Want to clarify my ignorant comment at 4:22 - mushrooms have a lot of carbon in them :)
@pikator9153 Жыл бұрын
Indeed carbone is one if not the most important atoms needed for life (well , all atoms are needed but carbon is very present)
@rainraven9881 Жыл бұрын
What's most interesting to me about making carbon from mushrooms is this confirms the life on 4546B is carbon based just like Earth life. Lots of hints in the final game that the planet's pretty Earth like in a lot of ways, but I don't remember anything that clearly confirms the carbon aspect? You're just kind of left to assume that's the case since the Kharaa infection presents with the same symptoms in Ryley as it does with everything else.

I actually made myself a little adventure in Subnautica Below Zero with the same "limital space" idea. I was able to build up on top of the mountain I was not supposed to and started exploring. It was crazy, I found so many things, here is the list of some stuff I found: - huge flat areas of snow (sometimes changing to sand, or was it just light brown snow? Idk) - snow that glows in dark - mounains shaped like cubes or spheres - fake mountains (the ones you just go through. I was even carrying snow to throw in front of me to avoid falling and getting stuck) - a vanishing mountain - alternative entrance to Frozen Leviathan cave - Dev testing room for Ice Worm (unfortunetly it got removed, now you can only see circles of sand in that place) - 2 really small pieces of land floating in the air - Obelisk looking mountain in the middle of nothing - water and snow glitching into each other - being able to look at the surface of the Void are without getting eaten (I still saw the Leviathans down there tho, they tried to get to me but couldn't) It was a great and surreal experience, exploring places not meant to be explored and finding stuff just for the sake of it :D

the tundravoid is so much more scarier than anything else in the game because its just miles upon miles upon MILES of snow, and a tiny jump may lead to the ocean, with zero void chelis to attack you, so you fall, forever.

Omg I remember finding this too! And some of that stuff sounds familiar.

@KUIKATSU2 ай бұрын
I found smth even crazier... You remember the below of the ice-worm land? There was a water canal that you escape by laser cutting the frozen entrance.. i've found the testing room for it. was following the claw traces beneath the icy mountains, getting in and out of the caves located right there, one of the caves was taking me into the mountain which turns out was empty, had required laser cutting just like the one we saw before. Inside was a tiny room full of plants looking just like the caves at the phi laboratorie island. wish it was an easter egg tho. (Sorry for bad English)
@tiber_drake Жыл бұрын
You know, this old build is suddenly much more realistic than I thought it would be (well, before you clipped into backrooms)). Because the ocean floor is also usually dark, barren, and somewhat liminal. Some might even say that this is the quintessence of thalassophobia: darkness, emptiness and impenetrable thickness of water, wherever you look.
@TheLastBacon Жыл бұрын
Yeah this was just terrifying :)
@sirpr3ce855 Жыл бұрын
exactly, atleast for me, who would say has at least some thalassophobia, seeing those completely empty areas (especially the dark ones) was 10 times worse than those areas later in the released game even if i knew that nothing was there to attack. what strikes me with fear especially are areas where you dont have any orientation points, so either on the bottom of the sea with black "walls" everywhere around you and the ground looking basically the same or areas of the open sea where you just deep enough to still get some sunlight, but so far away from everything to completely loose orientation (think the scene of finding nemo right before they "meet" the whale)

I wish we had encounters with survivors. People who had a regular supply of basic materials (find them farming) and maybe even some survivors being hunted upon area arrival, triggering death scene. Would have given the game a more ISOLATING experience rather just being alone right off the bat. The aurora team does have a futuristic advancement, but the precursor aliens were far ahead of them. Do you remember the game “The Thing” for PS2? Your party had a trust system, bravery meter, ect. Pointing a gun at them would turn them all on you eventually. Everyone was paranoid to who was infected. Imagine subnautica with a team you needed for late game stuff? You didn’t have to but it unlocked harder areas/new items? Idk. one cool thing you can do in creative to clip through the map and get to the lower areas of the game is falling to 8000 meters in the void using the prawn suit, and then when you teleport up you will fall through the map and get to lower sections of the game. The reason this most likely works is because the prawn suit is one of the only things in subnautica that has gravity physics, and it was also programmed to have a very high terminal velocity, and that speed is faster than the game’s terrain loading abilities. Now there is only one main way to reach this terminal velocity without commands or cheats, the void. Since the void is so deep, you are able to reach the prawn suit’s terminal velocity, and when you reach the bottom of the void you teleport instantly to the surface, but your prawn suit’s terminal velocity stays the same, and since you teleported and are falling so fast the game can’t load the terrain in time and you noclip through the map.

I think the game was made scarier unintentionally by having really dark places, giving the player no knowledge about what might be there. Even if there is nothing, we still imagine some sort of creature living in the darkness

Even though both you and i know there is nothing in those "backroom" areas. We're scared/uncomfortable due to "the fear of the unknown" we dont know whats there. If you were suddenly in a complete void and were told by someone that there is NOTHING there except you, you'll still be in fear.... The psyche of us people is really interesting when you think about it.

I know the early developmental build in Nov 2015 had an intended route to the lava zone through the deep grand reef from some old screenshots i had. It was a super cool area. Build 25416 if anyone is interested. it had some extremely creepy effects near the early lava. (this route didn't make it all the way to the lava zone but it was clearly going to be a route)
@TheLastBacon Жыл бұрын
I should really check that one out :)

@@TheLastBacon Yeah the whole area looked like the cave system was carved out by giant spheres. I'm also pretty sure the seamoth had its radar available in the update so its easy to see the geometry.
@AgentSapphire Жыл бұрын
@@TheLastBacon I am also pretty sure the lava route persisted for quite awhile after the Nov 2015 update but I don't know how long. I remember there was a very brief time when the tunnel turned into a vertical shaft with very *very* strange geometry. It reminded me of like... Those disk mushrooms that you could see growing on rotting wood. Shelfs like that that plunged vertically downward. The tunnel is also extremely hard to find. It is through a cave, then up, then down, or something like that. Might want to use noclip to actually locate the area. Hope this helps.

I remember some versions where the void was straight up bottomless with no ghost leviathans, and you could swim down potentially millions of meters and basically leave the games box.
@TheLastBacon9 ай бұрын
Yep true :)
@readthiscomment67489 ай бұрын
@@TheLastBacon fun thing actually. Just doing a quick google search, you would need an ocean with a depth of 291 km for ice 7 to start forming. So if the void canonically has the greatest depth possible, you should be able to descend 291000 meters before reaching a surface made of ice that buries the planets asthenosphere. Assuming you can make a seamoth capable of withstanding a psi of 413,914

The current generators are interesting, because the early game also had terraforming. So it seems like it was initially meant to be much much much more free form. With the terraformer and current generators you could essentially create transport tubes.

I must say that subnautica has always been terrifying. Just for different reasons. I remember playing the early alphas and there wasn't much content. I think it was even procedurally generated vs having a map but I could be wrong on that. I don't think there was even anything that could harm you yet -- but you didn't know that.. so you were always looking behind. Trying to unlock something so you could go into the hotter area and not knowing if you will be jumpscared by a new enemy at any time. It was scary but only in our imagination. If I remember correctly, kelp was the greatest foodsource back then lol. There was literally almost nothing to do since it was an early alpha but it was fun to just swim around. It was always tense. Now, i've played it for at least 2000 hours. It's still terrifying. I know exactly where every leviathan is, and yet I still keep looking over my shoulder in case I missed something. Below zero I loved because of the storyline. I just had to hear everything. It's not that scary though. I still remember exactly where to go past the sharks to get the main thing that starts the storyline and can get it in like the first half hour. Nothing in below zero beats when you first try to go to the ship in subnautica and encounter Sammy for the first time. My first time playing, I "noped the fuck outta there" instantly and never came back until I had unlocked literally everything else in the game except for aurora stuff lol. I got battered at level 1 and came back at lv50. I was waiting for something similar in the sequel, but it never came. (for me anyways)

In my opinion, it would have been a good idea to use the terraformer to create a base in a cave or something like that. It would have been great if they adapted it to the latest versions. The only problem I can find would be reasoning with the bugs.
