Agreed. One of the better mods I've played has been pokemon Double Emerald. It's all double battles and they fix sooo much with the game. Remove evolution by trade, TMs are multi use, dev tries to remove hm reliance, difficulty is amped up but isn't kaizo levels of nonsense but fair and legit progression (Stevens family above mawhile have competitive teams like the grandma has a blissy and gengar), the gym leaders have full teams and have type coverage (ie: watson being electric type and ground types destroying them he has a lanturn to cover that weakness. First gym Roxanne has a crawdilly for grass moves and Ominite for water moves. It's rad) and the do smart things too. The first market right before the first route abra is available you can buy the taunt tm so you can actually catch it since in a double battle you have to faint one of the pokemon to catch the other one and taunt stops abra from teleporting. Also there's two version, 193 and 386. 193 is emerald only pokemon while 386 has all the pokemon up to gen 3. Also dev includes moves up to whatever gen fairy type was included. Plus his free starter you get is an Eevee and it evolves only by stones gifted in Dewford town. So dusk stone for Umbreon now not friendship at night for example. Game is super good and something hard to nuzzlock but a lot of fun to try. Havnt managed to beat it yet

Do you Set mode when you do these challenges with multiple pokemon? If not you should cause it adds another level of challenge when you can't swap pokemon after fainting one I didn't think it would make a big difference when I tried it, but not being able to switch to counter the coming poke and having to switch giving them a free hit really does add some challenge

For those of you who want to play this hack, here's my opinion on the first starter on the pokemon center. Aron is the best one (short answer) (long answer) Aron's typing gives it a massive advantage already (Rock and Steel), so it can resist almost every type, you just gotta watch out for ground type, water types and fighting types. For the Brendan fight, Aron should be used to chip away at Mudkips health a bit and then switch to Growlithe to bite him to death. Mudkip's Mud Slap is only 2x super effective against Growlithe, unlike Aron which is 4x super effective. You should try to get counters for the 3 main types you're sure to encounter a lot in the early game, especially when you're an actual cop. Taillow is obligatory, although Ralts is an alternative for the fighting type counter (still need a birb for Fly and all that, i do recommend getting a zigzagoon cuz HM slave and stuff). Shroomish and Breloom are excellent counters against the ground/water types you will encounter (although any other grass/water/ice/electric pokemon will also work but grass is the better option in my opinion) I also suggest you grind a bit, if you don't, you will get rekt by early game bossfights such as the admins and gym leaders. Aron evolves at lvl 32, then again at 44, so once you evovle him, while he gets slower, he gets better moves as well, especially when he becomes an Aggron. I also recommend keeping Growlithe because early game fire type and also Arcanine is one of the best fire types in Hoenn (there's also Ninetales, but you get Growlithe earlier so yeah.) An optimal team would be: Aggron Arcanine Swellow (obligatory) Breloom (status effects+double counter against Arcanine's and Aggron's weaknesses) Any good water type you can find Gardevoir (optional, really just a physic pokemon in case Swellow dies and you need a counter against a fighting type) And any other pokemon you think would be useful. (Sorry for any mistakes) (edit: A dark/bug type is useful against any physic types you may encounter, especially Wally's team, a bug type is optimal because it takes care fo both dark and physic types, which spares you a team slot and means you wont need a fighting type for Xandra's Umbreon and the shartloads of Mightyena you'll encounter. For Xandra's legendaries, Celebi and Entei get rekt by Aggron and Arcanine, and you can just have your other mons beat up Lugia (Jirachi is steel so it gets rekt by Arcanine (I think) and I also recommend an ice type for dragons and ground types). Also if you want the moves then ask and I'll try to think of some good moves these guy's could have

Yeah, no. The best one of the 3 starters you get to choose from at the pokemon center is Zangoose. It only has one weakness, has a much wider moveset, and it learns swords dance at fricking level 10. Besides, who the heck is crazy enough to use a pokemon who's weak to water in Hoenn? I mean, ofc, unless it's a fire type, cause fire types are essential to have in a team despite that weakness. But also, with both Aron and Growlithe that's already 2 mon weak to water, which isn't good, given that in this game you fight team Aqua a lot, and there's a fight against Kyogre too, when Wally challenges you with the weather trio. Like, also Aron takes sooooo long to evolve, you'll have to be dragging an Aron and then Lairon for most of the playthrough, and it has two different x4 weaknesses (ground and fighting). I'm playing this game, and currently my team consists of: Zangoose, Arcanine, Nidoqueen, Gardevoir, Breloom and Azumarill. I know Azumarill kind of sucks in gen 3 but it's decent enough if you take time to train it, and it's decently bulky too. And they're doing great so far.
