It’s insane how much he hates stubborn roots 😭 It effectively gives you 20% more hp for extreme deadline. 20% more hp from when demeter appeared would be at least 50 hp… which is equal and more to cerby keepsake 😭

It's especially frustrating here, since his main logic for not taking Stubborn Roots is usually that it doesn't play nice with Tight Deadline, and it's not impactful enough outside of trying to cheese at low Heat. Both of those points mean less here, since he's constantly taking damage from Tight Deadline anyway, and regen could give a lot of health back like you said. Fishing for the Athena legendary was still probably the best play either way

stubborn only activates after you have no Stubborn D, so over an entire room it's not like you're getting that 20%, it's more like 10% or more if you started off with full HP (it would be some sort of weighted average) but the chance to lose out on Athena's legendary because of one more Duo that could be offered is not unimportant Also, if you lose SD and activate stubborn roots that's good for SD, but if you keep an SD in the next room then the Stubborn Roots doesn't help anyways. You would be playing to survive instead of playing to win :P

@@kochathefat327 haven’t played in a couple months, nourished soul is the one that makes you heal more, correct? If so, then they kinda stack. You don’t actually heal MORE with Roots, but IIRC you heal faster (like 1 Hp every .7 seconds instead of 1 per second or whatever the numbers are)

How would that have helped here? he got killed with a 70 damage attack when he had 30 hp left, and as others have said SR is maybe a 10% health boost since it only activates after losing all your defiances (including skelly's tooth). So in the best case scenario he would have had like 20 more hp? maybe? and still died. If you're so sure that it would work I really recommend trying the mod yourself. But to claim that it would've saved him here is pretty silly IMO. More damage is almost always gonna be better (as evidenced by this run, where if he had a tiny bit more DPS he would've won).

7:56 you're correct, taking darkness as a room reward (so like, the reward on the door when you're choosing which room to enter next) is the only darkness that gives max health, anything else doesn't (including Charon's Wells, Troves, etc.)

@@SuperDestroyerFox I doubt it, collar only gives 25 health with GY (and only 20 health with cursed slash). It's also important to remember that charging the spin takes a couple seconds each time, so that would slow you down significantly. But maybe try it out yourself! I tried the mod and got to Lernie with beowulf, probably gonna do some more attempts soon.

Damn you were so close, why not use Guan Yu so you can just constantly replenish the health being lost? Or using Zag sword with flurry slash and cursed slash? I realize the latter would be hard to do because of the rng on the hammers(could always seed the run) but I feel as though Guan Yu would probably be the best option otherwise.

neither guan yu or zag cursed doesnt replenish health fast enough, i dont think, esp with the downside of lowered health affecting both heals and defiance, decent idea tho

You get 1 health back from hitting an enemy with a spin attack on Guan Yu, it's just not worth going with over an aspect that reliably deals far more damage, more quickly. Would probably lose 10 health just getting the spin out there. Cursed Slash is a bit more doable but still has the same issue (we tried it in the past, was meh). It's too bad really because abusing health regen for a run like this sounded fun and unique but in practice it didn't work as well as just going for damage to get through fights more quickly. Oh well.
