Always seems like the question really just comes back to: What do you mean by "personality".

Have you seen his video on the difference between psychological type and personality, one is bigger and much more all encompassing than the other(personality). Which is why Jung only called it psychological type and not personality, its just the way you take in and evaluate information(your software) it doesn't have to change for your output(behavior) to change. i'm not necessarily saying that you don't know this, but just wanted to get the distinction out there.

After studying all the Jungian based models out, I have created my own. It's closest to the 4 mindsets concept. And it combines Jung's work back in with Freud's. Conscious ego has a parabolic mirror I call the subconscious defender. The unconscious ID Shadow, our inner child, has a parabolic mirror called the subconscious superego. I have found the integration of the first three mentioned happen naturally throughout the course of a person's life. Integration of the superego is really an end-of-life experience. The integration of the other three does happen in the specific order I listed them, but does not happen like a complete switch of operating systems, more like parts get pulled from the other system to add to the ego as they are being matured, and this creates the look of multiple types. But we do not change our cognitive function stack types. ... I have a fascination that we all label ourselves with our ego persona type, but the reality is it is the shadow id that drives integration. Wouldn't that make the Shadow our true type? 🤔 ... I love your videos by the way, been a subscriber for a few years now. You create solid content without infusing your own bias. ❤️

@@ramonaflowrx I have actually recently created a business plan and packets for each cognitive personality type and their four pack, to help people with their own individual roadmaps to do the shadow work successfully, and handle their own integration processes smoother. But I'm not doing this online with a platform as my main business plan. I will be going directly to people. ... If you have a specific question or want to talk privately in email or some other platform I'm open for that. And right now I'm not charging as I'm solidifying my own presentation of the information still. 😊

sorry to say, but before you can "create" your own, you need to conduct extensive research that will test your "model." You also need to learn quite a bit about psychology and psychiatry to create a whole "model." And combining Jung and Freud is an odd choice, to put it mildly, because they are very different and there are no true, essential points of connection between the two. Not to mention, that Freud's theories are rather questionable, just as the history of Freud's background and practices/development of his "theories" are.

@@WritingWren when someone "joins" Jung and Freud into one system that alone speaks volumes about that person's knowledge and understanding of Jung and Freud. Moreover, like I said, without sufficient research one cannot develop any serious "system," and unless you've been at this for decades with continuous funding for your research, it is safe to assume you haven't done enough research to speak of any system. Thirdly, anyone who takes Freud seriously has been under a fairly heavy postmodern contemporary mainstream indoctrination and hence lacks sufficient critical thinking to create an original "system." FYI: one does not need to know someone "well enough" to evaluate that person's claims/statements. In fact, to suggest that one should "know someone well enough" before assessing someone's statements/claims sounds like a variety of logical fallacy of arguing from authority. Not only that, but also your assumption that one should know someone "well enough" before evaluating that person's claims undermines your engagement with Freud because you did not know him "well enough" to assume that his "theories" are meaningful in any way -- obviously, you based your understanding of Freud on whatever mainstream sources told you about him. Btw, my comment wasn't a "judgement" but an assessment of the validity of your claim that you created your own "system." There is nothing "judgemental" about it, and there was nothing personal in it, just as there is nothing personal in this response of mine. You, on the other hand, got personal because you did not attack my arguments, but immediately went into a "personal attack mode" by saying that I do not know you well enough (what a dumb thing to say as a "counterargument," but I won't repeat myself). And then added those dumb passive aggressive smilies.Gawd... Tbh, the way you took my impersonal assessment of your claim so personally + all the underlying assumptions in both your initial claim and your response to my comment + labeling a critical comment "judgemental" (that is sooo millennial-genZ-contemporary culture lol, I am sure I can guess your age group without "knowing you well enough") = only confirms my initial conclusion that most likely you cannot have a thought-out and original "system." Once again -- nothing personal. And something else: if you decide to express any claims in a public space there in the "world wide web" you should be prepared for the fact that not everyone is going to be your cheerleader, and there may be some critical responses. If your claims have any substance, they will hold up to any constructive criticism; but if not -- perhaps, said claims should be reconsidered. Be well!

I hate acting extroverted for longer than I’m comfortable with. It’s one of the most uncomfortable and wrong feelings that I’m familiar with. I’ll take some pretty extreme measures to avoid people and situations which demand it of me too much/often. INFJ-T turned INFJ-A within these past few years. I’m 43 and I’m a biological female.

Impulsivity is contained within the Big Five, although depending on how you interpret it the traits can differ. It seems something like a mix of Extraversion (positive emotions make you more likely to take opportunities in the moment), Low Conscientiousness, Low Agreeableness (more likely to engage in conflict) and Neuroticism (the Volatility aspect, as it makes you angrier)

Was excited by the idea of mbti type possibly changing over time, though it does seem to be a consensus that it doesn't. I don'tt know too much about this but remember hearing about the "transcendant function" and Jung talking about supposudly overcoming his introversion as part of his individuation(exiting the box of type and becoming your true "Self" in the Jungian sense) Regardless kinda figured the big 5 made more sense, and a good interesting video regardless! Ps. If psychological type really can't change does that then possibly suggest a strong genetic component/disposition in regards to mental wiring/preferences or does it maybe just mean that it is really hard to change(or rather completely overwrite) those strongly ingrained pathways. I remember dr. Nardi saying that in midlife(somewhere around there) your work was the biggest factor in how your type got moulded and showed up in his brain scans, but it didn''t ultimately change your type but rather just strongly flavor it, suggesting a certain immutability(to your type). Last question to Chris(and or anyone else who'd like to take a crack really), how much do you think a single person is capable of shifting in the traits(the overall ones the big 5, not the facets) over a lifetime? i know you kinda answered it in the video but i mean what is the feasible limit/extreme, can a person with a conscientiosness score of 40 with a lot of hard work over a long period reach 80 for example? How mutable could it possibly be?, very hard to answer i know just interested in perspectives since it definetely seems more fluid than mbti at least in this sense.

Jung was most likely an extravert to begin with, but because of his high senstivity used to not fully engage in his natural extraversion. A ton of Ne and Se doms are convinced they are introverts and only later in life (with maturity and development) admit they are actually reserved / sensitive extraverts. The interwebs are brimming with them, and I know several rl examples as well (an Se-dom and several Ne-doms). And yes type and subtype are genetic.

@@timefortee Interesting! Do you think he was an Ne dom or Se dom then? I would guess Ne dom, maybe ENTP? I agree that type specifically doesn't change and there definitely seems to be a genetic component to it at least to some degree, but you sound pretty certain. How much of type do you think is predetermined? The exact type, just the dominant function or maybe even just the temperament(i mean like IP, EP, IJ, EJ)?
@timefortee
@timefortee Жыл бұрын
@@yusufjibrel7465 Yeah Jung was probably ENTP, although we obviously don't know for sure. He was definitely neurodivergent (gifted) though, and this usually throws MBTI people off, since gifted adults don't correspond to stereotypical types (their unconscious CFs are more developed). As for heritability of type, yes I'm pretty certain (although this ain't no valid argument for the validity of my claim, of course) that type is inherited from the same-sex parent, but the subtype will change (1 of 4). I have yet to see a family this hasn't been the pattern in. I'm so glad I came across this piece of very well hidden information years ago, but the masses reject it without proper critical study if mentioned. Their brains can't deal with it.

Enjoyable video as always. Super instructive. I think it's not very that we "change our personality" (of course we change to various degrees we improve), it's more through time we discover our authentic self/personality. I agree the persons can repress certains parts of their personality if there is many parts, for example : In the case of neurodivergent persons like me : we try to fit and conform to the expectations of parents, persons, the way of how society/environment is. I think my brain (or me ?) had decided to keep in the unconscious (repress) the parts of myself (Gifted, Asperger, ADHD) to protect me. I find it fascinating how the brain function (survival mechanism) and keep in the unconscious the parts of the authentic self, to protect himself, to survive by trying to adapt to the environment. Certains persons born with only one part, certains others with 2, 3 or more.

Hi Elodie. Have you heard of Cognitive Personality Theory? We've had a lot of discussions around neurodivergence & cognitive type; I find autism so heterogeneous that I think it's impossible to even point towards one set of characteristics that everyone shares. Ironically I'm a cognitive ENFJ deemed on the spectrum albeit I don't struggle with social interactions, in fact it's a strength - I understand them on a very nuanced level. It's worth mentioning that in MBTI I test as an INTJ or invariably ENTP; as a divergent subtype my Ti-Ni is much more convergent than my Fe-Se pairing hence I present more like a thinking dom - I switched naturally according to context. I also have ADHD & a very high IQ...I was wandering if you had any thoughts on IQ, cognitive type and neurodiversity...no worries if not, it's just nice to know that other people are also interested in this niche topic.

How much do you think the age related differences have to do with the general life experience of different generations, rather than the factors of aging itself? I feel like doing one of those studies where they check the same people at different ages would be far more effective at answering the question than a study of everyone now. (Although of course they take far longer....😂) Makes sense that people in their 70s and 80s in Germany would be more neurotic compared to Great Britain, they were born around the end or just after WW2 and dealing with the fallout of that on their parents and communities.

Also, your personality absolutely can be changed by volition and choice. I have personal experience here. But it's generally going to be a ton of work and most people won't do it. Only if one really feels the need and the desire comes from within.

@@timefortee Weird, because 5 years ago all signs indicated I was an INFJ, and now I'm very clearly an INTJ, lol. Saying your type and subtype is genetic is just a theory unless you can quote a study that's found this to be accurate to a high degree of certainty. I've seen claims of triplets each having a different type (not sure how valid they are, but the person claiming it was one of the triplets, and they were convinced). None of this is science, it's more like philosophy, quit pretending it's proven fact.

Asura; cognitive ENFJ here typed by CPT although in MBTI I tend to test as INTJ or invariably ENTP owing to my convergent Ti-Ni being higher in magnitude than my Fe-Se pairing. Do you have any opinions on CPTs network theory? I don't think it's possible to 'change' our core type however it is possible to expand our cognition in terms of cognitive fluidity and accessing new gateways/bringing subconscious processes to conscious recognition. I'd be really excited if, based on your own experience with your girlfriend who is also an ENFJ I believe, if you could do a video exclusively on ENFJs and do away with the behaviourally imbued stereotypes that seem to permeate the typology world. Admittedly, as a divergent subtype I am quite a rare breed of ENFJ albeit I think the fact that Fe is perceived as some kind of people pleasing conformist function is way off the mark; for one Fe and Fi within one's stack isn't synonymous with being agreeable - indeed in terms of the big 5 I score quite highly on disagreeableness. Fe is simply good at understanding everyone's individual objective & subjective opinions. I'd really appreciate some content combating these stereotypes especially the notion that Ti is somehow 'inferior' for the ENFJ. Ironically, Ti as measured by CPT was deemed as the function that I possess to the highest magnitude and let's not forget that Fe and Ti are on an inextricable axis - mine is rated as 50/50 so I can easily oscillate on my axis to operate from a Ti dominant perspective - which is where I spend most of my time as a hermit lol. Neuroplascity seems to back this up. Let's also not forget the impact of trauma on the brain...

this 5-f model is one of the most useless and meaningless systems. A typical postmodern pc "system" so as not to "offend" anyone because everyone is on "spectrum." Absolutely useless. Nothing definitive. "Positively/negatively associated" -- a typical postmodern quasi-scientific lingo that is meaningless and says nothing behind all those words. Same as "may become less [characteristics], may become more [characteristics," certain life circumstances may "decrease [characteristics], or may "increase [characteristics] and other such meaningless stuff. Not to mention, that the way they define those characteristics, be it conscientiousness or agreeableness etc., is very postmodern pc-culture-mentality-defined. Moreover, while these characteristics are present to a certain extent in many people, they reveal absolutely nothing about an individual personality. One's perception and processing of the world, how one relates to the outside world --- are at the core of one's individuality, and 5f model says nothing about that. But many like this "model" because everyone gets a participation trophy.
