You actually can eat bulb bush sample, they provide 3 food and 10 water each. You couldn't because you were in creative mode.

When it showed the wreck at the end, I thought it was actually the Grassy Plateaus, because of how similar it is without the bulbs. The only real way to notice it's not the plateaus is to see the enemies that were there, since light level could be explained by time of day, and on the outer edges of the plateaus there aren't any of the pillars.
