We've been told it takes 1 year per inch to air dry wood. That's not quite true. So how long does it take wood to dry once it's been milled and stacked?

Haha, yeah little leaf thought he was the main character! I need the shop space for at least a month and then I can move some wood in there to finish drying.

@@MacJackal Probably just an Alaskan mill type setup with a chainsaw, but possibly a lower end band saw mill. I only need a relatively low volume of production, just for my own use for a few structures. Thinking of trying a solar kiln, too

Yeah I want to build a solar kiln at some point as well. An Alaskan mill would be cool because you can bring it to the log no matter where it is and it's cheaper to get going. Either way I'm sure you'll have fun!@@thetautline

About 90+% of wood drying occures at the ends of the wood not the sides stickering wood for an air dry kiln is for temp. control not drying, wood is like a bundle of straws not a sponge, Vacuum plate kilns which are generally the fastest drying possible load with hot metal plates between each layer for heating and all moisture is removed at the ends. It is important to remove any sealer applied to ends before drying so that water can escape otherwise drying times will be greatly extended
