I did it the easy way. I went on Ebay and found the Ford Premium Sound radio with CD player for $80 & it came with the Ford removal tools. I pulled the AM unit, unplugged it, and plugged in my new radio. That gave me AM/FM/CD player. No muss, No fuss.

They actually make a kit that installs on the radio to cover those holes on the left and right side, makes for a cleaner install, and no it does not stick out far at all. I installed in my 2007 which is the same trim as yours and looks factory.

Do I need to get a double din bracket/installation kit or will the double din fit in without it
@WJHandyDad6 жыл бұрын
it fits without. Most aftermarket stereos I've seen won't be secured to the vehicle without the install kit. However they do fit snug enough that they won't fall out, even under pretty aggressive driving. So it's best to get the install kit but not mandatory. The stereo I installed in this video never once even jiggled. I recently replaced it with a bigger screen, but not because the stereo needed anything.

the problem you have is not so much the double din, its the depth of your unit that causes the problems. pull the dash trim and look at the hole and theirs a plastic vent thats why fords units are eitehr tiny like the stock p71 radio, or have a angle on them....

Great Job! Thanks for posting! I just bought a pair of double dins for my CVPI's & was curious about where to mount that gps antenna. I think I'll do as you did n dash mount it. I already have the holes covered up w lil shark antennas😁
@WJHandyDad6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm very happy with the dash mount. In fact, I had routed that antenna to the roof on my Avalanche and after I did the Vic install, I went back and moved the antenna to the dash on the Avalanche. I really didn't want an aftermarket antenna having to cover a factory hole in the roof. I put back the factory antenna to cover the hole on the Avalanche. GPS works fine with the antenna on the dash.

it was the cheapest one on Amazon at the time. From what I've found, most of the ones sold on there are about the same size, even to this day. Recently it seems they are selling shallower ones that don't have the CD/DVD in them, and those should fit all the Crown Vics, even the older ones with the ducting behind the stereo

Depends on year... I believe it is 03+ with the redesigned ducting that doesn't severely limit the depth of the hole at the top... 02 and earlier you need either a mechless shallow unit or something with a single din size at the bottom You're pretty much out of luck of you want double din that plays discs on the older vics without heavily modifying the hvac ducting

what I'd like to know is What is the negative and positive on the wiring. cuz I didn't have the harness. it was all ripped out and just wires everywhere. total mess...
@WJHandyDad7 жыл бұрын
Easiest and safest way is with a multimeter. Find a known ground and connect the multimeter ground wire to it. Then check the wires in your dash for one that has 12v+ with the key off. That will be your "hot" wire. Then turn on the key to the ACC position and see which other wire then has 12v+ on it. That's your accessory power wire. I'll try to look at one of my wire diagrams and post what it says but obviously there is a chance that your car wire colors are different than whatever diagram I have.
@WJHandyDad7 жыл бұрын
OK, I didn't confirm this with my actual vehicle and I would suggest using a multimeter to verify, but I found a wiring diagram that says the "hot" wire is purple with light blue stripe and the accessory power is yellow with black stripe. The ground wires should be black or black with a stripe on them

@WJHandyDad6 жыл бұрын
no problems whatsoever... sounds like you have a loose wire or wires. If it were me, I'd pull the stereo, get it playing and then wiggle the wires and see which one(s) make it shut off, then re-solder them. If the wires are spliced instead of soldered, I'd solder them. Hope that helps!
