I went back to school to become an RD after getting my first degree as a teacher. I had to take all the science prereqs but it only took a year and a half to do that in addition to some basic nutrition courses so not bad at all. I’m doing the masters coordinated program now. Currently one year down and one year left! Definitely was worth going back to school!

Great answers! I highly recommend all dietitians to obtain their master's degree. A master's degree will be required for all entry level dietitians starting in 2024. Current dietitians are grandfathered in of course. Good luck to you in your future career endeavors! If I had to pick another career it would be Occupational Therapist.

Hey, this video is great! Just for another perspective, I just graduated in May with my BS in nutrition and dietetics, but I'm planning on applying to PA school in a few years. In the meantime, I'm taking my last few pre-reqs (the laaaarge majority were satisfied through my dietetics degree, which is why I would recommend ANY pre-PA student to choose dietetics as their undergrad degree). To gain healthcare experience, I'm working as a milk/formula technician at a pediatric hospital near my house-- which is great because I get to actually utilize my nutrition degree in a meaningful way!! If anyone has any questions, feel free to reach out :)

Hi Amanda, for the question of “can you become a Dietitian with a different bachelor’s degree” you forgot to talk about the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)!! This is another pathway to RDN that is accredited by ACEND but does not result in a masters degree. That’s what I’m doing, it’s takes all of the required prerequisites into consideration in addition to the required Nutrition classes and makes me eligible for the DI. Maybe you can talk more about this next time ❤️
@amandavsevilla5 жыл бұрын
You're right! So anyone who's reading this, the DPD (Didactic program in dietetics) provides the required dietetics coursework leading to a bachelor's OR graduate degree (if your school provides it). Graduates of ACEND-accredited programs who are verified by the program director can then apply for Dietetic Internships to establish eligibility to take the RD exam. So basically it's not a coordinated program and you'd just do your dietetic internship afterward :)
@lesleymartinez29945 жыл бұрын
Hi, how do you apply for this program?
@shanayekh93455 жыл бұрын
Lesley Martinez many schools around the country offer this program. You can go to the ACEND website to search for programs www.eatrightpro.org/acend/accredited-programs/didactic-programs-in-dietetics.

Just adding a comment for Canada. You can become an RD through an accredited Masters program, but you will likely need to take a year in order to fill the prereqs such as clinical nutrition, food service management, biochem, stats, and some more courses. McGill has a great dietetic credentialing program. U of T has one too, but they are very strict on the bachelor's needed to enroll in the masters (they said I wasn't eligible to apply because my undergrad in nutrition & food science was missing clinical nutrition)

Wow. I would actually move to the States just to become a dietitian. It’s so much easier. In Canada or Ontario at least, you have to do a Food and Nutrition undergrad first to even qualify to write the RD exam to become a dietitian.. and you can’t qualify for the masters program until you finish an accredited Food and Nutrition program. I just finished my undergrad in Health Studies (took it straight out of highschool I didn’t know what I wanted to do yet..had an epiphany in my last year that I wanted to become a dietitian...so here we go with another 4 years 😭lol) I’m planning on going back to do another undergrad in Food and Nutrition to qualify to write the test. 😩😭
