Here is some extra info on the Dark Swarm Incantation. Basically it didn't work with this challenge run: - Extremely powerful, but temporarily debuffs your character upon use, massively decreasing your defense. - This incantation scales based both on the attack of your current weapon and your magic. The higher they are, the better. - Has very strong stunlock capabilities. So it very well could be the best incantation on a lets say regular build. Might have to test this myself in the future. Also funfact of Dark Swarm: Charm effects and weapon flags affect it, as well as some body buffs. This means that if you use something like the Kaltic Razor (Leeches MP on hit) + Saper Charm (Same effect), you can effectively cast Dark Swarm *infinitely*. This is, needless to say, very damn busted, and I'm 100% sure this dabbles into exploit territory. Use at your own risk/leisure. Additional notes: It works with the Voracious Charm (Leeches HP on hit), and the Stone Charm (Increases stagger). The "Clarity" consumable from the Keepers of Fire and Sky also works, allowing you to forego MP Leech against bosses from your Charms and Weapons.

In classic (original) edition, the betrayer throwable flasks cause a debuff where it lowers the enemy’s defense *and* increases damage taken, which is also where a ton of damage comes from

Dark Swarm scales with both the strength of your equipped weapon and your magic stat. Not having an equipped weapon reduces the damage dealt. That's why it seems underwhelming, I think.

I'd say that's the case with all incants. I'm not sure but I killed Carsejaw in around four casts of lightning storm with only 25 or so in magic, but while holding the arcane sword whose name i don't remember at +VI.

Funnily enough, I know what you mean because of Press Continue. He did a butterfly outfit run and a poop-only run in DS2 which are some of his best videos imo.

​​@@SheenShotsone of the most fun playthroughs of DS2 I've done has been a poison build where I used weapons on top of spells. Watching bosses keel over from Poison never got old. The Manslayer and Spotted Whip quickly became two of my favorite weapons in the game because of that playthrough. I recall watching the butterfly video of his, it's been a while since I watched it.

@@SheenShots Also if you're willing to count rot it's also true in elden ring. Also poison spray mist poison hurts more than most forms of rot. Takeaway? If it's not immune in Elden Ring damage over time is goated.

Used to run poison pvp builds and people just didn't have any way to deal with that. Even if they stopped to cure i would immediately re apply it

Also yes, part of swarm's scaling is based on the weapon you use, and yes this includes wands and staves. Also also it triggers any weapon passives and charm effects. All of this and the flask of defilement break the thing wide open.

Storm ring is great, I used it in my own mage run. IT's probably not the best for an incantation only run, especially since you're using a 'one incantation at a time' rule, but if you're playing without that sort of rule, it helps.

Very nice run. Working on creating a run for each of the creeds in the resalted mod. Still trying to figure out the details, as each will get a different bonus, depending on the default npc in the creed's location. The main rules are as follows: 1. You can only use weapons and armors that either are exclusive to the creed sold weapons/gear, or upgrade with the creed's upgrade line. Devara has Frozen Line, The Three have Charred, Iron Ones have Lord's, Roots have Twisted, Betrayer have Drowned, Splendor has none, and Fire has both Frozen and Charred in the mod. You can use default gear till you unlock a creed weapon/armor. 2. When you get access to an area's sanctuary that have an enemy with a Leader Material, you have to grind it out and get that rank with the leader before facing the boss. In cases like the Whisperlady Ashes, where you have to be a boss to unlock it, the boss can be beaten, then you can grind for the material. 3. When getting creed bonuses, 3 go to each of the non-health pot, non-mana crystal items. Need to be devotion Level 7 by the end. 4. Every Sanctuary that allows for Leveling up have to be made into the creed for the creed you are doing, with the exception of the betrayer. You can use Crystal Spheres if your run isn't the betrayer. 5. Have to have all the skills required to equip the creed's exclusive gear before ending the game. 6. Here are the bonuses each creed get access to during their runs: Devara's Light gets access to Miracles due to the Cleric. The Three get access to any Great Sword due to the Blacksmith. The Iron Ones get access to any Great Hammer due to the Blacksmith. The Stone Roots get access to any Weapon that is transmuted from Boss Materials due to the Alchemist. The House of Splendor are the only ones who can use consumables that either buff or deal damage due to the Merchant. The Keepers of Fire and Sky get access to any Incantation due to the Mage. The Order of the Betrayers get access to any Spell due to the Mage. And that is the run, what do you think?

The storm ring is great but does demand you be mixing your spells to handle the imbalance meter if youre just doing a single element all the time you do lose some damage but the link is the better option to not roast yourself. i also am not sure if it works with the dark spells.

Give up on the poison because it's too good? Heheheh. I'm the degenerate who mained poison my whole first playthrough. Poison whip and a crossbow loaded with poison bolts.

I like using the Storm Ring for my Magic LMG build, just get a good staff and both barrage spells (fire and lightning), and go to town.

Lamb is a huge problem sometimes. Easily one of the hardest bosses on certain runs.

Ok, two things to point out. First the lack of damage: You should hold a weapon for at least some incants. Carsejaw should die from like two or three casts of storm with that much magic, and the dark swarm scales better than any other incant, but has low base damage, so you lost a great deal of damage from it. Also I think wild fire looked a bit weak, so it might be for that reason... On another note, the Storm Ring is great, just useless for the challenge since you can't counter imbalance with only one spell. Great run though, I hope to see more Salt and Sanctuary (and maybe Salt and Sacrifice?) and perhaps a magic run where you combine the spells a bit, since it's the most fun about them really.

Ya I made it a point to not hold a weapon which technically would have been allowed now that I think bout it. But I will do another run with some incantations using a weapon to see the difference. Specifically with dark swarm because it didn't get to shine really. I do plan on playing the sequel as well eventually. But I have little experience in it so it will take me a bit for that game I think. Still excited to try the weapon types in it though.

Storm ting is good but only if you alternate beteeen spells of fire and spells of sky. As using a fire spell when you have a lot of sky build up will decrease it
