The new Zealand one, the haka, is actually a war dance that the Maori would preform to scare their enemies. The reason I know this is because I'm moari. I've been waiting so long for him to mention new Zealand.
@XxMeYouTornxX
@XxMeYouTornxX 2 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify for non-Māori/NZers wanting to know more, this is one haka out of many we have, it’s called Ka Mate and was created by the iwi (tribe) Ngāti Toa in the 1800s, celebrating life over death. It’s our most well known one. There’s a lot of different types of haka actually, not just in that they’re for different reasons but they’re performed differently as well (eg with/without jumping, with/without weapons, etc). Traditionally we would perform a haka in preparation for battle, to welcome guests, to acknowledge special achievements, at funerals and weddings. Both men and women would perform (though doing different movements usually, and whether women can join is a little debated among iwi) and kids. Now we perform haka at sport events like the All Blacks, mostly it’s a sign of respect and to hype everyone up. We also have kapa haka which is like groups for people to go and perform waiata (songs) and haka locally. And there’s some pretty big competitions for it.

For the Irish one, you said you heard violin, which is correct of course! But here, when played in ‘trad music’ (traditional), it’s called a fiddle - same instrument but played differently for the genre so it’s given a different name. Just some insider knowledge for you🤣 Also, Happy birthday Joel!

@@inugi Yeah growing up I also assumed they were completely different but similar instruments, lol! But yeah, same instrument, just different ways of playing. Well, for the most part. Technically ‘fiddle’ is just a different name for a violin (informally) but typically if the word fiddle is used it is in association with Irish folk music - but can be other forms of music too ☺️

6:40 the Iraqi singer Beshar covered an amazing, old, hertige and really authentic song that is called "Ya naba'at Al Rayhan"(O spring of basil) by Salima Morad who was born in 1900, this song grows a legacy to our very day in the modern generations. I recognized the Native American music right away! I love listening to it. I also love the featured artist for it. Charles Littleleaf is from Oregon, where I’m from! So extra cool points for that!

lmao im from new zealand and so I obviously immediately recognised the haka but the reactions of the guys were so funny. Also augusts pronunciation of Maori wasn't tooooo bad but definitely a lil funny, but he tried his best still so is fine!

I’m kindof annoyed that you didn’t actually use any of the many many beautiful Māori waiata(songs), but instead did a haka. Although it is always a fun surprise to see New Zealand in a video :)
