Can You Beat Devil May Cry 3 Without Styles or Upgrades?

You know, despite saying that I'd be trying to go consistent with my uploading and all that, I have a feeling 'consistently' uploading every other month isn't the type of thing most people would expect upon hearing that... Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed (or are enjoying) the video! As per usual, any suggestions given are extremely great to hear, and I'd love to try putting whatever is given to the test! Truthfully, I'd like to try streaming a lot more often as to let me expand my content selection and availability with what I do, and being able to use that time to try out ideas given by anyone here seems like something I'd love to do. Now, I can't really guarantee anything since I have a problem with appearing and then disappearing for awhile, but I'm really going to at least *try*. Hopefully. Also, just as a small side note, I gave a longer explanation originally as to why I didn't do yellow orb mode, but I ended up redacting that as it was going on for way too long and, honestly, I feel as if the current one is already longer than it needed to be but hopefully it somehow manages to get the general idea out there. But, basically, I thought that since it was an edited video and not, say, a stream, the purpose of it becomes not as useful as much of the actual recording parts would be taken out in order to put the actual important segments together. If I do stream DMC3 at some point, it's likely I will do yellow orb mode, but as to whether or not I actually use the orbs will depend on if I can use red orbs or not. Also, also, I'm not for sure, but I may do the previous thing where I do post an unedited recording of the entire playthrough in the playlist I have like before, but given that the file size is massive, I'm unsure if I will actually upload it all or just decide to call it off and just delete it as to get my file space back so I can go back to recording with some leeway. If people ask why my recordings are so big, my excuse is that I really, really like high quality video so I have a problem with having a massive bitrate with what I do. It is rather inefficient at times, though... Hey outta curiosity, would the move 'wild stomp' invalidate the rules? It's a gunslinger exclusive move but instead of using the style action button it's preformed by mashing the 'shoot' button near a downed enemy with Ebony & Ivory equipped.

@@Arcana_zero_studios that's actually a really good question tbh. though, i never knew that move was actually something from gunslinger specifically. i could be wrong, but i swore that it can be executed even without gunslinger being active. and because of this, i'd say that it is allowed, but it's definitely in some sort of grey area. i'd probably have to research the interactions with it more, but thanks for mentioning this regardless!

@@SquaredNull I looked in the 'file' menu and saw it was placed under the gunslinger move list. Maybe it's because it's a 'crazy combo' move?

any dmc game without stinger just feels extremely weird and I felt just abysmal every time I needed to get to an enemy. like, if I could use styles at least I could just trickster to them. but no, I have to run a marathon between all enemies. help D:

@@SquaredNull It's so dang akward.. Even Vergil does it better with his first stinger on DMC 3.. It's like tiny but it feels so much better than whatever they tried to do with DMC 2.. I grew up with DMC 1, 2 and 3 and i just could not grasp on their logic.

for my first playthrough i didn't fully realize you COULD upgrade your abilities, so i went thru all the way until... i think the beowulf vergil fight, without a single upgraded ability. still love the game even tho i fucked it up bigtime.

i honestly love first playthroughs of games. especially with older games, since i personally feel like i'm so used to the quality of life features that new ones have, it's as if you sometimes miss important features and it creates a janky, albeit unique, way of playing the game. i love hearing stories like this, so ty for mentioning it!

the game honestly just feels like it doesn't work right without stinger. like, sure, agni and rudra have their rush combo that lets you run forwards, but it's not even close to the speed that stinger has. really hoping whatever I do next lets me use it...

There is a way to stun those angels, damn near every time. When they lower themselves to take a single swipe at you, use hightime (?). The move that has you basically uppercut enemies with rebellion. They go into a stun state, and, its been a minute since i played, but their shield should also break, or become secretly damaged. Dont know the validity of it, as it was only replicatable in one play through with near 100% success, as far as i remember since noticing it, i think its timing is similar to you perfectly blocking the attack. Anyways, figured i'd drop a chain of comments to help out with getting you noticed, if only a little.

honestly, getting any sort of advice towards dealing with them consistently helps a ton since they're kind of the bane of my existence compared to every other enemy in the game (not counting the funny skating bow things). i'll probably make use of it and test out to see how well it works in future playthroughs, though. also, ty for all of the comments you have left! hearing stuff from others on how to optimize things is great to hear, and it also gives others who may decide to scroll through everything some advice as well. thanks again :D

Not only you can, but many people have beaten DMD difficulty with SS ranks in all missions (meaning no damage among other things) without any style use or upgrade :) I'm currently doing that challenge but stuck on mission 7

basically, but technically the order of it doesn't matter. as long as those specific three are done in any order, the entire segment can be left. obv this changes if you're going for the blue orb fragment as that requires a full completion of all of the bosses but i didn't do that this time around.

yeah, it's basically that. unfortunately since jump cancelling is just *that* good in dmc3, it's hard to avoid using it with stuff like agni & rudra and beowulf. if i do another dmc3 challenge, i likely will avoid doing it all, but i wanted to at least do it here to showcase it to those unfamiliar.

@@SquaredNull I think a style-only run would be interesting. No attacking, shooting, maybe not even jumping. only the style button. Or maybe you can attack and shoot if you have Trickster active but you can't dodge or jump without the various Trick skills. For Dante in 4 and 5 it's probably a lot easier since you can switch styles but still would be an odd way to play. I also think trying to see how many secret missions are possible would be fun for these challenges

@@velvetbutterfly style only stuff is a pretty nice idea to try at some point. dmc3 would be a bit awkward since stuff like trickster can't do damage normally, and royal guard is limited to that entire gimmick it has, but the others would be interesting to mess with. technically, if i were to play on the switch version, there would be style switching without mods but i'd rather not play on a completely different version just for the sake of that. maybe, anyway. regardless, i should try to add in some bits involving secret missions just for the sake of it, as i typically skip them most of the time due to them being mostly optional content (with the exception of dmc2 since i thought i'd need more health for that stuff). whatever i do for dmc4 will likely be a bit strange due to the two character thing going on with the game, but it should be fun to figure out some sort of hybridized challenge. ty for the ideas, though!

Always good to see a new video from you, Null. This one was as top-tier as always and I can't wait to get even more videos of this quality from you. As for a schedule, that's yours to decide in the end and you should really upload at your own comfortable pace than try to meet what you might see as a standard. What works for one KZbinr doesn't work for all of them, after all. Anyway, glad to see you're not done with Devil May Cry yet and I hope we get a video on my favourite relatively soon, that being DMC4, though I don't really have a challenge idea for it off the top of my head. Maybe a No Upgrades run or a Royal Guard only run? Iunno, I'm sure there's much smarter people than me that could help out with that :). As for being a singular member, I'm 100% sure that'll change soon enough, your content's great and only promises to get even better as time goes on. Just keep on keeping on, Null, always very happy to see you do more stuff and relax more with each video. :)

thank you so much! seriously, it still means a ton to me whenever you do comment on my videos :D while i do have to say that i really want to work towards a better posting time and actually getting stuff out more often, i really can't guarantee it unfortunately, but your affirmations do help me realize that taking time is fine so long as the end product is enjoyable for everyone. dmc4 is going to be quite a thing to work with. while i do plan on doing a playthrough with dante/nero for my main vid on it, i still will have to do something regarding lady/trish as well as vergil too. whatever i do for my main thing is still a bit unknown on my end, but i have a few general ideas sitting around. and maybe i'll keep that royal guard idea in mind at least (i really want to try it...) i'm still really glad to have your continued support, and i hope that everything i put out going forwards is as enjoyable as this video and the previous content. thank you again :)

unfortunately, i wasn't playing on dmd since i'm not some god-tier player with dmc3. i only had the difficulty set to hard to imitate what a 'first playthrough' of the original game would be like (minus the yellow orb thing because arbitrary reasons i guess).
