Hey, just a tip. Soak your leather in distilled water, then stretch , and finally, roll the excess water away with a clean dough roller before burning. It does a couple of things. It's more consistent,it doesn't char, and you can turn the power up without worry. It works great for me. I say distilled water to avoid mineral marks on the leather.

You have no idea how helpful this info to me. I have to cut accurate and identical straps from leather more than that can be done by a knife and ruler, but less than to buy a proper cutter. There is nothing fancy with the cut itself but time!

I've just started playing with my new laser and leather is soon on my list. One suggestion from another channel is to wet the leather for a few minutes, but I think that was for engraving. Thank you for the tip and the detailed explanation.

Perfect timing. Just got some faux leather. Was wondering if it would work the same as real leather.

There's So Much to Learn. I'm Very Grateful for Your Tutorials. I just recently bought my Very First Laser and haven't got a Clue what I'm doing but thought this would be a great hobby to learn and keep my mind busy with new ideas. I engraved three vector images using LaserGRBL and had to learn how to create the GCode .nc File extension so I could save it on a Micro SD card to insert the files in the desktop laser without having to be directly connected to the computer. (For engraving/cutting outdoors when using it for acrylic or anything else that can be toxic when burning) Eventually I hope to build a hood out of an old Air Conditioner enclosure and add a exhaust fan to pipe the smoke outside. Anyway, I'm just Thankful that You and Others are helping Newbies like myself learn the "How To's" in Laser Engraving, this will definitely help get something that I can give Family in the near future possible in a shorter time. Ciao My Friend!!

Very good, I haven't tried to cut leather yet but I've engraved a fair amount. The biggest problem I've had with engraving is removing the soot. What are you using to clean the soot from the engravings? I will try and use an iron on the corium side of the leather and see if I can get a good cut. I thank you for your time to test leather and another good video!

Hello George Chambers, thank you for your comment. So far I have been blowing compressed air, than used some soapy water just to rub on it couple of time and it seems working, but as I said I haven't had much experience with leather, therefore, this might not be the best solution. I hope it helps Ciao

Have you wetten the leather before engraving it.

Hello Amanda Lyons, thank you for your comment and suggestion. I have already received such a suggestion, but I haven't tried yet, I found some leather without corium that cuts through effortlessly, as there is no dispersion of energy. I am planning for a video update, and I will definitely feature the wetting of leather. Ciao

why you just don't tension it and nail it to a plywood board?
@MiddleRoomWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Hello jhonoleg, thank you for your comment. This may help to remove crispiness, but it does not help with the corium layer. After the video I started to experiment with water, just soak the sheet of leather for 5min in water before starting, then use a roller to squeeze the excess water out, and it cuts very nicely. I am planning a video update in the future. I hope it helps ciao
