Fun fact 1, the German soldiers' uniforms were made by Hugo Boss. Fun fact 2, the STG 42 was issued as a submachine gun, Adolf H. wasn't a big fan of assault rifles. Good video and your pronunciation for the assault rifle ( Sturmgewehr ) is almost perfect.

Importantly, Hugo Boss manufactured some of the uniforms (among other suppliers) he didn’t design them which is the common myth. The StG wasn’t actually really issued as an MP, it was only a matter of designation. You never see MP (which could include various German and captured SMG variants) and MP44 used interchangeably. When the StG was issued, it was done to whole squads replacing both the MP (usually only carried by the squad leader), and bolt action rifles, and the machine guns. These other weapons were kept in dedicated long ranges support squads while the StG was meant to close in. So the StG was always meant to be used differently to all the preceding SMGs, it was just given a variety of other names before they settled on assault rifle.

The Avtomat Federov would be never ever an Assault Rifle, because it doesn't fire a Intermediate cartridge like the MKb 42 (H) and (W), MP43/MP44/STG44, AK platform, etc., it fires a full sized Rifle Catridge. Every Rifle who self loads an full sized Rifle Catridge like the Avromat Federov, M1 Garand, M14, G3, FN FAL, G41 (M) and (W), G43, etc., is an Battle Rifle. The requirements for an Battle Rifle is it must an full sized Rifle Catridge and it must self load it by an Gas Piston or an Recoil Operating System. An Assault Rifle must fire an Intermediate cartridge, Caliber it selfs doesn't really matters, the Catridge lenght is what it made it to that. The Catridge must be shorter than by an Rifle Catridge. Ian McCollum from Forgotten Weapons made an entire Video about it.

@@tnoomsk5897 it is a matter of debate for sure, for instance the 6.5x50mm arisaka round the fedorov uses is smaller than the standard ammo for the Russian army (7.62x54), though for Japan it was a full size cartridge so it’s treading the grey zone; since according to wiki, it does “technically” fulfill the requirement of intermediate cartridge. Because of this I debated wether I’d include it in the video, but I figured that the point I was trying to make, was that attempts had been made at building an assault rifle as far back as ww1 (if you count the cei-Rigotti then 1890!). I hope you accept my reasoning for me calling it an AR.

Actually there was another rifle before the Fedorov Avtomat and that was the Cei-Rigotti which was created twenty years before the Fedorov Avtomat, making it the first actual assault rifle, though like you said, it never really saw extensive use and only about three hundred were made

Sorry to be that guy but the federov avtomat was not an assault rifle. It stilled used a full sized (although slightly less powerful) rifle cartridge called the 6.5 arisaka. It was in reality more akin to the Bar and later M14 than anything close to the later AK’s and M16 style of rifles.

The Fedorov Avtomat was not even a proto-AR, it was a full auto battle rifle. Battle Rifles are chambered for full-length rifle rounds and have full auto capability, Fedorov was chambered for a full-length rifle round, the 6.5x50mmSR Arisaka and had the full auto ability. Assault rifles use intermediate caliber rounds and have full auto capability. The only true proto-ARs were the STG-44's prototypes itself, the Mkb.42 (W) and Mkb. 42 (H).
