I think for Bryce Anders you can only save him if you bluff your way in and stealth make it to him. Every time that I've tried to bull through he dies, but that could just be me and my mods too.

He's still very much around and posted 10 minutes ago on twitter. It sounds like he's got a Fallout 4 video that he's been spending the better part of a year making as part of a challenge run and has been running into roadblocks in-game that are hard to overcome.

I did find out that if you sit there perpetually changing your ammo anyone trying to initiate dialog can't do it in the middle of your reloading
