Once you play pokemon at 4x speed it becomes so incredibly painful to go back to normal speed, especially in a game like this where you can't even turn off animations. Major props for this grind

I usually have the patience for the normal game speed. It only becomes tedious when the game doesn't react for a long time to the attacks or items I've selected. That's been a problem since the 6th generation though. I select an attack, the selection menu disappears (so the game has definitely registered it) and then I'm sitting there waiting for what feels like five minutes watching as the camera circles my Pokemon, zooms in at the opponent, zooms in on my trainer, circles around both Pokemon, shows both Pokemon on a split screen, zooms in on my Pokemon, before it FINALLY uses the attack or item I selected. I first thought that was just the case with the 3DS games because my 3DS was getting old by that point and probably slower - but then Sword did the same on a new Switch. Those are the times when I really wish I could just speed the game up.

Honestly, not having Will o Wisp on Arcanine during the Hassel fight was definitely a blessing in disguise- Baxcalibur has Thermal Exchange which makes it immune to burns and raises its attack which means that you would have made it hit even harder

Also haunter dying in the Atticus fight was good. If he gave it black sludge, it would've healed. Lol.

I think the idea of NPC's pokemon holding items is so good! Like I want players to run into some random lady with a Blunder Policy, Hypnosis Drowzee that either sleeps you or starts outspeeding you the next turn if it misses. Neat little strats like that, it would give GF a great excuse to show off some gillicks and interactions that they spent a ton of energy building into the battle system but not showing us.

Actually really good that haunter *didn't* trick on the black sludge. The Navi Starmobile is poison type, so it would heal it instead. Also, surprised that Cacturne didn't make appearances during the starmobile fights. Spiky shield is good damage against them.

Fun fact: even though wooper is a ground/poison in this gen you can still find them with the water absorb ability so that water moves heal them instead of hurting

yeah I'm 30 minutes in the video and I don't understand why jrose isn't changing the abilities of the Pokémon when they could have a more helpful one - for example he said he wished he had Mabostiff with intimidate vs the 6th gym leader. You don't need to get a new mon, just use an ability capsule, they're pretty easy to find

Breaking down all the weird immunities that the Starmobiles had was insane and Tricking a Black Sludge onto to it was an incredibly clever strategy. I wanna try this with Grafaiai, a Poison/Normal type with access to not only Switcheroo, but Prankster to give it priority and Parting Shot to drop stats. The only tricky part would be beating a 3 star Tera Raid, which might still be doable given how flexible the game is

It's very doable. A good support mon can carry the AI through a raid. Screens, Helping Hand, Life Dew or Pollen Puff, abilities like Friend Guard and Healer. Etc etc. Probably easier than the rest of the run would be lol

Screech/metal sound or fake tears. 3 star would be a non issue. Aside from that just use a tanky mon with protect/roost or something. You could support AI through a 5 star.

One thing to consider also is to use Gravity because it would make it so flying and levitate pokemon can be hit hy spikes/toxic spikes. It is a TM now since the DLC came out so it has wider distribution.

Would have been interesting to see how much easier this would be in the event that you could catch a Ferroseed. Ferrothorn is the best anti-NPC wall by far, perhaps the best anti-NPC pokémon period. A Protect, Iron Defense, Rest, and Flex move (spikes, toxic, substitute, etc.) set with rocky helmet is so potent. It's basically unkillable as long as you can read fire moves. And of course you had a Flash Fire user, so yeah, Ferrothorn would have definitely solved this run much easier.

As someone else that did a Status Moves Only playthrough of Scarlet, I'm so glad to see this. Finding out first hand that the Starmobiles are immune to everything I had, including stalling their PP until Struggle, (They have infinite PP!) didn't work wasn't a fun moment. I figured out Sandstorm might work when Entry Hazards worked because it wasn't directly using a move against them and they blocked every Status Move I could use on them. I'm shocked Trick works on Starmobiles. I thought every Status Move failed against them! Even Worry Seed failed! (After Magic Guard in other games, I like having Worry Seed or Gastro Acid for emergencies.) Fun Fact: Perish Song still affects your Pokemon even though it doesn't affect the Starmobile. Also, The AI in SV doesn't switch because of Perish Song any more. (I was using Altaria because it's my favorite Pokemon and I thought gaining Will-O-Wisp in SV was going to be its biggest buff.)

I agree, I wish the Paradox Pokemon had placeholder names like the Ultra Beasts and then got actual names (especially since Brute Bonnet could have been Ungabungus, lol). I understand the mystery aspect, and I'm okay with Type: Null having the name it does since you can nickname it/it gets a name upon evolving, but how come only Koraidon and Miraidon get to have a placeholder and official name? Great run, these Pacifist Challenges are some of my favorites to watch!

Yeah, those Starmobiles being flat out immune to stuff really sucks. It caught me out during just a normal run too 'cause I kept trying to do literally anything to cripple them and it just never worked out. Kinda frustrating 'cause it makes them more "spam attack to win" kind of fights instead of allowing for other strategies.

I'm sad that Haunter fainted before Tricking the Black Sludge onto the Poison Starmobile. I wanted to hear your reaction when it started healing. Protect's success rate is 3^(-n), where n is the number of times you've successfully used Protect or an equivalent effect in a row. So, you have a 1/3 chance of success on the 2nd and a 1/9 chance on the 3rd. It's Glaive Rush, not Glavine Rush. Not sure where you got the n.

ALso, challenge idea: Play Red & Blue (or any pair) SIMULTANEOUSLY using the same inputs. You'll have a really hard time synchronizing the games, but that's the challenge.

The "Glaive"/"Glavine" also got me a bit irked. However, the names are a yes-and-no... Like, take a random Pokemon. "Pikachu", a type of rodent and the Japanese onomatopoeia for "Squeak".. it's easy to see Pikachu being named "Squeaking Mouse". Charmander, "Char/charred/lit-on-fire" "Salamander". Aegislash: "Aegis"/a shield from Greek mythology + "Slash"/what swords do. Most actual Pokemon names wind up being some linguistic wordplay on a central phrase. The problem with the Paradox Pokemon is that their "central phrase" never got exposed to that "wordplay". Take Iron Hands, as an example. The non-paradox equivalent, Hariyama, comes from the name of a slap-move in Sumo Wrestling and the Japanese for "mountain" "Slapping Mountain". Swap "Harite"/"Slap" with "Denki"/"Electricity" and you get Denkiyama, "Lightning Mountain". Or "Yama"/Mountain gets swapped instead, "Haridenki"/"Slapping Lightning". That sounds more like a legit Pokemon name, gets rid of the casual "Iron X" that Future-Paradox Pokemon were stupidly given across the board, makes sense for the "X Hands" 'before wordplay' state (given that it would make sense to get "Slapping Lightning" from either "Electric Hands" or "Lightning Hands"), AND connects the Pokemon directly to its present-alternative/non-paradox form, Hariyama. Likewise, "Roaring Moon". Salamence is either "Salamander/Lizard Menace" or "Bomander" ("Violent Salamander/Lizard"). Salacrescent, Crescence... using the word "Crescent" for the specific type of moon it looks like. Or take the Japanese. "Moon" is "Tsuki" while "Crescent Moon"/New Moon is Mikadzuki ("three-day month/moon")... Scream is "Himei", combine them and you can get some mix of "Screaming/Sad-Sound" "Moon". Hitsuki/"Sad Moon" kinda feels right, though "Himeitsuki"/"Screaming Moon" does still fit. Maybe Salascream or Salashout for an English name, idk... but we haven't even left Japanese and English words for "Loud Sounds" and "Types of Lizards" and got lots of things that could work in both English and Japanese for Roaring Moon's "actual name". The developers just needed to do some wordplay!

She’s just doing her journey over because she sees potential in you and wants you to get on her level by motivating you directly. Geeta herself also elaborates that she got her socks completely rocked when she fought Nemona, speculating that the class rep was holding back tremendously even then.

It is interesting how so many trainers got wrecked by your Roar + entry hazards strats. Even though the AI is better in the newer games, having so many more options in terms of pokemon and their attacks/abilities still makes the new games relatively easy. What's also weird and something I didn't remember until I watched this video is that opposing trainers don't use healing items or held items. That seems really weird (don't remember if it was the case with Sword/Shield). I can imagine the run would be way harder if trainers used Full Restores to get rid of toxic.

One of the best parts about doing a run like this in gen 9 is that if you accidentally skip learning a new move, you can immediately just re-learn it. That is a feature I actually really enjoy in gen 9 because it's so much more convenient than having to go to a specific person in a specific place and hand over specific items every single time I wanna relearn a move.

Honestly this was awesome and coming up with the strats u did was great to see. I think the reason u cannot turn off battle animations in this game and LA is bcoz the battles now happen in the overworld, so they're like procedurally generated in real time, rather than pre-scripted animations in a separate battle environment / screen, that's what I think at least, I am not 100% sure. But not having a set mode just baffles me, I mean when team star sends out the car it doesn't ask u to switch, so set mode is definitely possible!

The vast majority of S/V challenge runs out there seem to be, and every single one that I've personally seen, only the gym leaders and elite four. The other stories and the true final boss never get featured, despite myself thinking them to be the stronger parts of the game. It didn't necessarily work out super well for this particular challenge, but it made me very happy to see a challenge run that actually put that challenge to the whole game. Your patience is formidable. Excellent work. PS. I took some supereffective psychic damage at Hassel's "Glavie Rush". I do know that pronunciations can get muddled in a game where nothing is verbally said, I'm guilty of it myself with pokemon names, particularly those that I formed preconceptions on when I was younger. But Glaive (pronounced gl-Ave) is a normal english word (It's for a medieval polearm, drawing the weapon parallel between the obvious Excalibur reference in Baxcalibur's name). I can see where the mixup occurred, but Gla-vine Rush was still a rough one to get hit by.

If anyone else wants to do this run; I hav a few suggestions that jrose didnt do, but can b a good idea. Pick fuecoco, this does mean you will lose the first 2 nemona fights, but skeledirge has access to roar by level up, will o wisp and protect by tm, and slack off and curse by egg moves which can be given with a mirror herb, an empty move slot, and another pokemon with the move. In levincia, an npc will trade u a haunter for a pincurchin. You should do this trade even if your just using haunter. Gengar gets perish song at level 1, whereas haunter only gets it as an egg move. Perish song is the best pacifist move you can get when paired with mean look that both haunter and genger also get. Toxic is a move that several poison types get access to by either egg move or by level up. Once you get toxic, you can get that move on haunter, gengar, or glimora.

Rosemeister-J! Loving the content! I had an idea, but I’m not sure if it’s possible: Beating a Pokemon game using only Bide and using only one Pokemon. I guess you’d need a tanky Pokemon who also has great attack. Edit: I should edit this to say you can use other non-attacking moves, but Bide can be the only attacking one you use.

In all honesty, the only reason i've gotten motivated to play Scarlet again is because of this Man. I got Scarlet a week after release and, i just don't really enjoy it, the fact you can pick up so many different Pokemon is great, and getting to use Wigglytuff for an actual run without having to trade a bred Jigglypuff over from a differrnt game and getting Larvitar early is awesome, but, the games are kinda just tedious to me, kudos to Jrose for actually revitalizing my small interest in this Generation with his great Content! :D

I did this challenge myself and made a video on it, and I find it really cool that we used different strategies! One, I didn't use Aftermath pokemon, that's an amazing source of damage! Two, I didn't think that Black Sludge would work on the Starmobiles when Tricked. I tried Tricking a Choice Scarf instead, and it did not lock it into a move, so I just assumed it had in-built Klutz and couldn't use items! Three, Salazzle was one of my main mons, and not only does it have Corrosion, it also has Encore + Disable, which makes the opponent Struggle and deal good recoil damage. Also, I did my run in level order, which made the Starmobiles way harder than they should have been xD Everything else, I had in my run as well. Great job on the run!

I think this run shows off Scarlet and Violet's good points (yes, it does have some) Aside from some trade evos, you can build almost anything for a run like this. For example you wouldn't be able to buy multiple rocky helmets. I kind of view SV as a sandbox.

As a person who is attempting a mono grass nuzlocke in Scarlet/Violet, I feel your pain when you realized that Starmobiles can't be affected by status at all. The fire and poison ones were especially nightmares for me. Using the charm attack helped me a lot in staying alive.
