Is 50 MPG on these hybrids really possible? While rated at 48 city and 45 highway 50 MPG is possible with a few tips. Use the best gas not the cheap low octane. Over inflate the tires maybe 5lbs over. (Your ride will be a little harder and the vehicle will not be as safe in the winter. Always follow manufacture recommendations). Your biggest factor in MPG is your driving. Lots of coasting and slow acceleration will give you the best MPG. The Prius was the first mass produced hybrid vehicle in the world! In 2008 only two models were available. The base on the right and the touring on the left. If you're looking for a gas saver we highly recommend these little cars! People worry about hybrid battery replacement. Prices have come down on these batteries and they do last a long time although opinions and experience differ the general consensuses is they last 8-10 years and 100-150k . The location of the car battery is in the right rear while the hybrid battery is behind the back seat. In 2008 the average gallon of gas was $3.27 George W. Bush was President, unemployment at year end was 7.3% and the big movies of the year were "The Dark Knight" 530 million followed by "Iron Man" 318 million and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Skull" 317 million. For any of you that like to keep your beautiful ride clean like me. Here's the detailing kit that I use:

From what I am looking online the touring trim has 16-inch wheels compared to the 15-inch on the non-touring trim. Also the touring has slightly better suspension and a better spoiler. The top of the line would be a Touring trim with the Package #6 which comes with 9 JBL speakers compared to 6 in the base trims. Just something that was mentioned between these two models

I think they have a base, mid, then touring, because my friend he had a 2008 like that base one, but the one I have has the jbl, better screen, but didn't have the map, and no leather seats, so I'm not sure how many models they had

I just bought a 1 owner 2008 base with 220k for 3900, the market sucks for used cars right now and I needed something efficient so I paid up, Ive put about 2000 miles on it so far and its been great, drives like a low mile car and gets about 43 average but I drive pretty aggressive. Seems like a great car so far.

Don't feel bad , I am confident that your decision was a very good solid move . I just purchased a 2005 Prius with 211k for exactly 3900.00 , leather interior with a few upgrades , drives like a dream , very nice shape , a little paint fade & I am happier than I have been in a while . Averaging 53mpg , I am a slow driver but I am aware of other's , I stay out of their way , having more room between yourself & other driver's is just smart , like your Prius . Never really thought I would be driving a Prius , I absolutely LOVE this vehicle , it is roomy , very comfortable & fun to drive . After driving & owning the Toyota Prius , I will definitely highly recommend this vehicle . Happy driving , enjoy the comfort while saving in a multitude of ways .

Please do your due diligence before posting a video. Both of the vehicles you have are base models. Touring models where manufactured from 2007 through 2009 and are extremely rare representing less than 1% of all Priuses produced. Touring models are equipped with 16 inch wheels and tires from the factory. One sure fire way to tell if you have a touring is to check the tire inflation decal in the driver's door jam. Other than the spare tire, the only size listed will be 195/55-16. All other base model cars will show 185/65-15. Touring models handle much better than base model cars as they are equipped with the European spec suspension package. They have stiffer front springs, softer rear springs, a rear sway bar and less aggressive software programming on the vehicle stability control system which allows for more spirited driving. The Touring models also had a longer rear spoiler than the base cars. The Touring model was available nationwide in any trim level, however all SoCal Touring models came loaded in the top trim package with all available options. My wife and I took delivery of our 07 Touring July 2007. After putting 10% down to order the car in May 2007. At the time, there were no Touring models available. I have a 2008 Touring we bought from it's original owner. Additionally my in-laws have a 2009 Touring that they ordered new. All three cars have been trouble free with only required maintenance performed regularly. All three cars get similar fuel mileage as well. Usually 42 mpg as driven in north county San Diego. One of these days I will post a video with the three cars and compare them to my son's base model 2007 Prius.

@@kerrysmith7598 Thanks for sharing. 195/60x15 is a popular upgrade. In fact, that's the same size tire I have on my son's base model 2007. This size however is not installed from the factory. As I wrote, please check your tire inflation decal on the driver's door jam. Other than the 16 donut spare tire all tire sizes listed will be 15 inch. The Touring models decal only has 16 inch tire size listed. I have verified this with Toyota parts people. There were only 2 tire inflation decals available for 2nd gen cars, base or touring.

I got like 52mpg in the slipstream 250feet behind a freightliner on the highway in a 2005 toyota prius. its a great car and is a good generator for powering my electronics from a 12v 1500watt Xijia cnswipowerd inverter off the 12v battery in the car.

I also managed 89.4 MPG on a 5.2 mile trip (on town roads), but it's quite possible the battery was in a good spot when I started the trip, since the next short trips were 64.1 over 7.5 mi and 59.0 over 6.9 mi respectively. Keep in mind, this truck is EPA-rated 33 highway 42 city, so even my lowest score is insanely high.

I don't average 50 MPG. But can when I go 45 mph. Most of my trips are to dads house. Im in a V and I'm able to go this slow because I avoid peak traffic. Any other time I go with the flow I don't want to piss off a heelot they might shoot at me so I do my best to keep them suckas calm I don't work and I need them to go to work and provide all the crap I use. I trade these pices of paper with dead notables printed on them and they keep me not only alive but comfortable and entertained. I got cable TV now !

I thought it was just me. I like getting cheaper fuel at Delta, but I also noticed that when I get Mobile or Shell I get slightly better gas mileage. I also noticed a slight improvement after I cleaned the hybrid battery fan, mass air flow sensor, and throttle body.
