Tristans is called crab strat because all he does is move side to side like a crab. As crabs leg arrangement does not let them go forward easily. Very lame dad joke but that's 4kids humor for ya. I played bad guys as foe group exactly because of no mai/mako tsunami and a couple others to much headache for me... only in this video have I learned time out was a thing.

I have been exodia'd at least twice in this game vs gramps. So this game at least requires the pieces to be tactically placed and face up to activate... hence the castle shape. each corner and the entrance and If I have to explain which part goes where then I think you fail common sense the card pictures make it clear. That map is probably my least liked map because I have such a hard time reaching the center turn count got down to single digits more than once.

Don't know if anyone did answer or mention it, but Paralyzing Potion in DOTR works as an equip that can permanently spellbind any non-Machine monster. If any monster runs over an equip spell that is listed to boost it, it properly applies the buff/debuff.

Appreciate that! My confusion was mainly more with the monster moving/not moving after being equipped with it. I always thought that if a monster moves into Paralyzing Potion, it would then take up the space that PP was on. I didn’t realize that it stayed in the original square it was in, not moving forward

@@AquaSloth If I had to guess, I assume the coding sees the equip as a sort of "battle;" and in a battle, the attacker only moves onto the enemy's square if it actually kills it and also lives unscathed. Ergo, the process goes something like: attempt to move onto occupied square -> battle -> after battle effects -> movement Since Paralyzing Potion equips itself as part of the "battle," its effect to permanently spellbind starts to be applied either during that part of the process; or in the timing between "battle" and "after battle effects." Either way, it ends up nullifying the "movement" portion of the attack action; as spellbound cards obviously can't move.

Haha, if you farm a little and trade out some of the bad cards, it’s not too terrible, but the default deck to start is rough. Just grind out some Darkness Ruler duels and use his fiends!

Bandit Keith’s ai seems to have no problem running over his own cards, I’ve been struggling to beat him with the Molten Behemoth deck and I’ve observed that he’ll run over his strong monsters with weaker ones way more frequently than other characters. Something to do with the order in which the ai decides to move their cards

For perspective, Speedrunner Clovis ran with this deck in 1 hr 39. This is a full 39min behind his world record 59 min 24 sec run with the Patrician of Darkness leader. With some passwords used as well as edits along the way. It’s that significantly worse. God bless this poor man’s soul for putting up with this

Super late comment but just found the video and love challenge runs of these games. I have a theory as to why fiends get powered down by forests is because in Japan they have a lot of sacred places that are forests so by that logic forests would sap a fiend(demon) of its power. Haven’t seen anyone mention this in the comments section.

@ maybe something like wasteland would have been a good balance pick for reptiles because no food and little shelter for them. I haven’t played this game at all but have played a fair few others that I think help me understand this one’s mechanics of land types and it’s bonus/drawbacks systems. If they added stuff like labyrinth monsters that could go through or be boosted by labyrinth tiles that would be fun to add some variety and ways to break castling.

Honestly, with how difficult and lowkey cheaty Pegasus and MFL are, I am not sure. I think you could probably figure out a way to beat MFL Chakra legitimately, but Pegasus is borderline impossible imo. Mai and Mako are similar in that their monsters are just way too strong on the field and this deck has no real way of overcoming that. The only possible solution I could see would be the rush in immediately and hope they brick their first draw, but that’s very unlikely lol.

Tbh, my knowledge isn’t the best and it’s been a while since I set mine up. Yep! I think copies are relatively cheap compared to some other PS2 games, but you can also get the PCSX2 emulator and play it on PC!

Yeah, I can’t remember where I saw it, but I remember reading that the reason Castle Of Dark Illusions has a weird one is literally just because that’s just what they wrote in the original manga. Whether that’s true or not, I am not sure

There's a handful of mods out there, but Clovis's Redux mod changes some of the AI around and is a lot harder than the original game. Definitely check it out if you have a PC that can run PCXS2!
