Hi, your roses look so beautiful 😍.... I had always struggled with growing roses and ended up killing 3 bushes 😢... thank you so much for the tips! I would like to try again and this helps a lot.

Thank you, Im happy that you found this helpful! They can be a bit overwhelming at first! But don't give up just yet, take it slow, start with one plant and I'm sure you will get there ☺️🌹

Thanks for informative video, my azafran booms in august… south of Sweden….

Awesome! Do you keep your bulbs from year to year? I planted mine at the end of August so they are just now starting to bloom.
@annettemartensson45232 ай бұрын
@ I found them hardy and they also grow more and more for every year so not difficult to grow as you could expect. Good luck with yours.👍👩🏻🌾

Aww so sorry to hear that! Same here 🙌, it's finally getting cold so I'm starting to plant all of my bulbs.

@@17m2garden What is your lowest temperature you experimented with the spring bulbs? I ask that because I have zone 6b and I could move them in the staircase , if it is too cold, but what means too cold? Maybe you remember I have some Dahlias from seeds, they were very upset on my balcony, I planted them in front on the block, two died and two are alive. Maybe they have bulbs now. I saw your dahlias were beautiful despite the shade.

@goctalis3064 I currently garden in zone 8 (lowest temp -8C/17.5F) and I don't protect any bulbs. I have gardened in zone 6 before and the biggest risk is always with tulips, so these could use protection. Crocuses, daffodils and alliums are quite hardy, many to zones 3-4 in the ground so are usually OK in zone 6 in pots. You can check out my video on overwintering potted plants, you may find some of the tips in there useful, such as wrapping pots in bubble wrap etc!

@@17m2garden Thank you, I only have daffodils and muscari and 2 hyachinthum . I covered them already, a little I will watch the video again. 🙏

I'm glad it worked out ! I'm really tempted by this one but I wonder how she does in 9 hours sunlight in my zone. I know they say ok for full sun too for this one but I also know some of DA roses do better in part shade when in high zones... Sawfly larvae can do a mess quite quickly but it's easy to check each time you go and see/smell/take a pic/deadhead your roses and then I just give them to the birds because usually I don't see them checking my roses 😅

Btw thanks for the reminder to train it horizontally! I completely forgot about this 🙃 I understand your hesitation! Sometimes those that do well in partial shade, don't do so well in full sun in high heat climates and summers here can be very harsh indeed! Maybe try growing it in a pot and see how it does? If it passes the test you could transfer it directly in the ground and if not perhaps you can find it a bit more shady spot in your garden?

Hi, Dominika! My balcony rose gets only 2 hours of sun and it had 2 blooms this summer. I'm so happy, because it's only its first year. But I'm not quite sure if I should water it during the winter. It's 4°C outside, and I'm afraid the rose will freeze.

Oh, and my rose is a Claire Austin ❤
@17m2garden2 ай бұрын
Hi Krisztina! That's really awesome to hear that it bloomed for you with as little as 2h of sun! They will defoliate and go fully dormant so you don't need to water it in the winter. You can wrap the pot in bubble wrap to prevent the soil from freezing and add a nice layer of mulch on top of soil, this should be enough 😊🌹

This was a very opportune video for me as I decided this fall to pot some bare-rooted roses (I went for a combination of Kordes and David Austin) in my south-facing balcony. I'll follow all your advice! I planted them in soil labelled specially for roses and was planning to do the same with rose-related fertilizer, but I already have the Plagron fertilizers (bought them after I saw a couple of your videos ☺) would they be OK or a fertilizer directly assigned for roses would be more optimal?
@17m2garden2 ай бұрын
That's great to hear! Which varieties did you choose 😍? If you grow a lot of roses, it might make sense to buy a good quality fertilizer specifically for them. Personally, I only use Alga Grow and Bloom. They contain high levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, but also trace elements like magnesium, iron and zinc! So they provide everything any plant needs. I use them both indoors and outdoors, in my own garden and in other gardens I take care of (the rose I show at 2:14 in the video was also fertilized exclusively with Alga Bloom 🌸).

@@17m2garden Thanks for your advice, I'll follow along. I was also very happy all last summer with Plagron Bloom. Regarding the rose varieties I chose, with the Kordes roses, I went with Herzogin Christiana, Freifrau Caroline, and Novalis, which has no scent but an amazing lavender colour. With the David Austin roses, I chose Emily Bronte and Princess Alexandra of Kent. I also wanted a couple of historical roses , so I got the Chinese Viridiflora rose (because who doesn't want an all green rose, eh?) and a Rose de Resht. Interesting note, as I was reading people's opinions online about Rose de Resht, many noted that since they grow their Rose de Resht in shade or part-shade the blooms seem to last a lot longer than the ones growing in full sun. So, maybe Rose de Resht is meant for our balconies? 🙏🙏🙏🙏 If I see that roses do well in my balcony and I can still fit a couple of more, David Austin's Eustacia Vye will be my next pick or sth like Koko Loco with its unusual café latte colour...

I planted 8 rose bushes, in containers, this past spring & struggled with black spot all season. It’s fairly typical in my growing zone/area as I’ve learned. We get a lot of rain all year round. I live in western Washington. I had to defoliate all my rose bushes. I’m not sure how to prevent it from happening again in spring.
