We all know that the Honda Monkey is a fantastic little bike, but can it really do touring? We rode it for 600 kilometers in 24 hours to find out!

It’s more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow! Greetings from California, I’m planning on buying a blue Honda monkey soon, I can’t wait to ride up the coast!

Not recommended at all. You need to hear the horns from the cars in the traffic.

I've ridden my 2019 Monkey bike from Burbank to Lancaster, in California and back which is a good 150 miles round trip (240km) and by the time I get home my back and butt hurts but I have to agree with you, it's a lot of fun, I put up with the discomfort every other weekend because I love taking it for long rides. Wish I had a partner to ride along .

fantastic review, especially like the breakdown; butt, knees-back, etc..

In my opinion, the lack of overtaking power is the biggest gripe of riding a low powered bike on busy roads. Me and my son had some pretty long days going north a couple of years ago when he was on the 125. I used the slipstream of my bike to "pull" him past slower moving traffic. That worked pretty well. We did 500-800km days. Hard, but fun🙂 The updates with butt,ear,back and fun status was good! I prefer riding with ear plugs to avoid tinnitus. My brother got it quite early. That thought me a lesson.

Great vid, thanks for taking the time to make it. I do big rides on my Honda Cross Cub like 555km in a day followed by about 350 then 450 back to home, no problems at all, the Cross Cub has space to carry your gear, that is the downside of the Monkey....But I still want one. Park it next to my BMW R1150 Rockster.

I plan to do the TAT and back on mine, outfitting it out now. It will be a grueling 10,000mi journey but it should be one of the most epic things I’ve ever done.
@spydie2 жыл бұрын
and did you ever get to the TAT? I'm guessing you'll never do 10,000 on a Monkey.

Spot on. Very fair assessment in my opinion. I did 125 miles of forest roads and trails with my Monkey in one day and that was enough for my ears and butt as well! The smaller the roads, the more fun the Monkey is. It's very capable on light offroad adventures when paired with knobby tires.

Good to see sharing experience. I like to say, that touring comfort depends not on seat softness, but on butt hardness. Did nynashamn-stavanger (1000km) in one day on crf250l,fully packed with tents, matresses and so on, so max speed similar to monkey (arround 90kmh). It was doable! Did 10 fuel fillups during that day. Also planning to to to Sweden-Norway on monkey125 (4000km in 7 days), will see how it goes :)

Regarding comfort, I had a GS 1150 Adventure and rode many long days - 30,000 miles in 2 years of ownership. Comfort was fine for one hour riding. End of second hour butt was getting numb. After two hours all the usual discomforts intensify: arms, shoulders, back, and butt. More than two hours were not super comfortable, in my opinion. It's wrong to imagine you can ride GS for eight hours and feel fresh as a daisy. Legs were fine on GS (and fun fact, cylinder heads give considerable protection against wet feet). By comparison with this review and others seen, Monkey comfort seems pretty good. Motorcycling is a question of how much discomfort you can take, and this will depend on your age and fitness. I am in reasonably good shape and owned GS in mid- forties. If you want high speed to cover miles, get GS or something equivalent. However, after riding 110 Honda cub copy in Thailand, I am switching preference to small, light weight machines, which are easy to ride, cheap, fuel efficient, and practical. I was amazed at how good cub copy was with two people on it. Am currently considering new Honda Hunter 125, and Honda Monkey. Thanks for you nice review!

I did 258 miles yesterday and I didn't have any pain in the back or butt. I wear foam earplugs when I ride so I had no ringing ears even with yoshimura exhaust and K&N intake. I could keep on riding if I needed to. The only limitations were on the uphill sections of the highway with 55 mph speed limit. My Monkey could do only 54 mph and other cars were doing 60 mph. I may have to get a big bore kit.

Loved the video! We just bought a pair of Monkeys knowing the limitations to them very well. Very impressed with how well it performed considering what you were asking of it. May I ask why you went to a 14 tooth sprocket on the front? Years ago I worked for Volvo Penta, for ten years. During that time I got to visit Sweden three times. What a gorgeous place to live and thanks for the history lesson on the house paint!

"Quite"? - I have 55000km on my 10 year old Innova. 1 exhaust corroded away, both brakes got sticky once, electric starter died at about 22k and it ate 2 lightbulbs, 2 chains, 4 tyres, 1 pair of brake pads. Neutral light bitched once, left foot peg rubber, thats all. Most reliable bike, I had so far.

@@311ranger4 Around here only a single one would be legal. I fear conventional ones, trying to overpower a cheap helmet's wind noise, would harm ears even more? I never tried electronic noise cancellation. I'm not keen to acquire another expensive toy wearing out cables or requiring recharges.
