Can You Beat Black Myth: Wukong with Only Magic?

Magic may be all around us, and it may be a massive part of the story of Wukong, but it certainly doesn't do as much heavy lifting in the game based on it as I'd hope. Between long cooldowns and longer fights, this stands as but a glimpse of my Journey to the West. Please just ignore that I started here.
Simply put, the bonk stick was not allowed for the run. Transformations, spells, spirits, and vessels would make our damage. All fun to use. None all that incredible by themselves. With the exception of glitches, the goal was to bring down all bosses, because I can/could.

So, with the 'non' bosses in chapter 3, they are meant to be dark mirrors of the group that went on the Journey to the West. The horse's name in Journey to the West is basically White Loong. His counter in the Non bosses is Non-white. That is assuming I've understood Journey to the West and the names of characters correctly.

Yeah it is a play on the names. Yellowbrow wanted to win against Tang monk, so he named his disciples 'non' to whoever counterpart they were.

If you like the gourd steal enough, its also avoidable if you roll right after drinking, he will do a 180 rotation before stealing. Also, the trigger condition is 3 drinks within 60 seconds

26:28 about the airborne dragon.. you are basically forced to use pillar stance against this boss if you want to have an easy time since the heavy attack is a large vertical hit which will almost always hit the dragon. And if the heavy attack is fully charged, it always either staggers or knocks down the dragon.

I found Yin Tiger’s Windwalker ability to be extremely potent. Considering you can block and negate damage until you have the focus to cast it, you retain a lot of might for use in the following stagger DPS fest.

Yeah, Zhu Bajie’s mud arena reduces dodge speed by like 30%, doesn’t affect sprinting though, you are correct. Also my first Spuddy video, got quite a few laughs out of me, earned a like and looking forward to watching more of your stuff!

The Scorch shot "attack" when you're the giant Monkey is a passive one. Wish the game kinda informs you of passive spells, but the fact that there are only 2 passive spells period with one bein' in this fight and another in NG+, I guess I kind of see the reason why they wouldn't say anythin' about it.

It's so funny that people get confused by Scorch Shower on the hidden boss fight, it tells you to consume focus to cast it... so use your focus points on anything and it automatically casts

Fun fact the prolog isn't even the first time sun wukong has 1v10000000 the armies of heaven there's a reason a lot of anime draws inspiration from journey to the west

As far as I'm aware, Sun Wukong is one of the first incredibly overpowered protagonists to become widely popular, and a lot of the stories based around them are best enjoyed with the brain thoroughly turned off. So the parallels are pretty loud and clear.

Like I can't afford it at the moment but my experiences with therapy in middle and high school has helped me cope with the ptsd I developed from the emotional abuse from my step parents(yeah beyond each other my parents apparently both have bad taste in partners....) so much better than I would have without it. Even if your life and everything is going perfectly, therapy can help you learn how to cope for when it isn't! A very helpful life skill that tbh is actually NOT taught as much as people think, especially with how individual coping skills are.

The wind tamer did bring the loong down with damage, the wind tamer simply hard stagger everything, also the debuff in the prison literally double your attack so its actually super useful in a normal playthrough XD

A lot of the bosses he complained about just suck in general, flying with no chance to hit, terrible hit boxes. For myself I am trying to play the game the way it wants, building up focus… get 4 bars, unleash and Whiff. Half the time causing a death because it was suppose to be a death blow or a stagger at least and then getting pummelled. Still though great game

For anyone having issues locating the required boss fights in Chapter 6, just look for where its thundering & those are the location of all the required bosses you need to defeat for the required items you need to continue to the last boss. Hope this helps anyone lost on Chapter 6. Edit: 😮😮😮I never knew Erlang had a tranformation & I fought him for a whole day. Lol.

I fully understand why they didn't do it, but it would have been kind of funny if the true ending was locked behind beating the final boss eight times. Why? Because Sun Wukong, the cheeky over-the-top little shit that he is, has made himself immortal seven times over, including but not limited to: - Striking his name out of the book of the dead after being abducted into the afterlife and causing enough of a ruckus to scare the shit out of the kings of the dead - Eating all peaches of immortality after being made the master of their garden, then drinking the wine of immortality - Being locked into a special brazier for extended periods of time because they were trying to boil the immortality out of him so they could execute him, but surviving the ordeal and instead having the mortality cooked out of him instead From what I understand, Sun Wukong as a character also is a metaphor representing the raw intellect, ingenuity and ambition, but not the wisdom, or the human mind. He's one of several characters featuring in Journey in the West and each of the characters represents one aspect of humanity, so that collectively, they form a complete human in all of its aspects.

about the last area. all the areas you need to go to for armor has ligtning striking down that place. the pig guy where you fight the mantis has a giant tree with a different color than the rest. and the mantis makes a sound you wont miss throughout you traveling to those places. all though what you need to do with isnt conveyed. and pig dude tells you about the waterfall and where it is. so unless you skip dialogue that shouldn't be a problem either

i have a hunch about the Drink stealing. my guess is (as i had encounters in his second phase where i could heal and other times where he snatched it) that it is tied to an "amount used" mechanic. i think every second or third time you try to heal he will snatch it.

I always go back and forth on how much of that sort of thing to keep. In the case of this run, the main two spider fights were both done on the first try without much fuss. Generally, I'll try harder to keep things in if they're more impactful to the experience, but their main contributions were "ew, gross! Spiders!" The final boss of the chapter for instance was looking like a brick wall before we found the needle. Also thank you very much!

10:34 you complain how your not allowed to teleport outside of boss fights and how it’s annoying that Wu Kong doesn’t “respect you as a player” for this. I ask you, how many games let you just give up mid boss fight? I feel a lot of your gripes with the game aren’t faults with the gameplay and rather things you wishes were better about your challenge run. You complain about hit boxes on transformation being funky, yet your example is the first Transformation of the game. And being able to give up easy only benefits you because of the Challenge run, the game was design to give you multiple fun ways to defeat a boss. When you yourself limit your abilities, you gotta bite the bullet when the combat doesn’t favor your fighting style. It’s an enjoyable video, I just wished you were more prepared for the challenge to not be fun, since your not playing as intended.

Hi, hello, how's it going. The criticism wasn't a run specific issue, it was a gameplay issue. Dying and TPing away is literally the same thing. You can teleport out of some bosses but not others, which doesn't make much sense. Respecting the players time is something that should always be thought of during game development. Also, criticizing hitboxes being bad isn't a bad thing? Like, just cause its the first ability of the game, doesn't mean it should be *broken*, which bad hitboxes can be. That also isn't a run specific issue, anyone using that transformation will have the same issue. If they bring up a critique about it, will you also say "you just want the game to be easier" when, in fact, they want the game to fix issues.
