I totally agree work smarter not harder (longer), i started cherry picking last year and I'm making more money in a small amount of time. I don't want to work long for that same amount. What I started doing after I accept a rider/ or picked them up I stop requests. I found that when you start back accepting rides you see the higher paying rides, you just have to be ready to move quick to accept the ride. Also, I don't accept a ride under $5. When the price of gas went up UBER changed (lowered) our pay scale, so rides to the airport if it's not on the high side like it used to be before the price change I don't accept them. I make more money like that and that's my end goal, not to drive just to drive, i'm out here to make money. Glad someone agrees w/me.

SAME HERE ZM. However, if you succumb to the Behavioural Conditioning (BC) Algorithm, the Wage Discrimination Algorithm, and start accepting the lower offer rides, it has successfully forced you into accepting and self-lowering your hourly rate of pay. I know it's really hard if you don't have other means of employment/savings etc to fall back on. (I really don't either). Sometimes, situations present themselves, forcing us to explore other strategies & options. Until then...Gamification...Play Chess not Checkers per Sergio

I guess if you are in a large city that might work but when you guys become unreliable, or people can't get rides when they need them, or worse yet, can't get back home & become stranded - they will stop using your service and spread the word to others and then you'll make nothing, and Uber and Lyft will fold, unless they start back requiring certain things from drivers.

Cherry-picking is the nature of business, friggin hypocrites... they cherry-pick drivers... they mitigate who and how they drive all the time - truth is... they have no business trying to interfere with driver perogative, none whatsoever. They don't know how much time you have and they don't know what your goals are, it's none of their business - do what you can for the time that you're driving, and just move on for the day. XD no bro the amount you make is the same, it’s more about the area you are in and the time of day you drive. 36 minutes driving pays 18$ 24 mins pays 12 Which equals 30 Short rides take 5 to get them 5 to drive them and average 5 so you end up making 25 to 30 anyway. One long ride for 1 hour will pay 30. It’s all the same unless you get tip surge, promo or other things that change the equation. I mean the less customers you guys take the more the map surges and the more I make when I accept those short fairs. Because fair plus surge for a whole hour you can make 60 if you stay in area but surge changes every 30 minutes so it’s kinda hard to do also it only usually has a 5 mile radius which is small and your taking out of it by longer trips. Your also making closer to 1$ per mile instead of 50cents a mile when you are at lower fares, if you do long trips it’s like 2 mile for 1 $ so yeah. I’m not saying he’s completely wrong but 100% and 1% give you about the same hourly because it’s the same shit. Just avoid mean people, trips into dead zones and trips to far away at the start if you really want to. I help them country folks get home and come into the city though sometimes cause I might be trying to end my run but I need a quick 20 instead of fighting for 3 more passenger ques.

Trust me I have 6.8 years and tons of calculations and trip history to back it up. You make 5x what you spend on gas unless you drive a Prius then you make 10x what you spend on gas but the timeframe is still the same so it’s not that you make more intially it’s that you spend 20$ less to get the same number. Example 40$x5=200$ 20$x10=200$ prius+20

These gig apps are not the same in every city and are not the same for every driver. THEY are cherry picking. I believe that the reality is; each of us has to do what is obviously working. When i tried to multi-app and cherry pick in Ocala, FL AND Gainesville, FL the apps quickly began giving me nothing but non profitable rides. It got so bad that i don't even Doordash anymore because i'm not willing to do all the work it will take to recover my acceptance rate while still risking bad ratings. I think they even have information in the bigger cities about which restaurants are easier/quicker and which ones tend to be problematic and you will even be deprioritized in that way aswell. These channels that are based in LA or PHILLY etc. are not as relevant to the rest of the country as you might hope. Best wishes to all drivers.

Only down side to cherry picking is if you are in a staging area with over 100 other uber x cars because if you reject request because the pay is too small uber will kick to the back of the line so if there are 95 cars ahead of you then you gotta wait another 30 minutes or more before you get another ride request.

You can make $3-$4 per mile taking shorter rides. You may only get $5 or $6 but the drive including to get pickup might be 2-3 miles. IN a busy area you can get lots of back to back rides. Sams or Costco typically has cheapest gas even beating any upside pricing, etc.

Roughly how low was your acceptance rate when you wouldn't get rides for hours?
@brooose1
@brooose1 Жыл бұрын
Work smarter, not harder. Since I started cherry picking, my Lyft and UberX acceptance rates went way down and I typically make anywhere from $25-$35 per hour gross depending on bonuses. With delivery, cherry picking means I drive fewer miles and make more money. It puts fewer miles on the car and it's a lot less stressful. I know UberX is trying out some new scam to go after us Cherry Pickers in some markets where they stop showing ride details after 3 requests and the details don't come back for 30 minutes. That hasn't rolled out in Pittsburgh yet and I am dreading it because Uber throws a lot of lowballs for rideshare on busy nights. Seriously if their response is to withhold information from drivers and punish them for trying to do better, then they'd better go back to the rate card with time and distance for those rides. My response if that happens will be to switch platforms until the 30 minutes times out or just get off of Uber.

@brooose1
@brooose1 Жыл бұрын
@@daphnespanier which is a reason why you should cherry pick. Teach the algorithm your value. Know your worth. I know it sounds cliche but all of the platforms try to manipulate you into accepting the lowest offer. Once you do, the algorithm will keep lowballing you if it thinks you will take it. That’s the algorithmic wage discrimination. You have to power to turn it on its head and stop accepting lowball offers. Unfortunately it looks like Uber is preparing to punish us if we do know our worth.

I make the same shit with 100% acceptance rate the only rides you should decline is if the ride is to far away when where you are to where they are. each ride averages 20 minutes 3 rides an hour, but excess travel or wait time adds to that, Travel time you can control by pick the right areas and using filters and declining rides with high pre trip travel time Wait time: time between pings Time for customer to come out up to 5 minutes, and of course if the filters make you wait longer, Rides going to dead zones, rides far initially, and mean customers and the only ones I decline or cancel and I really don’t even have that often or at all. Btw the more trips you do the more often tips happen, sometimes 2 and 3$ trips tip 5$ so you end up making good and when surge is happening you want the short ones since the pay is the same at the end of an hour for 5 shorts or the 2 longs. it always usually averages 25 but you can make 30 not including tips tolls
@supercyanblue2379
@supercyanblue2379 Жыл бұрын
@@brooose1it has more to do with your location and proximity to the customer. Time of day is also a factor like 3am people aren’t taking short trips it’s probably important. Where as lunch time is going to give you those low fares. If you do nothing but short rides in a single hour you’ll still make like 25 you just think they are bad because you see them in between long fares and the long fare sometimes tips 12$ for a 22$ ride 2-6 can tip 5$ here and there sometimes to. Depends on the person you pick up more then what you do to earn it. If they want to tip then they will and if they don’t then they won’t. A trip taking 36 minutes will often pay 18$ and a trip taking 24 minutes will often pay 12$ so Your hourly will be 30 even if you drive someone 60 miles your only will probably be 30. And if you take short trips where you are getting them within 5 minutes and dropping them off in 5 minutes. 10x5 is 25. And the extra 10 minutes could be 30 but chances are it won’t. Not including tip in those pay examples. My point is average hourly is simple you have food and bad don’t stress instead set a number you want to reach and a couple of hours you want to drive reach the number then go home and immediately sleep for atleast 2 hours then get up and repeat. Come up with times you think will work. You can do 200 all in one sitting you can do 100 sleep then do 100 again after 6 hours of sleep you can do 50 3-4x a day. I can’t tell you my money target because it’s working for me very well and I want to keep it working. once you get the number you are looking for get off, sleep, get on repeat. I spend 3-5 hours at a time working I get off and come back later. I have 3 set shifts to start driving and if I do 2 and miss one that’s fine. It’s a long term thing doesn’t even feel like I’m working to be honest it’s just fun

@@Rational_Driver you didn’t mention the platform your talking about? That’s some insane tips I get those maybe 2 times a day but I do see the short trip tips add up the same way. My gf doesn’t like it when I work to much lol and I always miss 4:30-9am cause I never wake up. I work to get 75 takes 3 hours get off go to sleep Repeat 75 Get off sleep And then I get 225 but I always end up accidentally making alot of extra money I didn’t plan for just trying to filter rides to get home from 55 miles away. Lol I don’t even feel like I’m working. I’m not sure what can beat this but I’ll keep trying to plan ahead. This is stage 2 McDonald’s would be stage 1 just a job you know. I don't know how many other drivers noticed that acceptance rate during the last month of the quarter is what determined if you made Uber Pro. Apparently Uber noticed that drivers like me ignored more rides in February and March but accepted more in April. Got a love note from Uber telling me that starting on May 22nd, my acceptance rate will be based on the last 200 "rides." I put "rides" in quotes since that should have been pings or ride requests. I do around 120 rides a month so this affects me. If you're full time in a busy market, you probably prefer this change. That said, I'm curious if only certain drivers are having this change applied to them.

However, if you are not watching your hourly rate, by taking a number of rides that pay you less per mile for a number of hours for example, you have increased your gas cost for that hour, therefore increased your gross net profit. Together with additional wear/tear on your car, increased mileage etc. It all adds up in the big picture. Think about it this way...if hourly rates are irrelevant, why do RideShare Companies create algorithms specifically designed to control a driver rate of pay per hour? Why do algorithms exist that attempt Behavioural Conditioning? Algorithmic Wage Discrimination? Why do W2 companies advertise their lower paying job opportunities PAY PER HOUR. For Example...you hit a surge...a 0.8 mile trip pays you $27 (I've had them). So, you only drive surges, and rides that pay a min. of $1.50/mile, and/or a direction you need to go in. The 'direction' trips may pay only $1/mile, but you need to go anyway. 'Direction' trips could be to a 2nd job, errands, Dr appt, car service etc. This practice 'WATER'S DOWN' your hourly rate of pay, but is a smart practice if it works out with your timing of ride offers. CAVEAT, if you use 'Direction' trips on a regular basis, perhaps to a 2nd job with set days and hours, the algorithm recognizes an established pattern. It now 'thinks' that a new hourly rate of earnings is becoming acceptable to you, periodically. And will increase offers to you that calculate out to a lower rate of pay. In other words, taking 'Direction' rides, CAN BE AT YOUR PERIL! Your drive time is minimal at all other times. Yes, you may sit around for hours waiting for surge rides, or at least $1.50/mile rides...BUT...your overhead is as low as you can go (gas cost, maintenance, & long term wear/tear on your vehicle). Low Overhead=Higher Profit MOST IMPORTANTLY...If you accept being forced, by the algorithm, to start accepting lower pay per hour at normal drive times/surge times, and you add up all your high paying hours, with low paying hours, you begin to notice that your average hourly pay has begun to drop. This, in turn, forces you to start accepting MORE lower paying rides, which results in a further drop in your hourly rate. As your hourly rate DROP increases, your weekly earnings will be lower too. In addition, you may have spent more in gas, wear/tear on car etc. , because you are driving more. What you accept in pay per hour, sets an algorithmic precedent. The algorithm has learned that you will accept certain lower hourly rates. It then pings you more lower hourly rate offers, because you have taught it, that it is acceptable to you. The lower hourly rates that you have set yourself, will now be offered to you frequently. It's a combination of Behavioural Conditioning and Algorithmic Wage Discrimination. ...And that's why seasoned drivers constantly talk about Hourly Rates. It's directly related to your Gross Net Profit and Net Profit.

It seems that declining the orders like described in this video is resulting in the algorithm not sending me anything at all. I haven't totally figured out the answer, but my experience does go with the $1.00 per mile effect. I go 300 miles. I have $300 gross. When I have long distance rides that are 30 mile's or more. I hope to make a little money on the way back to the city I work in to cover the dead miles coming back. If the original ride is a reserved, XL or Comfort ride. The added price also helps to pay for those dead miles.

Just a few spitball examples: Toyota Prius: $0.10 Toyota Yaris or Corolla: $0.15 Toyota Camry: $0.20 Pick-up truck: $0.40 Jeep Wrangler: $0.60 Diesel truck large: $2.00 It all depends on one's ride. The only upside to get-upside is RSG getting paid to promote them! I found get-upside not worth it. Its a pain, I have to drive farther than to a gas station that I would normally use. Pain, when system does not "auto detect" CC transaction, then you need receipt, of course when the receipt printer is not working... Add the pain of you're a late night driver and there is no cashier on duty to get you a receipt reprint. Add to that pain, (if you do get a receipt) you have to then deal with what is similar to Uber support... We all know how wonderful they are? Their support used to be kinda ok, when these problems happened, BUT that was when it was called "Get Upside" Now it’s just called “upside” Typically a company/app name change usually indicates they were bought out and went cheap on the support. Who remembers Mystro? (good, until they got bought out) The pain of driving further for only a few pennies off, after your first timer NICE discount... Its not like your getting that $. 35 each fill up. REMIND ME, WHY DO I WANT THIS APP AGAIN?

Yeah I just pay for gas shove the receipts in the glove box and forget about it it’s all deductions anyway, how dumb would you be to run out of gas when your job pays you 5x what you spend on gas. Litterally when you put 40 it’s to make 200 That’s the exact calculation for you. Every 2 miles equals 1$ because that includes the miles you don’t have the customer yet. So 400 miles that cost 3.35 or 3.50x 12 is like 39 to 40$ Then you take 400/2 and you get 200$ Which is 5x the 40$ you spent to get the gas. Enjoy the formula The only way to break the formula is get cheaper gas, surge And tips. 36 minutes pays you 18$ and 24 minutes pays you 12$ So it’s 30 5-6 short trips 25-30 an hour each trip taking 10 minutes. 5 to get them 5 to drive them plus wait time to start trip when they come out of there house. Long trips have wait times to sometimes to so that’s just the luck. I get 5$ tips on short trips sometimes to so it balances out, the only time short trips provide advantage is stay in area filter in a 5+ miles area because you get double the money as the fair cost what the surge cost. So that’s possible to get 50 or 60. Airport can do 25 surge plus the 20$ trip so it’s all the same game. No matter how you play it. Know what time to drive what area to be in at what time.

My experience close to Diamond: 4.99 Star Rating. Approx 350 points away from DIAMOND (it pays $450 in my area), Uber began locking me offline from 8am-9am each weekday (peak demand). I would see on the app "Unable to go online, ' 'We're Having Technical Issues.' After 9am it would allow me back online. It started to also happen in peak rush hour in the afternoons. Of course, every area is different and dependent on Supply & Demand of that specific area, as to how often the algorithm can control ride offers. The process was slow and subtle. And I work in a very busy city. Other 'issues' starting occurring as I neared the 1800 points required for Diamond. Such as, seldom being matched on trip radar, tapping to accept a ping request, to then see it disappear, layering of trip radar rides on phone screen which results in having to constantly restart your phone, The process accelerating the closer I got to 1800 points. Less than 250 points away...most rides began to be offered with long pick up, Ride offers were $1 or less a mile Ride offers were slow, although I could see many people standing on the street with phones in hand, obviously looking for their pick up! This process is called Strangulation. I know another driver near Diamond, who works a different area that doesn't have a high supply of drivers. He's about 220 points away . Last night, for the first time, he was 'Unable to Go Online'. The app allowed him back on after around 15 mins. His cancellation rate was 2%, but last night, a ride he had not accepted popped up, which he then cancelled. His cancellation rate went up to 3%. My advise to you...read Veena Dubal's papers on Algorithm Wage Discrimination, The House Always Wins. And research Behavioural Conditioning techniques used with gig workers. You will recognize certain techniques utilized by Uber and Lyft. Being Extra Picky About Rides You Accept: You should ALWAYS be 'picky' about what rides you accept. If you have calculated how much each mile you drive, costs you in gas, you will already know that long distance pick up is not an economical trip to accept unless it's paying a high surge, and that the surge is NOT deducted from the ride $ amount. The reason I mention this, is because many riders have started to see this happen on ride offers. As the RideShare Guys say..."Know Your Worth". (Don't let Uber and Lyft decide it for you) Good Luck
