oh i forgot to mention but this egg was laid less than 24 hours ago so there was no embryo or anything inside. dont try this with a fertile egg thats been incubated for more than 24 hours that would be gross. also stop sending me hate its not different than eating a chicken egg, i replace them with a fake and they don't notice, and as a responsible breeder i dont hatch every egg so as to not overpopulate.

They can't tell the difference between fake eggs and real ones. I agree It slows them down from laying and gives them a break. And there is no "balut" in an unincubated egg less than a day old, people. I have my pet female pigeon who does not have a mate, and she has laif 100% guaranteed unfertile eggs that I am going to scramble with a little cheese, and a chicken egg to spread it out more. I used to eat my pheasants' unfertile eggs. I had a mother and her 2 daughters, who lived together in one pen. The male (father bird) was kept separate from his 2 daughters and his elderly wife. They could visit each other and see one another, but nothing else. The pheasant eggs were good. I would invite the neighbor kid over and share them with him. I had the pheasants all their lives and treated them like spoiled house pets. (no, birds are NOT on my menu). 🕊️❤

If you replace the egg with a fake doesn't the bird realize that the egg never hatches?

Boiling a pigeon egg was a fun experiment when I tried it! Tasted pretty standard but the colours were kinda interesting, the white was kinda translucent, it'd be fun to see if the same thing happens

I had a week old pigeon egg the other day and don't worry, I didn't commit a heinous deed- The egg was unfertilized meaning it wouldn't hatch either way, so I ate it. actually, there were two eggs, both unfertilized, the parents literally stared at me as I took them away and went back to mating after I took them out, I candled the eggs, and saw there was literally no development in them so I decided it would be fine and I was also curious-

Wow! I never thought about it, but giving animals a break from raising kids is such a wise thing to do! Just like with everything else - you need a break to be healthy and productive! Also it's really cool that you don't just throw eggs away! I wonder how pigeon eggs taste? Are they safe from salmonella? I heard that geese and duck eggs are risky to eat, because of salmonella.

@@gtthefirst3128 Quail eggs are more rich in taste than chicken eggs; this is probably due to the larger yolk present in quail eggs vis-a-vis the ratio of egg white compared to chicken eggs. Duck eggs are also more rich in taste than chicken, because they have a larger percentage of fat in them.

A pigeon just laid two eggs in my windowsill. They are a tiny bit bigger than quail eggs you see in the grocery store but still definitely smaller than the smallest chicken egg you'll find in a standard dozen.
