That is so cool to see a cylinder cut in half and be able to help others repair and save a vintage saw. Nice video. 👍👍

I just found the exact same thing inside a 2100xp that I just got.....I touched up the imperfection with my rotary tool.....put it back together and it runs like a champ. Compression for days. Thanks for the timely content Tinman!

Just use a little bit of 180 emery cloth to take the sharp edges off. No dramas.

Great video. Next time I get a stuck flywheel, I’m going to try this hack. People are heating things up. Then they use a crayon and melt into a cavity.

Big chamfer follow up with sandpaper and scotch brite to blend and smooth. I think it can be saved
@brucenicov12244 күн бұрын
You can always try to chamfer it with some emory cloth. It may work or it may not. You’ll never know until you try.

I have a pair if old German saws which stopped running, one of them got a burr in the cylinder which scratched it and it got stuck. Now I'm wondering if I can fix the issue with a cylinder hone, or if the saw is scrap now. I can't buy new cylinders for them, because nobody still makes them. Maybe I can just make new cylinders for it from billet, but with a hardened chrome-moly steel sleeve insert...

Don't these have a tonne of compression and no decomp making them really hard to pull over? Maybe taking some off the exhaust roof wouldn't be such a bad thing idk.

Yeah the one in video that I own is pretty thumpy

If the plating is not going to chip any further, couldn't you get away with just lightly smoothing out the edges of the chip without reprofiling the port.

Question I have a 500i that I thought was chipped plating but I can’t feel it someone told me you had mentioned that you can get transfer from the piston is that true and how bad is it to run like that runability seems fine it’s one small small spot
@JohnBrunner-ym6qj5 күн бұрын
Is my best option to try to clean it and new piston

get rid of the gasket and your golden hopefully

He mentioned the squish on his saw was pretty large with a gasket so for sure he can remove it.

I would just put a 288 cylinder on it and do the conversion. No one will know and many don't care because the stickers and tag say 281.
