We use a low power kettle with the Jackery Explorer 1000 power station and see how long it takes to boil a litre of water.

It's a good bit of kit. I think I would use a stove to boil a kettle, and save that Jackery for other useful devices which don't draw so much power. An excellent review!

The very best Jackery Review I've ever seen. Information plentiful to apply to other scenarios, and has the "see it to believe it" component. Thank you for doing the tedious work to create this video!

Oh my goodness, thank you for doing this! Our power goes out every winter due to adverse weather and the only thing we miss is not being able to make a cuppa tea!

Good review!! Much better when people do real life reviews rather than shout out the stats! As they don’t really matter! We just want to know if we can boil water and cook some food!! But….. please take the tea bag out before adding the milk to your tea 😂😂👍👍👍

I believe the 1000 will support a portable convection hot plate which you could put a kettle on. My Jackery failed the regular kettle test today, so I know it doesn’t work. I did manage to get my coffee maker, convection toaster over and air fryer to power up. An expat watching in Florida.

Great stuff Jeremy - I like the hot plate idea, but I'm guessing you mean conduction rather than convection! How long have you been living in Florida? Plenty of sun for solar charging! The UK is going to pot so I think you made a good call... Cheers, Marc

Thanks Blaine! I felt a bit silly posting a video of me literally boiling water, but it shows what can be done.

for water boiling, get a Kelly Kettle, a few small sticks gets 1.6 litres boiled in about 2 minutes with the Base camp model. I am amazed by my new Kelly Kettle.

I keep looking at power packs but for boiling water a good gas stove with a heat exchanger pot would be quicker and probably cheaper, not sure what 14% of the power pack would cost to charge up. Gas has its own issues of course, not so safe in a tent and some ventilation is essential. Just bought a portable induction hob so I’m wondering how that would work with a power pack.

Can you run computer with this? Night time electricity only 0.10 cents/kWh here now. Day time ~50cents/kWh.

Definitely. This is my plan, hopefully charging with solar at the same time

Of course it's gonna take a long time to boil and use more energy. If you were just making a cuppa just for you, you would never fill it the the maximum line. I would fill it so it boils maybe 2 cups and you save energy as well.

Hi Andrew - yeah you're right of course. I was just impressed that you could boil a kettle at all with a 1000W Jackery power pack. Thanks for your comment! Marc

This is true Steve, but you can't replenish your gas using solar power like you can with the Jackery. There is a 1500W version of the Jackery available which would boil water faster.

haha, yes the video has dated a bit. At the time, getting a power pack to boil water was quite a novelty. On your first point, camping is whatever you want it to be. Some people want power, some don't. Horses for courses. Cheers!
