more wet sanding and buffing. Lot of work but all of that only cost me $150.00 for material and a few bouts of dehydration and exhaustion 😂.

modern boats are insane in cost. having worked for Everglades and Boston Whaler i can tell you they're operating costs are also insane. just the monthly electric bill would blow your mind. if a 30' ish boat cost 300k now subtract for the motors..probably 3-4 300's at 30k+ each. so say 90-120k in motors, another 5--10k for navionics / electronics, 5-10k for interior. after that stuff your boat is 5k per foot bow to stern. which seems logical to the cost of mfg per ln foot. while writing this it made me think of my old boat. just glassed a new floor into it on saturday. boats of today wont have that issue, no wood and 100% molded fiberglass everywhere. the boats built today...when aged will be far superior to the boats of yesteryear when brand new. which also means that used prices will never get to the lows they are at now. so when my kids grow up and get on fb marketplace looking for a used boat i doubt they'll find a cheap one. but the quality of the used boat market in 20 years will be outstanding. i wonder what a 2024 18' will cost in 20 years.
@crank14225 ай бұрын
I don’t think it’s “Too” expensive. I just purchased a 20 year old Mastercraft in phenomenal condition with 575 hours on it for $15,000. The original price was around $50,000. Just like with the golf clubs reference, a set of Ping clubs used by a PGA tour pro would cost you $5000-$6000. However, wait 3-4 years and that becomes $1200 really quick. It’s the same with boating, it’s just the amount of cash you may need to have disposable may need to be more because banks typically don’t finance a vessel over 10 years old. That doesn’t mean the boat is garbage. It just means you as the consumer need to go in 100% focused on the type of boat, the condition of the boat, and the length of time you plan to own the boat. I can guarantee you there are boats at your local marina that are 5 times older than the average car on the road today. A good boat with proper maintenance will hold its value 100 times greater than a car. To me, that’s value. But I love being on the water way more than I love being on the road or a golf course. So to me, it’s not too expensive.

Is it bad if im looking for least amount of hours? What is too high or is the such thing as too low? We are in denver and cant see the boats till i move there. Using web to learn as much as i can

Awesome! Glad to hear it William! No, those are all nice boats, I like that Key West 219 the most out of all of them :) but at 2019-2022, all those are going to have 4-strokes on them, probably a 150 to 200 HP. So any will be good, fine Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, no issues. I doubt that most will have too many hours. For those years, most will probably be under 500 hours, which won't be a concern. The 150's are one of the most reliable engines for all those brands :)

@@TheBoatersPodcast the yamaha 150 is pretty “bulletproof” eh? I have really kept my eye peeled for a KW 203fs as well. I am also looking to use the boat within the indian river from time to time. Trying to take that into consideration

Purchased a new bassboat back in 1999 for 14k, same boat today is priced at 80k. No justification for that much of a price hike. Bassboat market is just dumb, you can thank all of these tournaments and clubs for this. The market saw an uptick and capitalized on it. These prices will not come down till consumers put pressure on manufactures. That being said I couldn't justify 80k for a Bassboat so 2017 purchased a Center Console (twice the boat) for 65k, that same exact boat is now 98k. Same situation, Center Console market exploded within the last 6 years so manufactures jacked the prices to match demand. As consumers, we shot ourselves in the foot on realistic prices. But, in a few years, I will be purchasing a 28ft Center Console so, I will most likely be spending my last dime for what I want. I will complain about that purchase too, lol 😆

If you live on the ocean and we are talking about a 28' or 32' 200K used boat, you could spend $2-4K a month to operate maintain and store the boat
